50 DAYS to Pentecost Braam v d Schyff

___________________________ ___________________________ INTRODUCTION : WHY PENTECOST ? Pentecost (Greek: “Pentēkostē"the 50th [day]) is one of the prominent feasts in the Christian liturgical year commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Christ after the Resurrection. Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks (50 days) after Easter Sunday, hence its name. Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Pentecost is historically and symbolically related to the Jewish harvest festival of “Shavuot”, which commemorates God giving the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai 50 days after the Exodus. Among Christians, Pentecost commemorates the descent (outpouring) of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus as described in Acts 2:1-31. For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described as the "Birthday of the Church.

DAY1

- CO-CREATOR (SPIRIT OF THE LORD)

SUNDAY ___________________________

Rev 1:4 …. May grace (God's unmerited favor) be granted to you …. from the seven Spirits [the sevenfold Holy Spirit] before His throne, [Isa. 11:2.] Isa 11:2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him--the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord-There is only ONE Holy Spirit with 7 fold attributes of which the first is being “ the SPIRIT of the LORD”.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

a. He was part of the Creation process - Gen 1:1-2 IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.

___________________________

b. He is the 3rd person in the Trinity - Gen 1:26 God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority …….. 1. Other proof: Gen 3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us ….. 2. Gen 11:7 - "Come, let Us [plural pronoun] go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech." 3. Isaiah 6:8 - "Then I heard the voice of the Lord [plural elohim], saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us ? 4. At the Baptism of Jesus - Mat 3:16-17 And when Jesus (THE SON) was baptized….he [John] saw the Spirit of God (descending) ….And.. a voice from (the Father in) heaven said, This is My Son, (ALL THREE WAS PRESENT ON THAT DAY) 5. Another proof – 1 John 5:7 So there are three witnesses in heaven: the Father, the Word(Son, Jesus) and the Holy Spirit, and these three are One;

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Father we pray that you may grant us a spirit of Wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. DAY 2

– SPIRIT OF WISDOM

Isa 11:2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him--the Spirit of wisdom ….. Not only was the Holy Spirit a Spirit of Wisdom to Jesus, but even to ordinary men, God gave a Spirit of Wisdom – • Exo 31:3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and ability, in understanding and intelligence, and in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, Also in Exo 35:31 . • In Deut 34:9 we read of Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him; ……. • The testimony of Daniel in Dan 5:11 – “There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the holy God, and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him”…the king confirms this in Dan 5:14 “I have heard of you, that the Spirit of the holy God is in you and that light and understanding and superior wisdom are found in you”. • As prophesied, (in Isaiah 11:2), the testimony of Jesus in Luk 2:40 And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of God was upon Him. [Read : Judg. 13:24; I Sam. 2:26.] God’s promise in Prov 1:23 - If you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my Spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you. (AMPL) PAULS PRAYER FOR US in Eph 1:17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, THE SPIRIT OF WIDOM is necessary for the fulfillment of your ministry : Act 6:3 Therefore select out from among yourselves, brethren, seven men of good and attested character and repute, full of the [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we may assign to look after this business and duty. The advantage - Act 6:10 But they (the unbelievers) were not able to resist the intelligence and the wisdom and [the inspiration of] the Spirit with which and by Whom he spoke. We must be careful - 1Cor 2:13 And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit]. We must realise it is a gift from God - 1Cor 12:8 To one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, …… The promise of James 1:5 - But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all.

DAY 5 – SPIRIT OF POWER

THURSDAY

Isa 11:2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him-- the Spirit of…. Might….(AMPL) (CEV) ….He will be powerful, …(DRB) the spirit of fortitude, (GW) The Spirit of ..power, … The Hebrew word- :”gheb-oo-raw' - means : valor, victory: - force, mastery, might, mighty (act, power), power, strength.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ______________________

Fortitude is commonly called courage, but it is different from what much of what we think of as courage today. Fortitude is always reasoned and reasonable; the person exercising fortitude is willing to put himself in danger if necessary, but he does not seek danger for danger's sake. Testimony of Jesus in Luk 4:14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, and the power of the Holy Spirit was with him. The news about him spread throughout all that territory.

