CAROLYN LE DISTRICT GOVERNOR CAL-NEV-HA KIWIN’S

Hello CNH KIWIN'S! It's been over two months since the term has started! Despite the month of May and June being filled with AP tests, subject tests, and finals, the service and spirit of the members are still ever present. Our organization has always put a large emphasis on service and it shows as I've been able to see sonny unique and interesting service events! I want to personally thank all the members for being so involved within your individual school, community, and the world. Your efforts do not go unnoticed as you should all be very proud of yourselves! District Committee Applications were due on June 18th, by 11:59PM but we extended until June 19th, by 1:00AM. We received over 50 applications in total! I would like to thank every single individual that took another step by applying for District Committees! Some of the resources that are created by the District Committees would not be able to exist without the individuals who apply and are selected! Results will be out on July 2! Good luck to those who applied or are waiting to have their interview! One of my main priorities this term is to make myself more into a resource in that I want members and officers to feel comfortable asking me about any questions or concerns. Without members, our District would not be able to exist! I'm always checking my emails or messages so I am very much available. I love hearing stories about fundraisers and service events so please feel free to talk to me about them as well! I along with a few other CNH KIWIN'S members will be attending International Convention from July 6-10 in Atlanta, Georgia! We'll be bringing back extremely important information from the many workshops! As always, feel free to message or email me for any questions or concerns! In service and spirit, Carolyn Le 2016-2017 Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S District Governor

LILLI NGUYEN DISTRICT SECRETARY CAL-NEV-HA KIWIN’S

Hello and happy summer! If you haven’t been having a good summer, you will after hearing the monthly results from May! Springing out of the very real condition, Post-DCON depression, divisions got right back to their feet and started pulling out those service hours. This month of May is especially significant because our District achieved 3,543 service hours, a whopping 1,495 hours more than last month! Thank you to all divisions for increasing their activity this month showing everyone that although we may be small, we exceed in service hours and spirit! Keep it up with those awesome service events and fundraisers! Because May is the month of Eliminate Week, District Board had high expectations for the creative service events for Project Eliminate. And so, I am proud to announce that our district completed 485.3 hours for Project Eliminate, effectively ending the last year for Project Eliminate with a bang! As summer starts, District Board looks forward to the plethora of service projects the divisions will hold. Let’s kick this summer off with a great head start! Yours in Service, Lilli Nguyen 2016-2017 Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S District Secretary

CH ARISSA NGUYEN DISTRICT TREASURER CAL-NEV-HA KIWIN’S

Greetings Grizzly, Thank you for being a part of the CNH KIWIN’S ohana. Thank you for caring and being the change you wish to see in the world, instead of waiting for it to happen. Thank you for offering your friendship and extending your arms to embrace differences between one another and sincerely embodying our one family, one mission, one word motto. Everything that you do, whether large or small, is significant, because somewhere, you are making ripples. While the world we live in may seem so full of hatred at times, the youth in this organization outshine that hatred with their love. Love for service. Love for spirit. Love for leadership. Love for one another. CNH KIWIN’S truly is the district that never ceases to amaze. But don’t take my word for it, because this is shown consistently through the money we raise, the service hours we perform, and the leadership we contain. This past month, most of the clubs in our district participated in Key Club International’s Eliminate Week, and the results are astonishing. In May of 2015, we raised $5,420.82 for Project Eliminate, but this year, we increased that amount by $3,533.16. In just one week, our District fundraised $8,953.98, enough to provide 4,974 mothers with proper vaccination against Maternal Neonatal Tetanus and to save all her future babies! I would personally like to thank all the members, especially treasurers, that poured tremendous effort into planning these fundraisers. Not only did clubs successfully fundraise, but I also witnessed the awareness they brought to their campus of the disease especially as our final year with the Eliminate Project comes to a close. Congratulations KIWIN’S. You inspire me everyday, and I am humbled to serve as your 2016-2017 District Treasurer. I love you all bear-y much and can’t wait to see what else is in store for us this year. Yours in Service, Charissa Nguyen 2016-2016 Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S District Treasurer

ELIMINATE WEEK RECAPS

“Each day of the week was assigned a specific event or opportunity to allow people and students from outside of the club to gain some knowledge of Project Eliminate as well as how they could contribute to the cause. On the first day, Monday, our activities chair had prepared a photo frame that was decorated for the theme of Eliminate Week. The photo frame was available to all of the students on campus to take a picture with them and their friends which allowed many new people to become aware of Project Eliminate. Thursday was known as Throwback Thursday where members posted a picture of themselves with another motherly or female figure on any type of social media along with the caption #eliminateweek. Not only did this help spread awareness of Eliminate Week, but it allowed members to thank their mothers or other female figures for the care that they have given. The last day of Eliminate Week on Friday was labeled Fundraiser Friday where Segerstrom KIWIN’s sold Krispy Kreme donuts after school hours for $1 a single donut and $10 for a dozen. Overall, the sale of the donuts was successful with the ending profit adding up to over $100. All in all, Eliminate Week at Segerstrom was successful in raising funds and awareness through the help and contribution of board and general members.” -Allison Ngo, Segerstrom Historian

"ORHS KIWIN’S concluded the school year with another successful bake sale fundraiser. With baked goods made by various members of the club, the items sold ranged from cookies to salted caramel bars and bundt cakes. With 8 of our members, we raised over 200 dollars in profit while almost selling out on everything but our more "intimidating items", as many customers came to put them (ex: the slated caramel bars). With a morning filled with pleasant consumers and enthusiastic spirits, the overall connection between each member grew stronger. Despite bringing the members even closer, it still remains a bitter sweet moment as the seniors participated in their final KIWIN’S hosted event. Yet not only did we connect among ourselves, we helped spread the word and raised money for the ELIMINATE Project, all the while bringing a little sweetness into people's day. To conclude a successful 2015-2016 school year, we wish good luck to the departing seniors and look forward to the arrival of the 2016-2017 school year." -Justine Phan, Otay Ranch Historian “Altogether, Rancho Campana KIWIN'S raised $405.44 after deducting the items bought, saving about 225 mothers and their children from Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus! We would like to thank all staff, teachers, administrators, and students for making this week so successful and with the combine efforts in our division, Turquoise Division raised around $2000, saving about 1,100 children and their mothers from Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus!” -Mikie Phouthavong, Rancho Campana Club President

FEATURED ARF ALVIN NGUYEN, VICE PRESIDENT LA QUINTA HS, JET DIVISION The Duck-A-Thon event took place at Huntington Beach, where people met up to indulge in various foods, the fun Kid Zone, and most importantly the Duck Races, where people bought ducks and dumped them into the ocean, anxious to see which ducks would reach shore first. Our members were very excited to attend this event since they took part in supporting the game booths such as arts and crafts and even helped pick up ducks from the sea! According to freshman Adriane Nguyen, “Duck-A-Thon was a fun experience especially finding superhero ducks,” portraying the excitement our members attained for this event. Volunteers also raised funds for AltaMed’s Huntington Beach Community Clinic, where thousands of uninsured and medically underserved patients are treated every year, while spending time at the beach with lots of sand, sun, surf, and food! At the end of the event, members were appreciated for their hard work and later stayed at the beach to enjoy the scenery! Overall, our members not only had fun picking up ducks at the beach, but were able to commit towards a great cause and contribute to the community.
