WELCOME | District Governor Howdy KIWIN’S,
WELCOME
It has been a long journey through this mighty KIWIN’S galaxy. This expedition has been invaded by all sorts of aliens and here we are, close to landing at our final destination. All kinds of troublesome asteroids have been launched in the 2021-2022 term. Zooweemama, we have had enough of new surges and changing COVID protocols!! I think Mercury was in retrograde this entire term but even still, the stars aligned for us to finish in one piece (and also with many achievements)! I like to think we had a term with all types of stellar experiences, even without an entirely in-person term. I am eternally grateful for all the memories and opportunities from KIWIN’S. My camera has captured it all, from pictures of a major throwback like Beach Palooza to Zoom screenshots of Virtual Awake-a-Thon. In my future years at college, I promise to continue repping KIWIN’S merch by wearing them as pajamas to bed. In exchange, I ask you all to promise to continue to foster and grow KIWIN’S by participating in service events and DCMs. Be a shining star this weekend because KIWIN’S revolves around Planet YOU! We appreciate what you do to make the world a better place, so celebrate the end of the term and the memories made. A wise shaman known as Doja Cat has once told me, “Get into it yuh”. Treat KIWIN’S with respect, because this organization holds a soft spot in my heart. Good luck and godspeed to my future leaders. Catch y’all around, partners. Signing off,

WELCOME | District Convention Chair THE TIME IS HERE, KIWIS! I’m Kristin Gascon, the District Convention Chair, and I am over the moon to welcome you to our 2022 District Convention: Service Written in the Stars. It’s been a rocky flight to get to this final destination of our term, but this weekend is a celebration TO YOU! DCON serves as a weekend of recognition for all of your hard work, service, and dedication to KIWIN’S. Therefore, I challenge you to take in every moment of the convention- cheer your heart out for spirit battles, absorb all the amazing workshops we offer, and meet someone new! After enduring a year of asteroids and hurdles to overcome, you should be incredibly proud of yourself for your infinite strength and determination. As my senior year is coming to an end, I’ve grown immense appreciation and love for many in this organization. Thank you to my stellar DCON Planning Committee who has survived my sarcastic jokes this year. And thank you to my lucky stars for giving me the best advisors, Mr. Carlos and Mr. & Mrs. Ventura. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to make this inperson DCON a blast for you all! Last but not least, thank YOU! This convention wouldn’t be possible without your commitment and enthusiasm to continue serving our community. I am beyond grateful to be a part of our Ohana, and I know KIWIN’S will be in good hands. Congratulations for making this term out-of-this-world! It was an honor to be your DCON Chair. To infinity and beyond, kiwinauts! Yours in Service,
Kristin Gascon KIWIN’S District Convention Chair 2021-2022

WELCOME | District Secretary HAPPY DCON, KIWIN’S!
WELCOME
I hope you all enjoy this weekend full of celebration, service, and spirit. This District Convention not only marks the culmination of the 2021-2022 term but also represents the celebration of all your dedication, perseverance, and resilience to this great organization. As we all navigated COVID-19 and adjusted in the past year, I want to thank you for all you have done. We would not be here this weekend without you! You have worked incredibly hard for the past 12 months to bring your clubs, divisions, and our District back together. All of the hours you put in making dog toys, cleaning up parks, beaches, and highways, writing cards for your advisors, and working together in service is what truly defines KIWIN’S as an Ohana. I applaud you. Congratulations for getting through the last year! I am so so proud of you, and am incredibly honored to have served as your District Secretary during this past year of your KIWIN’S experience. Yours in service and spirit,
Sophie Huynh KIWIN’S Secretary 2021-2022