WE NEED THE SPIRIT OF POWER 1. Power to be a witness. - Act 1:8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth. Just like the prophet - Mic 3:8 But as for me, the LORD fills me with his spirit and power, 1. and gives me a sense of justice and 2. the courage to tell the people of Israel what their sins are. 2. Power to bring forth - Luk 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God. 3. Power to drive out demons - Mat 12:28 No, it is not Beelzebul, but God's Spirit, who gives me the power to drive out demons, which proves that the Kingdom of God has already come upon you. 4. Power for TRUE WORSHIP - Joh 4:23-24 But the time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God's Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants…. God is Spirit, and only by the power of his Spirit can people worship him as he really is." 5. Power for signs and wonders - Rom 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; Read: 1Cor 12:10 ; 2 Cor 12:12 ; Heb 2:4 6. Power to confirm the Word - 1Cor 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 7. Power Not to fear - 2Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

And being assembled together with them, He (Jesus) commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Acts 1:4-5 In Eph. 1:13, the Holy Spirit is expressly called the "Holy Spirit of promise."

I.

What Is a Promise?

___________________________

A promise is an assurance given by one person to another person that what they say will be done. Num 23:19 God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through? A promise of God is a declaration of His intention to bestow a gift graciously upon us all. 2Cor 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him (Jesus) are yea, and in Him(Christ) Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

What must we do with the Promise? III. 1. Believe it – Joh 7:39 But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. …. 2. Pray for it - Isa 62:6 O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray to the LORD (and remind Him) day and night for the fulfillment of his promises. Take no rest, all you who pray. (must remind Him) 3. Wait upon it - Act 1:4 And while being in their company and eating with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised, Of which [He said] you have heard Me speak. Day 9

– PROMISE OF STREAMS OF WATER

Joh 7:37-39 …, Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! …. He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. In the O.T during the Feast Of Tabernacles, there was a daily ceremony involving water. Each day, the priests and the people would joyfully make their way to the pool of Siloam, using a golden pitcher, water was drawn, taken back to the temple, and poured on the altar of burnt offering, The words of Isa 12:3 were sung: "Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation." In figurative language, the Spirit of God is represented as water firstly being given TO US, and then flowing from WITHIN US. • The promise by the prophets : (the spirit like water) Isa 32:15, "Until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest."—as well as Isa 44:3, "For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring;" • The invitation by Jesus: ". Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.' " JOHN 7:37 a. TO WHOM ? – an open invitation – IF ANY MAN ….. then he gives the deciding factor - THOSE WHO BELIEVE b. THE CONDITIONS - upon him Who is thirsty ? – Psa 42:1-2 As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God. My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. (Ampl) Psa 143:6 I spread forth my hands to You; my soul thirsts after You like a thirsty land [for water]. Isa 55:1 WAIT and listen, everyone who is thirsty … WHAT IS THE PROMISE ? - A refreshing drink that can become rivers of living water. 1) First refreshing our souls "Jesus answered and said to her (the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well...),…. but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst-. John 4:13 2) Then refreshing the souls around us by His impact on our lives But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.' May our attitude and heart's felt desire be similar to that of the the woman , saying 'Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.'" (John 4:13-15)

Day 10

– PROMISE OF

LEADERSHIP and GUIDANCE

Joh 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). The GREEK word –“hodēgeō”- to show the way [to teach]): - to guide,to lead – to act as a conductor [teacher]: - to be a guide, to be a leader. From 2 words hēgeomai (to lead)+ hodos (a road); by implication :progress on the route, to take on journey, to lead on the highway.

TUESDAY ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

The promise of Isa 58:11 - And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters fail not. The promise of Isa 49:10 They will not hunger or thirst, neither will mirage [mislead] or scorching wind or sun smite them; for He Who has mercy on them will lead them, and by springs of water will He guide them. [Rev. 7:16, 17.] The Spirit is in this sense just like the SON : Mat 4:19 And He said to them, Come after Me [as disciples-letting Me be your Guide], follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men!

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

DAVIDIC declaration : Psa 73:24 You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to honor and glory. Psa 48:14 For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide [even] until death. Psa 25:5 Guide me in Your truth and faithfulness and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You [You only and altogether] do I wait [expectantly] all the day long. Psa 143:10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; let Your good Spirit lead me into a level country and into the land of uprightness. WHAT THE SPIRIT WILL DO • he will guide you into all truth: John 16:13 • For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; • He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and • He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. John 16:13 • He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you. Joh 16:14 ADVANTAGES OF BEING LEAD BY THE SPIRIT : Rom 8:14 -All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Gal 5:16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh. Gal 5:18 But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.

