IT’S ME, THE

EDITOR Aye Kiwis! The first seasonal newsletter of the term is here! My name is Ronald Lu, and I’m so excited to get to serve as your District Bulletin Editor this term! I hope you enjoy the updates and highlights from April to now, July. As things start to look up from the quarantine days, there are so many things to look forward to! Remember to get plenty of rest and stay hydrated (I should take my own advice D;). Get that sleep in before we go back to school :’D.

Bear-ly stayin’ awake, Ronald Lu (he/him) District Bulletin Editor 2021-2022

NEW TO KIWIN’S?

Looking forward to seeing you at upcoming events – we’ll have a BLAST together <3. Peace and Love, District Board

SERENA YANG

MEET YOUR GOVERNOR 6

Howdy CNH KIWIN’S,

It has been a while since the District Convention! Believe it or not, we are a fourth of the way through the term. As summer is winding down, I hope you all had a ‘hot Kiwi summer’. Good job to everyone who turned in their report forms and continued the spirit of service throughout the months. The start of school is right around the corner (already present for some of us). Though I understand the dreaded feeling of studying and doing homework at 2 AM, I am excited to see what you all bring for Club Rush season! Transitioning back to in-person is no easy task, but the passion and excitement we all have to serve will guarantee success. The District Board has been working hard these past months to provide as much support as possible for your clubs to continue to thrive and grow. I am honored to serve as your Governor for the 2021-2022 term and I am extremely proud of each member who makes up this district. I cannot wait to meet you all throughout this term. Saddle up CNH KIWIN’S, we are going to have a wild term and exceed our goals!

Yours truly, Serena Yang (she/her) District Governor 2021-2022

ANGELA’S

ADIOS Hello and goodbye, I have crawled out of my hole called retirement for one last time to say farewell. For the past few weeks, I have been listening to Olivia Rodrigo on repeat thinking about--not a significant other--but KIWIN'S, because it honestly felt like a break-up after DCON was over. The 2020-2021 term felt like a long-distance relationship that ended with a call and a lack of closure. But during my Sour album-listening intermissions, I got the time to reflect on all the growth I gained from my years with this organization. I can't thank KIWIN'S enough for the people and opportunities it surrounded me with. Now we're growing in separate ways and that's good. KIWIN'S got a new board and I got new bangs. You see, growth? Unlike Olivia Rodrigo, I will sincerely say good for you! KIWIN'S looks happy and healthy and doin' great out there without me. It's not a surprise that y'all have been killing it.

To the new district board, I hope you guys get to hold hands at DCON and sing kumbaya and have the best retirement in the world because, from the work y'all have been putting out, you deserve it already. If you miss me, feel free to contact me through the KIWIN'S Alumni Network ;).

Stay Hydrated, Angela Batoon Immediate Past District Governor

PARTNERSHIPS KCI’S MAJOR EMPHASIS In 1946, Key Club International (KCI) was challenged to build a program where all Key Clubs and members focus their energies toward making an international impact together. It is still followed today through the Major Emphases: Children, Their Future, Our Focus. By working with KCI’s partner organizations, Key Clubs serve children by aiding those committed to serving children.

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT Through The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF partner to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) – a deadly but highly preventable disease that steals the lives of nearly 31,000 innocent babies and many mothers annually. So far, we have helped eliminate MNT in over 27 countries worldwide!

ELIMINATE WEEK CNH KIWIN’S participated in Eliminate Week from May 10-14 to raise funds and awareness for The Eliminate Project. Clubs could not participate in-person this year, but despite limitations, we still promoted the cause our own way (see page 27)!

INTERNATIONAL

TRUSTEE’S INTRO Hello CNH KIWIN’S! My name is Cheyenne Stewart, and I am ecstatic to serve as your new International Trustee! I’m originally from the small European country Hungary, and I now live in Terre Haute, Indiana. This is my fourth and final (sadly) year in Key Club, and this trustee year is the cherry on top of all of the service I’ve been a part of in high school!

Our sistrict (sister districts) are Michigan, Eastern Canada, and of course, CNH KIWIN’S! My role as trustee is to support each governor to the level they need, complete lasting work on international committees, connect with district and international board members, and serve as the liaison between you and the international level. I’m not just here for the Governors; I’m here for any and all of you through both Key Club topics and life events!

Many people ask, "Do you make keys in Key Club?" Well, not quite. We make keys from our experiences that open countless doors for our futures, and we ARE the key people who have servant hearts in our communities that initiate change now and will initiate change in the future to make our world a better place! Remember, YOU are the reason Key Club is this incredible. Without your tireless work, meeting prep, newsletter creations, attendance, lots of emails, and volunteerism, Key Club would not be alive and would not THRIVE the way it does today! Thank you so much for welcoming me into your Key Club family. I cannot WAIT to travel to your meetings, events, and conventions and to see you even through Zoom! Good luck for the rest of your terms! Don’t hesitate to contact me at any time or day because I’d love to get to know as many of you as possible!

Yours in Friendship and Service, Cheyenne Stewart (she/her) International Trustee 2021-2022 cheyenne.stewart@keyclub.org

DISTRICT UPDATES

MAY BOARD TRAINING CONFERENCE The CNH KIWIN’S District Board came together from all across California for our very first in-person board training in two years. At May Board Training Conference, we educated ourselves and strategically planned our term as we transition in person. The LTGs and Appointed Board bonded over many cups of ramen and doing the chicken dance! 20

We have been virtual for so long and I am so happy to see real human bodies instead of Zoom squares. All District Board members came out of May Board Training, more enthusiastic and passionate to rejuvenate our clubs! LET’S DO THIS!! By Serena Yang, DGov

KI-WI BARE BEARS

SUMMER BOARD TRAINING CONFERENCE We reconvened again at the District Office to discuss plans for the new term as we approach Club Rush Season and give updates on individual progress as well as District Committees. This time, we held the Summer Olympics where District Board split up into teams and bonded over water games (ironically during the real 2020 Summer Olympics)!

The District Board typically meets together for four Training Conferences. One in April, one in May, one during the summer, and the last one taking place during the winter.*

Every year, the district curates goals cumulated from clubs in each division.

We focus on the amount of service each member dedicates, our total dues-paid membership, funds raised for PTP and UNICEF, and attendance for our district events. From the uncertainty of returning to back in-person from a year of online service, we have adjusted our goals accordingly. We are so excited to see what the term has in store for this district!

This term, a major focus will be finding sponsorships to help run district events like Fall Rally, Awake-A-thon, and DCON! Through sponsorships, we’ll spend less on expenses and donate more to our charities, PTP and UNICEF. Sponsors can be found anywhere – at a local restaurant, your nearby Costco, and even your local Kiwanis club! To learn about ways to help, contact Cynthia or your Lt.G!

OFFICERS Learn to lead through divisional OFFICER TRAINING Sophie Huynh | District Secretary dsec@kiwins.org

Officer Training Conferences (OTC) are an opportunity for new, potential, and returning officers, and members to learn and develop leadership skills that are key to KIWIN’S! It is a divisional event that includes workshops that will train officers in everything they need to know before the school year starts. This training is a great way to learn more about club officer positions and CNH KIWIN’S Key Club. All officers and members are highly encouraged to attend to learn how to take advantage of all of the opportunities that KIWIN’S has to offer and prepare for a great term of service!
