GOVERNOR’S GREETING Hello KIWIN’S, It’s December. My favorite time of the year. I can hear the distinct sounds of Mariah Carey whistle notes and Justin Bieber drumming even as I write this. USPS workers are working feverishly to get the onslaught of Black Friday online orders to their recipients and Santa letters to the north pole. You know what else they’re holding? Your dues! Clubs are steadily mailing their payments to International. We started at 0 members at the start of November and now we’re up to over 700 members. I’m honestly so amazed by what our district is able to accomplish during a literal pandemic. My theory is that 2020 had to give us this drawback, because they knew we would be too powerful without it. As Dr. Suess once said, “Well, in KIWIN’S they say that the district’s small ohana grew three sizes that day.” I may be paraphrasing a bit though. Stay safe and hydrated, Angela Batoon District Governor

TRUSTEE’S NOTE Hey CNH KIWIN’S, I’m Emma Brainard and I’m serving as YOUR International Trustee! Along with CNH KIWIN’S I also serve the Capital District and New Jersey District! I love our Sistrict (sister districts) and I’m really excited about the projects we’re working on right now! I recently launched a Sistrict PenPal System, which is a way for Key Clubbers from your district to meet with Key Clubbers from the sister districts! The way this works is there’s an application on the Sistrict Instagram (@newcapikiwins) for all members to fill out! The application will close January 1! Once I have all submissions, I’ll match members based off of their interests and introduce them! You can use this penpal for service ideas, collaboration on projects, and to make another friend across the globe! Another project to be on the lookout for is the “My Key Club Moment” campaign.. A social media campaign where Key Clubbers can share their Key Club moment and be spotlighted on the sistrict instagram! More information will be released on this in the following weeks! The last big project to be watching for is sistrict merchandise! The editors of each district are working on some really cool merch for each of you and we’re hoping to have that released mid January! To stay up to date with everything going on, make sure to follow @newcapikiwins on instagram! There you can find updates, newsletters, and more! Always feel free to reach out to me with questions, comments, concerns, or anything else! Keep serving and Happy Holidays! Emma Brainard International Trustee

KEY CLUB INT. PARTNERSHIPS KCI MAJOR EMPHASIS In 1946, the organization was challenged to build a program to bring together all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact. This program is still followed today through the Major Emphasis: Children: Their Future, Our Focus. By working with Key Club International’s partner organizations, Key Clubs serve children by aiding others committed to serving children. LEARN MORE keyclub.org/about/partnership

Through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, we are raise money to support the Eliminate Project, a joint effort of Kiwanis International and UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from tetanus. That short lifetime is marked by pain -- with an extreme sensitivty to light, sound, or contact that prevents even a mother’s touch. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Thanks to Key Clubs, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, and the Kiwanis family, the Eliminate Project has raised more than $82 million USD since 2010 to help vaccinate women and babies against this deadly disease. This year, the program moved online. Members completed different activities and watched educational videos to earn Trick-or-Treat Coins that add up to real-life earnings.
