EDITOR’S NOTE Yo Grizzlies! WOO, first newsletter! I hope you’re taking care of yourself and getting healthy amounts of sun and sleep. I’m extremely honored and excited to be serving as your District Bulletin Editor for the term. Enjoy the highlights from April to July in this summer newsletter! Hope you liked Kiwi’s fit on the cover. ;) Let’s play Minecraft sometime, Jaylynn Cao District Bulletin Editor

GOVERNOR’S GREETING Hello KIWIN’S, Some time has passed since District Convention. We are already half way through the year and a fourth way through the term. I can safely say that this is the most interesting start to a term that anybody has ever experienced. Who else can say they went through a global pandemic, a movement, and a resurgence of an animated show from the 2000s all while wondering which side of TikTok they are on. Since Avatar the Last Airbender is trending, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes that best responds to what is going on right now: “That’s rough buddy.” I’m just kidding. It’s actually something Uncle Iroh said: “You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place.” Don’t beat yourself up if you feel unmotivated during quarantine. All your feelings are valid and are probably shared by others as well. The District Board is doing everything we can to support you guys and give you the same opportunities as past years regardless of the world’s current situation. There are still going to be events, service, fundraising, awards, and scholarships in the near future. I promise you that you will thrive this term. Stay safe and hydrated, Angela Batoon District Governor

EMMA’S FAREWELL Hello KIWINNERS! After one incredible year of laughs, tears, and unforgettable memories, the term finally came to an end. Though it is definitely bittersweet, I feel nothing but love and happiness as I write my last newsletter segment. To the members I’ve had the privilege of calling my ohana, thank you for cheering, serving and fundraising to your hearts’ content. We achieved so many goals, surpassed all expectations, and even then always aimed for more. While we faced our fair share of challenges, it has taught me that our members’ passion and determination to serve cannot and will not be stopped. I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish alongside Angela, Christine, Dana, and Jaylynn. Their passion and talents echo throughout our entire district and I’m confident this year will be the best yet. If there is one thing you take away from our term, I hope it’s the motivation to never stop learning, growing, and striving for more. As a student and as a leader, your potential is boundless and only what you make of it. In short, this role, this organization and this family have all shaped me into the person I am today. I’ll cherish the lessons and every memory you’ve given me as I move on with the next chapter of my life! Thank you for everything, CNH KIWIN’S. With a endless passion to serve, Emma Chang Immediate Past District Governor SIKE. While I may have officially retired from the District Board, I am proud to say that I will be serving as a new Key Club International Trustee for the 2020-2021 term! :D Without a doubt, this would not have been possible without the 2019-2020 District Board and every single person I have met on my KIWIN’S journey. I am so thankful to have had the chance to serve our district as governor and that I will continue to do so on the International Board. You’ll definitely be seeing more of me so feel free to reach out to me any time! Most of all stay home and stay safe kiwis!

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT Through The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus—a highly preventable but deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 31,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. To date, we have helped save and protect lives by eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus in 27 countries! Learn More sites.kiwanis.org/Kiwanis/en/theELIMINATEproject/home.aspx

ELIMINATE WEEK Each year, Key Club hosts Eliminate Week in order to raise awareness and funds for the Eliminate Project. Although clubs were not able to participate in person as usual, the district wanted to promote the cause in our own special way. Check out the highlights on page 21! BLACK LIVES MATTER Racism and inequality have no place in our home, school, community, and ohana. Ohana means no one gets left behind. As a service organization built on inclusiveness, caring, leadership, character building, and ohana, we devote ourselves to the improvement of our community, raising awareness, and fighting against inequalities and injustices of any kind in any community. It is our duty to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and amplify their voices as leaders, servants, and an Ohana. There is much work to do; now is the time to listen, learn, and lend a hand. To the Black community: we see you, we hear you, and we will continue to stand with you.

OTC: THE WHAT’S AND WHY’S *Photo from Emerald OTC

Planning on attending OTC? Not Orangutans Throwing Couches or Orange-Toed Clowns, but the Officer Training Conference!

What is It? Every year, your Lieutenant Governor hosts a divisional conference for officers to learn about their position’s responsibilities, absorb information regarding KIWIN’S, and strengthen their skills in order to maximize success for the upcoming term. While members usually attend OTC in person, all conferences will most likely be held virtually due to the current circumstances.

Why Should I Go? The KIWIN’S equivalent to a Ted Talk, you get the opportunity to familiarize yourself with tools that may be beneficial not just for your term, but also for your entire life. The educational presentations along with a spice of fun breed a memorable experience for those who attend. Since conferences are virtual now, you won’t have to get out of the house, drive a long distance, or even change your pants! Because attending is so convenient this year, it would be a shame to miss out on this opportunity. In addition, you do not have to be an officer to attend. Any member who loves their club, feels passionate about KIWIN’S, or simply wants to have a good time can join. If you are interested in attending, please check out your division’s social media page or contact your president/LtG. Have fun! Written by Christine Do District Secretary
