I don’t believe in destiny, fate or love at first sight... is this normal..because everyone thinks I’m weird? I do believe we make choices that gets us where we are, but I don’t believe a greater power has complete control over what happens to us. I don’t believe in love at first sight because you can’t possibly love someone the second you see themsure you can think “Oh he’s cute” or “He looks like a good person” or “Hmm, maybe I should go talk to him.” But that doesn’t mean you love them, it just means you got an impression of them-that’s all...is this normal, or am I the only one? Love is at the forefront of couples’ minds when they become engaged. And for centuries, poets have written about the virtues of love while songwriters often look to love and heartache as their subject matter. It’s easy to overlook that the heart and the brain are parts of the body when considering the effects of being in love. While a large part of the reactions that occur are emotional in nature, being in love also has a profound physical effect on our body. Studies have proved that chemicals flood the brain when love is in the air. noting that some can affect personal attachment, pleasure and well-being. So there are reasons why pulses race and palms sweat when people are in love. So congratulations on being in engaged to be married! She’s rescued a wedding from a collapsing roof with only 24 hours notice, and she’s even gone as far as leaving flyers at the church to inform guests where to go to next due to couples experiencing unforeseen emergencies.

Born in California and moving here when she was only three days old, you can say she is pretty much a lifelong resident of Brevard County. She owned her first restaurant at 19. She has worked for major venues, handling all the catering, as well as servicing the restaurant and bar. She even owned a dog bakery and boutique called Snickerpoodles in Cocoa Village, with made from scratch organic treats. For seven years she was the food and beverage manager and department head at Sterling Casinos, she’s managed 500 employees and five different departments. She now has a home catering business where she makes casseroles and dishes and delivers them to the elderly friends. You certainly can say she has had many years pleasing customers in the hospitality industry. In 2017 Valerie was a recipient of a Central Florida Humanitarian Award for her creation of Bald, Beautiful, Barbie’s which she founded five years ago. To date, she has donated 600 of these dolls to hospitals all around the world for their cancer patients. To show her support, Valerie has also shaved her head three times. Currently she makes Chemo care bags filled with items to help patients make it through their three hour treatment.

Getting back to the weddings now, Valerie has worked at many different wedding venues doing the planning. With at least 25 years under her belt, she has gotten to know all of the professional vendors here in the county. It’s not just a business circle; it’s a friendship circle she said. It’s these professionals who recommend her when a bride-to-be runs into an issue. They say, “You need help, let me call Valerie.” It’s the ethics and the integrity she says that has built these solid relationships. She gets no bonuses or kickbacks from referrals and only uses people who she knows will take care of the bride; she cannot be persuaded by the dollar. Clients are always thrilled with the professionals she works with. They all work together in synergy, no words are really needed, they know what to do and when to do it, and that’s the way it should be. Her expertise and knowledge is tremendous. She’s been hired on a wednesday for a wedding on that friday, and has now personally handled eight of these last minute, oh no, what do we do now weddings.

Weddings, who’s known for his beach weddings and fabulous archways and décor. Her team consists of her mother, who is her office assistant and Kim, who she has worked with so many years they practically read each other’s minds. She works with the best chefs who have two or three choices of every genre along with special diets such as gluten free and vegan. So now, Valerie has decided to stop working for other vendors and take the knowledge she has from her past experiences and create her own business enterprise. She didn’t like being told that she could not go above and beyond because it wasn’t in the negotiated price, she believes you do whatever it takes and she loves to add the extra touches needed to make the day amazingly perfect. When a bride tells her what she wants, Valerie knows the ins and outs, whether it is in mom’s back yard or in a mansion, with dollar store flowers or bouquets from the most expensive florist in town, to her, one is just as special as the other. She’s made centerpieces and favors, and even walked the venue washing off chairs. No detail is left undone. But, it’s not about her, it’s the bride’s day and it has to be absolutely perfect after all, it is the most important day of her life. She says, if you put your trust in her, then it is her full responsibility and she will prevail no matter what the obstacle, she is the lady that has your back.

