A LETTER FROM YOUR DCON CHAIR Hello KIWINNERS!! This term is zooming by and I hope you are already thinking about DCON 2019, CNH KIWIN’S Volume 43: Service Saves the Day! Our 43rd District Convention will be held at the Woodland Hills Marriott from April 5 to 7, 2019. DCON will yet again be held in Southern California, so I hope those of you in NorCal enjoy the road trip!Costs for DCON, like transportation, can get very expensive, especially for the Northern divisions. I hope this manual can provide great ways to promote and fundraise that each of you can learn from and bring back to your home clubs! It is never too early to start fundraising, so make sure to use this manual throughout the term to ensure a successful District Convention. Together, we can reach our District goals and I am excited to see you all there! In the Spirit of Service, Jenna Nguyen Convention Chair 2018-2019

MONTHLY PLANNING SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER - Contact your local Kiwanis Club - Many Kiwanis Clubs will set aside money to help with the cost of DCON, so talk to them ASAP before they set their budget - Begin Fundraising - IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START FUNDRAISING!!! Fundraise to help lower the cost of DCON so that more members can attend - Introduce DCON at club rush - DCON is a good way to attract members to join the club! - Encourage all members to pay their dues - Being a dues-paid member comes with a lot of benefits, as well as allows your member to go to Fall Rally, DCON, and more!
NOVEMBER - Promote DCON during CNH KIWIN’S Key Club week - Encourage all members to attend Fall Rally! Fall Rally is one of the first events for new members to meet others from different divisions. It’s a great way to hype up the new term and gets members excited for more District events. - Get members involved in DCON Awards - Introduce the Talent Show, Oratorical, and Essay Contests to members and encourage them to get involved - Also encourage them to get involved in the Backdrop, T-Shirt, and Patriotic Song contest, or even lead a workshop!
DECEMBER - JANUARY - Promote DCON at general meetings - The Fall Rally hype is still going and you can use it to get members excited for DCON! Have previous attendees talk about their own experience and show old DCON videos! - Plan an informational meeting specifically focused on DCON - Show talent show videos, the Call to Convention video, pictures and more! - Allow members to ask questions and learn about what goes on during the Convention. - Begin registering your members for DCON - The earlier you register, the easier it will be for you later on!

INNOVATIVE IDEAS!
Have members commit to DCON from the very beginning of the year by having them pay monthly installments that splits the cost into smaller amounts.
Devise a tier system to encourage members to volunteer as well as go to DCON. For example, when each tier is reached, $10 will be subtracted from the DCON cost.
Establish a service-hours and fundraiser participation quota for eligibility to attend DCON and Fall Rally. This will enable more active members and raise money toward lowering the cost for DCON.
Create a DCON committee, or appoint a club DCON chair, in charge of promoting and preparing your club for DCON.