Day 11

– PROMISE

OF A TEACHER

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], • He will teach you all things. • And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you. IT MATTERS WHO IS YOUR TEACHER David confesses in Psa 119:102 I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, for You Yourself have taught me. God’s promise: Isa 54:13 And all your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will], and great shall be the peace and undisturbed composure of your children. (AMPL) Isa 54:13 All your children will have GOD for their teacher-what a mentor for your children! (MESSAGE ) This prophesy was fulfilled in John 6:45 …… And they shall all be taught of God [have Him in person for their Teacher]. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me- Psa 32:8 I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. We are DISCIPLES as well as DISCIPLEMAKERS (Matt 28:19) Col 3:16 Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom ……. Isa 50:4 [The Servant of God says] The Lord God has given Me the tongue of a disciple and of one who is taught, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He wakens Me morning by morning, He wakens My ear to hear as a disciple [as one who is taught]. TO BE A GOOD DISCIPLE ; Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, Col 3:16 Continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned [them], 2Tim 3:14 that [you follow the instructions which] you learned from us about how you ought to walk so as to please and gratify God, …1Th 4:1 …. Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you. Phi 4:9

Being a Teacher (someone taught by the Spirit to teach others) is a Big responsibility Jam 3:1 NOT MANY [of you] should become teachers (selfconstituted censors and reprovers of others), my brethren, for you know that we [teachers] will be judged by a higher standard and with greater severity [than other people; thus we assume the greater accountability and the more condemnation]. We have to make sure that we are beyond reproach Rom 2:21 Well then, you who teach others, do you not teach yourself? IF WE ARE TAUGHT BY GOD : • Psa 119:99 I have better understanding and deeper insight than all my teachers, because Your testimonies are my meditation. [II Tim. 3:15.] • 1John 2:27 But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do]. The Holy Spirit uses the Word - 2Tim 3:16-17 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for : 1. Instruction, - (giving guidance and knowledge) 2. for Reproof and conviction of sin, 3. for Correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] 4. for Training in Righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Heb 5:12 For even though by this time you ought to be teaching others, you actually need someone to teach you over again the very first principles of God's Word.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

The Holy Spirit also use people Eph 4:11 And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. 1Cor 12:28 So God has appointed some in the church [for His own use]: first apostles (special messengers); second prophets (inspired preachers and expounders); third teachers; then wonder-workers; then those with ability to heal the sick; helpers; administrators; [speakers in] different (unknown) tongues

IF WE DO NOT ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT to teach us we will remain “babes” in Christ.

Day 12

– PROMISE OF

BAPTISM OF FIRE

The promise by John the Baptist in Mat 3:11 I indeed baptise you in (with) water because of repentance. But He Who is coming after me is mightier than I, …He (Jesus)will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Jesus confirmed this Acts1:5 For John baptised with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with (placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit. We find the confirmation Luk 3:16 "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to “clear” his threshing floor and to “gather” the wheat into his barn, but he will “burn” up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (3:16d-17) The process of preparing grain involved (1) threshing, that is, crushing, beating or thrashing the grain heads in order to loosen the grain kernels from the surrounding stems and husks; and (2) winnowing, using a kind of wooden pitch fork (a winnowing fork) to throw the threshed grain heads into the breeze, so the lighter chaff will blow downwind, and the heavier grain kernels will fall back to the ground, separating the two. The floor would be "cleared" by threshing and then winnowing all the grain heads until the chaff and grain had been completely separated. The grain was then gathered into baskets and stored in the barn, but the remaining chaff stems and husks were piled together and set ablaze.(burnt.) MESSAGE -Luk 3:16-17 ..(HE, JESUS)…. will ignite the kingdom life, a fire, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. He's going to clean house--make a clean sweep of your lives. He'll place everything true in its proper place before God; everything false he'll put out with the trash to be burned." 1. CLEARING -. The verb translated "clear" (NIV) or "purge" (KJV) is Greek diakathairo, "clean out, cleanse thoroughly." The threshing floor is the EARTH, the wheat are the CHILDREN of GOD and the chaff is the unbelievers. Joh 16:8-11 And when he (THE HOLY SPIRIT) is come, He will reprove (convince; convict) the world of sin, and of righteousness , and of judgment: a. Of sin, because they believe not on me; b. Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; c. Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. The believers(wheat) are those who have accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior, according to Joh 1:12 “ But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” This is the threshing and winnowing work of the Holy Spirit to determine which are really sons of God (wheat) and who are NOT.(chaff).