She still keeps in touch with all of her past brides and continues to follow the trends from the west coast and Europe to keep fully up-to-date. Weddings aren’t the only planning she likes to do; she does everything from corporate luncheons to showers and handles all of them from soup to nuts too. Her motto is to always treat clients well, always treat employees well, always work hard, and always say please and thank you. Because of this concept her employees have stayed with her through the years.

too “rustic” for their tastes. It needed a luxury decorated bridal suite and a very cool groom suite. The lighting had to be over the top with chandeliers, white market lights, string lights and more. It needed a full service bar and caterer’s staging area with all the necessary commercial appliances. And what Barn would be complete without a covered patio as a cocktail area between the ceremony area and the Barn. No expense was spared, including installing a WiFi controlled surround sound system and projector with huge screen. And it was professionally decorated with everything a couple could ask for. Yet the Barn itself was just the beginning of their vision. Next came the creation of the ceremony area. They added a pergola, big wooden cross, huge entrance doors, communion table, chairs and decorations in front of the extraordinary oak tree. Then, came the white horse barn and horse stable at the north end of the property. They knew the horses would be pulling a carriage, so they got a pair of draft horses direct from horse country USA, Lexington, KY. And not just any Drafts, they got the best; Clydesdales. And then they had a gorgeous white Cinderella Carriage custom fabricated for the Clydesdale brothers Pat and Tom to pull. Lastly, came the very rare, fully restored 1956 Studebaker Truck, capping off what is now the most picture-spotrich wedding barn venue you’ll find perhaps anywhere in the country. Unlike most Barns which started off as family owned properties and then were later updated to host weddings. Ever After Farms was created to be Florida’s perfect rustic barn wedding venue. The founders saw the popularity of wedding barns sweeping the Sunshine State but were surprised to discover that none of the existing Barns had absolutely everything couples wanted in a country barn venue. So they set out to create it and on December 2, 2017, Ever After Farms Wedding Barn officially opened. With a background in real estate, the owners started their property search by keeping land use and zoning laws in mind. Sadly, some wedding venues ignore this important detail and local governments have been shutting down violators in our area, leaving engaged couples high and dry, scrambling for a last minute replacement venue. They were looking for a needle in a haystack. The land had to be absolutely beautiful. It needed to be centrally located but also be completely secluded. It needed to have a pond for pictures and a gigantic live oak tree for couples to give their vows under. After a very long quest, they found a private, 17 acre blueberry farm for sale. The acres of blueberries looked like a vineyard, creating a very romantic and beautiful setting. It was located just 50 minutes from Orlando, Daytona and Melbourne and was just a few miles off I-95. Plus, it had an incredible live oak tree and a peaceful pond. It fit their criteria exactly. Once purchased, they immediately began shaping it into what you see today. First, came the white wedding barn. It had to be big. They saw that so many Barns greatly restricted the number of guests and that put couples in the uncomfortable position of having to exclude some friends and family from coming to their wedding. So they made it 8,000 sq ft. It had to have heat and air conditioning. They couldn’t believe that some couples were having wedding receptions in structures without heat or AC. It had to have indoor bathrooms. Port-o-potties for lavatories were a bit

hat started out as a search for their daughter’s dream wedding has now turned into an amazing 5 star wedding venue in the beautiful town of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. When one of Allen and Dorothy’s daughters began planning her perfect wedding and looking for what she dreamed of in a wedding venue, searching for miles and miles, and still not falling in love with what she was finding, it dawned on them that they had the property and the passion right there to make their daughters wish come true. Ideally, their daughter had dreamed of a barn venue. She knew exactly what she wanted and so began the plan. Her father Allen, being a builder, began construction of this perfect barn venue. Who wouldn’t love to do this for their child? The barn is located on 10 acres of lush landscape. It is basically a stylish empty shell so that each couple can transform this blank slate into their own individual masterpiece. This allows everyone to choose and fulfill their own different and unique wedding style and theme. WEDDING VENUE CHECKLIST

NOTES There really are two very different types of wedding venues, full service and not full service. A full service wedding venue most of the time offers everything from table and chair rentals, to linens and catering supplies, while a non-full service venue most of the time only offers you the space and it is up to you to fill in the rest. This means you will be responsible for booking all of the vendors for the wedding day. Either way, some venues have required vendors that they want you to work with, so that is something to figure out before you the book space. Working with venue-required vendors such as caters, rental companies, and event designers does not give you the option of “shopping” around and finding a quote that meets your budget.

• How many guests can the space accommodate? • How much is the rental fee and what does it include?

It seems to everyone around that Kathy can speak to the wood. She thinks outside the box and has her own private workshop with all of her own tools. Planers, band saws, she loves what she does and her power tools too. On a normal day she is out in her workshop at 9:00 am and doesn’t care if she’s in there all day. To her, there is no piece that is unworkable; everything is a masterpiece just waiting to be reborn.