WELCOME | District Treasurer Hello Everyone! I'm Cynthia Bui, the District Treasurer, and I am so happy to welcome you to the 2022 District Convention. After 2 years, we finally have an inperson DCON, and I'm so excited to see everyone's spirit and energy this weekend. For many of us, even me, this is your first in-person DCON and I hope that you make lasting memories that stay with you during this jampacked weekend. Kristin and the DCON committee have worked incredibly hard to make this event happen, so please enjoy your time. DCON is a time for leadership, coming together, and celebration. Through the multiple workshops teaching leadership skills and our Keynote Speaker, I hope that you all can learn how to continue serving your club and community because even after one leaves KIWIN'S, the integral skills of leading and giving back to others will remain and guide you through your life. This is also an amazing opportunity to meet with other members from different divisions and schools, because when else will you get the opportunity to meet other passionate students from all over California at a convention? Lastly, DCON is the celebration of ending the term, so give yourself a pat on the back, learn from your mistakes, and keep pushing on. This term has had its highs and lows, but I am incredibly grateful for KIWIN'S community around me for inspiring me and pushing me to continue serving. What makes KIWIN'S special are the members and the bonds we make with one another, and I hope that you can look at the people around you and think similarly. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my KIWIN'S journey and for everything I have learned from this organization. I cannot wait to see everyone's 3D faces and I hope you have an out-of-this-world experience!
Yours in service,
Cynthia Bui KIWIN’S Treasurer 2021-2022

ALOE Kiwis! We’ve arrived. Hi, I’m Ronald, the guy who draws all the bears. This past term sure was a turbulent flight to planet DCON but we finally find ourselves here: at the last event of the year. I understand how hard it was to get back into the groove of things after isolation so I’d like to commemorate our resilience and strength to carry on the legacy of our loving Ohana. Despite all the hurdles that COVID has set for us, we are finally at the finish line, guys. Although all of our experiences with KIWIN’S are unique, I’d like to recognize that we all share one thing – our devotion to our Ohana. Although we are all different stars in this galaxy, our constellations align. My heart is warmed by the unconditional support you show on social media, the laughs you shared with someone you’ve never met before, and the memories you and I’ve made these past years and will continue to cherish for infinity and beyond. You’ve heard it before, but I’d like to reiterate that change is good. Trust in the process and more importantly trust in yourself. You have the ability to shape your future as a student and a leader. Keep on your path of greatness, and you will travel lightyears toward your end goal. Remember, we are gathered here to celebrate YOU. You shine brighter than any star you’ve ever seen in the night sky – don’t you forget that. Relish your high school years; once you get to senior year, they seem to go by faster than the speed of light. It was an honor to have been your editor and I thank you for your service. Welcome to DCON. Blasting off again,
Ronald Lu KIWIN’S Editor 2021-2022 8
WELCOME | International Trustee Hello CNH KIWIN’S! Congratulations on successfully completing another incredible year of service! It has been a pleasure to see you develop more as servant leaders in this amazing organization. The International Board is working on great projects and initiatives! The Global Leadership Certificate is about to launch for you all to enjoy. Get ready to learn about resilience, networking, selfawareness, critical thinking, volunteerism, and so much more! Additionally, we have two new Partners – Collegewise and Schoolhouse. Both organizations focus on education and offer unique opportunities for students to engage with others through academics. ICON 2022 is from July 6th through 10th in Washington D.C.! To reflect our historic location, this year's theme is 'Monumental Service'. Attend the international convention to network with others from across the world, listen to fantastic speakers (Sal Khan will be one keynote!), and elect next year’s International Board. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime event, and D.C. is a gorgeous city to explore! Check out the KCI website for more information! Last but certainly not least, thank you to the 2021-222 District Board and Governor Serena for your sacrifices, planning, attention to detail, and passion this year. The district level is not for the faint of heart, and you’ve proven over and over again how capable and outstanding you each are. Your district was absolutely lucky to have your leadership and guidance! Enjoy retirement! Continue to contact me and reach out with any comments or questions! Good luck this coming service year! Yours in Service and Friendship,
Cheyenne Stewart Key Club International Trustee 2021-2022