2. GATHERING - Greek word= “sunago” to lead together, to collect or convene; to entertain (hospitably): to accompany, to assemble together, to gather , to lead into, to resort,to take in. Only Reborn children of God can receive the Holy Spirit and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit clearly indicates who are the Children of God. The symbol of the tongues of fire that appeared over the heads of the 120 disciples in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:3) was the fulfillment of Luk 3:16 . This fire also represents the Shekinah glory of God poured out on those WHO BELONG TO CHRIST.(Wheat) We find the same analogy in Mat 13:25-38 -“ Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Mat 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

3. BURNING - Greek – “katakaio”-; to burn down (to the ground), that is, consume wholly: - burn (up, utterly). From the word - “kaio”- to set on fire, that is, kindle ; to consume: - burn, light. 3 FOLD BURNING PROCESS: 1. The fire of God within us – They who are baptised with the Holy Ghost are baptised as with fire; the seven spirits of God appear as seven lamps of fire, Rev_4:5. The are (2)enlightened ( illuminated). And (2)Warmed Up/ On Fire and Burning for God. 2. The Burning away af all unrighteousness in our lives As we are convinced of things that are NOT from God and does not reflect the person of Jesus Christ , the Spirit of God burns away all unrighteousness. This is called Holiness. More or less what happened to Isaiah in Isa 6:6-7 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 3. The End Time JUDGEMENT Mat 13:39-42 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Luk 3:17 …but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. Fire is a symbol of vengeance. See Isa_5:24; Isa_61:2; Isa_66:24. Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Day 14

– PROMISE OF BLESSINGS

Galatians 3:1-14 Question 1. …. Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Ouestion 2. …Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard? Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” …. that those who believe are children of Abraham. God would justify the Gentiles by faith, … “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. “The righteous will live by faith.” He (Jesus) redeemed us (from the law and curse) )in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. The text informs us that this blessing promised to Abraham, and to his seed, and through Christ his seed, to all the nations of the earth, is the Holy Spirit. The blessing of Abraham is all about the anointing for dominion(to reign).

The promise of God to Abraham in Genesis 17:6 : 1. Firstly - That God would make Abraham firstly exceeding fruitful, 2. Secondly - that He would make nations and kings come out of Abraham. So then when you declare that the blessing of Abraham is upon you, you are actually saying : 1. That you have the anointing to prosper in everything …. Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

2. That you are reigning over all circumstances in life. You are a King. 1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING UNTO OTHERS. ___________________________ I must state clearly that the Holy Spirit as a person, is a GIFT and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a GIFT promised by God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son.

___________________________

Just as Jesus Christ , and Salvation through Him, is a GIFT of GRACE (Undeserved Favour of God) to the UNBELIEVER ( Ephes 2:8-9), such is the Holy Spirit and UNDESERVED GIFT to the Believer. There is nothing we can do to “deserve” the spirit, and there is nothing we can “offer” (like Simon the sorceror in Rom 8) to obtain the Holy Spirit BUT... there are steps of obedience and certain things we can do to free us from anything that might prevent us, or prohibit us from receiving the Baptism is the Holy Spirit.

___________________________

___________________________

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

WE MUST DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING: 1. RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT – receiving the person. 2. BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT – receiving the ministry. 1. RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. We RECEIVE the Holy Spirit at Rebirth (Repentance). The same Holy Spirit who convicted us of sin, righteousness and judgement, and convinced us to accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour (Joh 1:12 , has now comes to live within us. Joh 3:3-5 teaches us “ Except a man be born again… (of the Spirit), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” According to Rom 8:9 …if any man DOES NOT have (as possession) the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. According to 1Cor 6:19 our bodies becomes the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in us, which ye have of God, and we are not our own? This is the fullfillment of the promises we find in Ezek 36:27 and John 14:17.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

We see this example of receiving the Holy Spirit without being Baptised in the Spirit, when Jesus told his disciples to receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:22)… but they have NOT BEEN BAPTISED IN THE HOLY SPIRIT as yet, because this only happened in Acts 2. According to Col 1:27 we have this glorious mystery “which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” According to Rom 8:15 We have now received , not a spirit of slavery to put us once more in bondage to fear, but we have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! (AMPL).

Lord I pray that NOT ONLY I would have faith in you but that many others would come get to know you through me preaching the Gospel.

2. BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT The "baptism of the Holy Spirit" involves being (1) filled with (2) immersed in, (3) covered with, (4) empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the very basis of our life in Christ and our connection to God. Jesus fills, covers, floods and empowers us with the Holy Spirit to be able to fulfill the Ministry we were created for. a. The FILLING WITH the Holy Spirit is how He “completes” us for the task.(Acts 2:4 ; Acts 4:31; Eph 5:18 ; Acts 13:9). FILLED - pletho-(from pleo) - to “fill” [ to influence, to supply ; specifically to fulfil (time) - accomplish, to make full , to furnish. i. Eph 5:18 …; but be filled with the Spirit; … “Greek word = “pleres”- to be covered over; to be complete: - full. ii. Act 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. From the greek word “Ple-roo” - to make replete; to fill up or level up (a hollow), to furnish , to satisfy, to execute (an office), to finish (a period or task), to verify or fulfill a prediction, - to complete, fill (up), to make perfect, to supply. iii. Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: b. The BAPTISM IN the Holy Spirit is where we are “immersed” into Him , when we were born again, and was Baptised in water we received all of Him, but NOW He receives all of us. We are overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit and “flooded” with the Holy Spirit. Water is just a symbol of cleansing. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, is the actual agent of cleansing and empowerment. Greek word for “BAPTISED”-“baptizo” - to make whelmed ; to fully wet , to baptize, to wash…”bapto”- to overwhelm, that is, cover wholly with a fluid; to moisten , to stain (as with dye): - dip. (to be submerged) Mar 1:8 …. but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Act 1:5 .. but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost … Act 11:16 ….; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. SO THAT WHATEVER GOD HAS PLACED “INSIDE US” can now be manifested into a great ministry. Here follows a few PRE-REQUISITES for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, namely: 1. Faith – believing the Grace 2. Salvation - accepting the Grace 3. Obedience – adhering to God’s instruction (Be Baptised) 4. Knowledge – understanding the Gift of Grace 5. Laying on of hands – Acting on Grace 6. Patience – Waiting on Grace 7. Prayer – Asking/Seeking and Knocking on Grace

– FAITH – Believing

His Grace

SUNDAY

Joh 20:31 But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is]. [Ps. 2:7,12.]

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

JESUS GAVE A a PRE-REQUISITE for the PROMISE in : Joh 7:38-39 He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. Joh 7:39 But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. …. THIS IS CONFIRMED IN Mar 16:17 "These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues, (Message) Mar 16:17 ….those who believe….…..they will speak in new languages; (AMPL)

Act 2:41 Many of them believed his message and were baptized,

___________________________

Act 10:43-44 All the prophets spoke about him, saying that all who believe in him will have their sins forgiven through the power of his name." …. While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who were listening to his message. WHICH MEANS THAT ..THEY MUST HAVE “BELIEVED” WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD…. Gal 3:5 Does God give you the Spirit and work miracles among you because you do what the Law requires or because you hear the gospel and believe it?

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Acts 8:12-16 But when they “believed” the good news (the Gospel) about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) as Philip preached it, they were baptized, both men and women. … When they arrived, they prayed for the “believers” that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For the Holy Spirit had not yet come down on any of them; ….. Rom 10:14 But how are people to call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on Whom they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust in, and rely upon Him] of Whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher?

Day 16

– SALVATION – Accepting Grace

This is the 2nd PRE-REQUISITE for the baptism in the Holy Spirit Act 2:38 And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. BEING BORN AGAIN Joh 3:3 Jesus answered him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God. Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water (FLESH) and [even] the Spirit, he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God. [Ezek. 36:25-27.] REALISING YOUR SINFULL STATE Rom 3:23 Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives. Rom 3:24 [All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus, REALISING THAT ONLY BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED Eph 2:8 For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Eph 2:9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.] CONFESSING YOUR SINS 1Jo 1:9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].