WELCOME | District Administrator Dear KIWIN’S, advisors, and parent.
WELCOME
Isn’t this an exciting moment? After three long years, we all are back together for another inperson KIWIN’S District Convention. For most this is a first — an opportunity to attend an educational conference. For many this is another first — a first time away from home. For a few there’s one more first — a first time staying at a hotel. Whatever your prior experience, whatever your KIWIN’S journey has been, this weekend is for you. It is for your to set the future of KIWIN’S. It is for you to learn all you can about leadership — lessons you can carry for the rest of your life. It is for you to make new friends throughout California. Above all, it is for you to have fun. Enjoy the weekend. Revel in the experience. With all the fun and all the joy comes responsibility though. Whether you are the club president and a senior soon to enter college or a freshman just starting your KIWIN’S journey, your club needs your help. Talk with other club members to do your best to have a representative in every workshop. I know some clubs cannot do this. If your club cannot, select the most important topics. Share what you learn with the board and general members. This means listening actively, taking notes, asking questions. In closing, I want to thank all the advisors, chaperones, and parents for giving up their weekend, attending the workshops and general sessions, and judging awards. Some are having their first experience with KIWIN’S. Others have been with us for years. They’re give their time, help with funding, and provide advice. Without the adults, our wonderful students could not be here. Students, I hope you will meet some of the adults and thank them personally. I’d also like acknowledge the KIWIN’S District Board. They have worked tirelessly throughout the year to bring great programs to students in all areas of the state, never knowing if they would have to switch from in-person to virtual activities. And they have worked tirelessly to ensure that DCON will be marvelous. Enjoy the convention!

WELCOME | CNH Kiwanis Governor Welcome to the 46th KIWIN’S district convention. Isn’t it great that we can finally get together to celebrate not only this great organization, but all the great work you have done over the past two years? I know that the last two years have been challenging, but you thrived beyond our wildest expectation. Kiwanis is very proud of what you have accomplished. My name is Margo Dutton, and I proudly serve as the 2021-2022 CNH Kiwanis District Governor. I have a passion for all the Service Leadership Program members, but particularly KIWIN’S. I have had the honor of serving on the Kiwanis Committee for over 20 years, including 7 years as your District Administrator. I have learned how truly amazing you are. I personally welcome you to this Convention, and hope you feel comfortable introducing yourself to me. When I began this journey a year ago with your District Board, I told them that you – all KIWIN’S member are a valuable part of my team. My motto for the year is “Together We Can…” Together Kiwanis members along with their KIWIN’S members can do anything they can dream. When we work together there isn’t anything we can’t do. WELCOME | CNH Kiwanis Gov. Elect Aloha my KIWIN’S Ohana! It’s exciting to welcome you to this 46th annual KIWIN’S District Convention here in Mission Valley San Diego. I’m so excited to celebrate all of your amazing accomplishments over the past year. You have worked so hard doing amazing projects across the KIWIN’S district. Performing hundreds of service hours in your individual communities, spending numerous hours on zoom to strategize and plan, and fundraising thousands of dollars to ensure that the pediatric trauma program could continue to do stellar work. I am so proud of each and everyone of you. You are all superstars in my book.
WELCOME
If you don’t already know, I am Valarie Brown-Klingelhoefer. You can call me Doc Val when you see me in the hallways. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as you 2022-2023 Cal-Nev-Ha District Governor. I am inspired by the KIWIN’S motto — One family. One mission. One word… KIWIN’S—a derivation of Anokiwin which means “people, men and women, working together in service”. That’s what being a part of the Kiwanis ohana is all about. While the your major focus as a member of the community is —“Children: Their future, our focus” I want you to know that your future and the future of KIWIN’S is my focus. I have made some key appointments to grow your adult leadership team to ensure that you have the best team possible to support you and your mission over the next year. The CNH district administrative team is ready and waiting to help you reach for the stars. I look forward to standing side-by-side with you, your new Governor, and your amazing district administrative team over the next year as we focus in on growing KIWIN’S across the CAL-NEV-HA district. To that end I pledge to sponsor the first two KIWIN’S clubs in the Kiwanis Division 43–my home division.. Who knows this might be the beginning of a new division. May I suggest “Amethyst”? I’m partial to purple. Enjoy every opportunity to network, learn and make new friends this weekend. Service is truly written in the stars because of you. One of my sheroes, Harriet Tubman once said “Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars, to change the world.” Have a memorable convention.
Service with a SMILE,