Prayer : Father we realise that

the only way to be saved is through faith. Lord I pray that NOT ONLY I would have faith in You but that many others would come get to know You through me preaching the Gospel.

REPENT - MAKE AN ABOUT TURN (180 degrees) GREEK – “metanoeo” - to think differently or afterwards, to change your mind, to reconsider : to repent. To make a 180% degree about turn. Act 2:38 Peter said to them, "Each one of you must turn away from your sins ….., so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit.

DAY17 - BE BAPTISED – Obedience in Grace

TUESDAY ___________________________

Act 2:38 Peter said to them, "Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit. This is the 3rd PRE-REQUISITE for the baptism in the Holy Spirit , and is AN ACT OF OBEDIENCE Peter tells us in Acts 5:32 And we are witnesses of these things, and the Holy Spirit is also, Whom God has bestowed on those who obey Him.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Paul sees the Baptism in the Holy Spirit as a natural result after becoming a believer. - Act 19:1-3 There he found some disciples and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?" …… Act 19:5-6 When they heard this(Pauls explaination), they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. and Paul placed his hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came upon them; they spoke in strange tongues and also proclaimed God's message.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

You might ask the question, “WHY MUST I BE BAPTISED” ?

___________________________

1. Because it is a Command – Matt 28;19 ; Acts 2:38 2. Because Jesus set the example , and you want to follow His example – Matt 3:16 ; Luk 3:21 3. It is a Testimony of our faith – Mark 16:16 4. It is the washing away of our sins. (Acts 22:16; Acts 2:38 ,Luke 3:3). 5. It is buriel of the old life, and the ressurection of the new life in Christ – Rom 6:3-6

___________________________

THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING BAPTISED a. The promised gift of the Spirit - Acts 2: 38-39 b. We are all made to drink into one Spirit - cf. 1Cor 12:13 c. Makes us part of the family of God – 1 Cor 12:13

___________________________

The only prerequisites for being baptized is that we must be born again ( believe in Jesus Christ as our Saviour) – Act 8:36-37 … See, [here is] water! What is to hinder my being baptized? … And Philip said, If you believe with all your heart [if you have a conviction, full of joyful trust, that Jesus is the Messiah and accept Him as the Author of your salvation in the kingdom of God, giving Him your obedience, then] …. HOW MUST I BE BAPTISED - Our word "baptize" is a transliteration of the Greek word “baptizo”, which means "dip, immerse, submerge, baptize." It's important to understand this basic meaning, (to be totally covered) regardless of our own church's practice of baptism, or how much water our church may use. COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer: Father in heaven , We want to be obedient. Thank You that we can be baptised as proof and confirmation of the washing away of our sins and that We are now part of the family of God

– KNOWLEDGE – Understanding His Grace

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Some people when waiting on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit have the wrong expectation due to the fact that they have limited or no knowledge regarding the Baptism in the Holy Spirit We must have the right expectation, based on the Knowledge of the Word and the Experience of others. Mar 12:24 Jesus said to them, Is not this where you wander out of the way and go wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? 1. KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIPTURE – I have to read and get to know every scripture that has to do with the Baptism in the Holy Spirit Jesus tells us in Rev 3:8 I know your [record of] works and what you are doing. See! I have set before you a door wide open which no one is able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept My Word and guarded My message and have not renounced or denied My name. We MUST believe that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for every believer and that we ALL have an “open door” to receive it. Luk 11:13 If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him! (AMPL) Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (NKJV) Sometimes we have all the knowledge of scripture and still we lack the power, still we have not been filled with Spirit with the speaking in other tongues. 2. KNOWLEDGE OF THE POWER We are now NOT talking about the GIFT of Knowledge, but more about KNOWING HOW GOD WORKS from experience of others.God works with each person as HE wants. Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. Some things we must realise is: a. Seek the GIVER of the Holy Spirit, not the GIFT itself. b. You must believe that when you prayed, you have received the gift c. It is you who must speak the words that the Holy Spirit puts into your mind, dont wait for the Power of God to “overcome” you and speak through you. Paul prays in Eph 1:18-19 (That you might have) the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

DAY 19

– LAYING ON OF HANDS – Applying His grace

THURSDAY ___________________________

Act 8:17-18 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. However, when Simon saw that the [Holy] Spirit was imparted through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he brought money and offered it to them, In the Old testament we find the laying on of hands for 2 reasons: 1. Transference of Power - (Num. 27:18-20); 2. Tranference of sin - (Num. 8:7-14); (Lev. 16:21); (Lev. 24:14), (Lev. 1:2-4).(Lev. 3:1, 2, 8, 13).(Lev. 4:4, 15, 24, 29).