WELCOME
Dear CNH KIWIN'S,
Congrats on a beautiful year of service! As a KIWIN'S alumni (CNH KIWIN'S Governor in 2011-2012 and Goldstone LTG in 2010-2011), I am deeply proud to call all of you family. I am humbled to witness how much love, service, and energy you all continue to exude in spite of everything that we are going through as a society. Y'all are the leaders we have so deeply been hoping for! Know that you are part of an incredible legacy of visionaries, changemakers, and world shakers as part of the KIWIN'S Ohana. I can't wait to celebrate with you all in San Diego. Continue to dream big and demand change. Our communities rely on your leadership to create and vision a world of justice, hope, and peace.
"If your success is defined as being well adjusted to injustice and well adapted to indifference then we don't want successful leaders. We want great leaders – who love the people enough and respect the people enough to be unsought, unbound, unafraid and unintimidated to tell the truth.” -Dr. Cornel West
In gratitude, Bernie

FOR CNH KIWIN’S DISTRICT BULLETIN EDITOR
Hello grizzlies, my name is Ava Baker! I discovered my love and passion for graphic design + service to my community through this amazing ohana, and I am so glad that I’ve become apart of it. As a child, I’ve always been drawn to art, but I never even thought about becoming a graphic designer until KIWIN’S. It has unlocked a new talent online versus on paper, and I have been able to make so many friends and be of service to them and our community, which I am so grateful for.

more friends outside of my home division. Meeting new people and learning about them is important for any leader, and I want to be a role model in that aspect.
WN
a bigger leadership position than club board. I know I have the potential to further help in promoting our club. I’m capable of taking on such a position and executing it.
E
able to contribute in promoting KIWIN’S. The reason why I have such a love for contributing my time to service is from this club, so I want to help others find their passions for KIWIN’S too. 63

Encourage and maximize attendance at District Fundraisers. I want to motivate our amazing members to attend these events by introducing unique incentives such as limited edition prizes and collaborations with companies that offer discounts and rewards. Overall, I aspire to strengthen our communication methods to reach out to members across the district about these events!
Provide resources at district and division levels for sponsorship searches. Our sponsors are amazing, and we truly appreciate them for their generosity! They help us fund events and move forward as a district! Seeking sponsors may be challenging, so I plan to create detailed guides to aid officers on finding patrons to support us!
Outline MUC procedures and build upon existing resources. The process of paying dues and making sure all members’ information has been logged into the MUC may be difficult sometimes! To combat this issue, I aim to hold frequent seminars to help Treasurers identify problems and further develop MUC resources that can be utilized by all officers of the club board!
Highlight strategies Treasurers can implement for successful fundraisers. My goal for this term is to make sure every club within our district holds at least two fundraisers by working closely with Treasurers and providing assistance on the process of fundraising and engagement.

Hi Kiwis! My name is Ivan Tran, and I am running to be YOUR next District Treasurer. I joined KIWIN’S during my freshman year in search of a place to devote my passion for community service. After joining, I was able to attend my first in-person Fall Rally, which inspired me to stay with our ohana and become as involved as I could! I was given the opportunities to serve at a club division, district, and international level throughout my KIWIN’S journey, and it would be my honor to serve the CNH KIWIN’S district once more. Let’s have another great year together!