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

We find in the New Testament that laying on of hands was practiced only for 3 reasons: 1. Healing – Mark 5:23 ; Mark 16:18 ; Acts 28:8 ; James 5:14; Matt. 9:18,19,25; Mark 8:25; Mark 7:32, 33, 35; Luke 13:11,13; Mark 6:6. 2. Blessing Matt. 19:13-15 ; Mark 10:16 3. Baptism in the Holy Spirit – (Empowerment) Once again we must realize this, that there is NOT enough evidence that hands were laid on everyone who has received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. But here follows a few examples which gives us enough reason the practice it when we pray for people for the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

___________________________

Act 9:17 So Ananias left and went into the house. And he laid his hands on Saul and said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, Who appeared to you along the way by which you came here, has sent me that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Paul must have learnt this from Ananias, because he practiced it as well: Act 19:6 And as Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke in [foreign, unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesied.

___________________________

Paul write to Timothy in 2Tim 1:6 That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination]. 1Tim 4:14 Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you [at your ordination].

___________________________

When we lay hands, transference takes place and therefore we are warned not to be too hasty to lay hands on just anyone, so we don’t get affected by their sins / bad practices. 1Tim 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure.

DAY 20

– PATIENCE

– Waiting on Grace

God does not always talk to us when we want Him to.That’s the reason why we have to wait until He tells us to go. We have to “wait” on Him to talk to us, to equip us, and to send us. God’s mandate to his disciples, after they heard His word was to “WAIT UNTIL they have received strength” - (Acts 1:8 ; Luke 24:49) Habakkuk 2:1 - I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. (KJV) Psalm 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. (KJV) THE VALUE of WAITING UPON THE LORD

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

1. EQUIPMENT - The receiving of strength and the gifts to do want God want us to do. Luke 24:49 – go and wait… until you received strength… Acts 1:8 – you will receive strength…. 1 Samuel 9:27 ….Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God. (KJV) 2. BUILDING CHARACTER - The receiving of character that is necessary for you to seeing your duty through and not giving in halfway. 1 Samuel 10:8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do. (KJV) IF THE WORD FROM THE LORD LINGERS,and I’M NOT PREPARED TO WAIT AND ACT IN MY OWN MIND, I MIGHT JUST SIN AGAINST GOD, AS SAUL DID. 3. SPIRITUAL GROWTH - The receiving of the word and spiritual maturity to handle each matter and each struggle successfully. Psalm 130:5-7 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. (KJV) 4. FORTIFICATION OF STRENGTHS – The receiving of new strength when I get tired. Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (KJV) READ: Matt 17:20-21; Luk 8:15 ;Rom 8:24-25 ; Gal 5:22

PRAYER - Asking / Seeking/ Knocking on Grace-

SATURDAY ___________________________

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"Luke 11:13 In this regard I love the Amplified version of Matt 7:7-11 Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened. Or what man is there of you, if his son asks him for a loaf of bread, will hand him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will hand him a serpent? If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him! REASONS WHY OUR PRAYERS DO NOT GET ANSWERED : 1. We don’t pray(ask, seek, knock) - ….You do not have, because you do not ask. Jam 4:2 ; Psa 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give You ……. Jam 1:5 If you need wisdom-….ask him, … 2. We have selfish reasons - [Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. …Jam 4:3 ; See also Acts 8:18-19 3. We don’t put God’s Kingdom first - But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. Mat 6:33 4. We doubt - Jam 1:6 But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. GOD’S PROMISES REGARDING PRAYER : 1. Mat 6:6 But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open. THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT is open (publicly). 2. Joh 15:7 If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. 3. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]. Joh 16:23 [Exod. 3:14.] 4. ……how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"Luke 11:13

50 DAYS to Pentecost Braam v d Schyff

___________________________ We started off last week talking about the meaning of the word “Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We said that the "baptism of the Holy Spirit" involves being (1) filled with (2) immersed in, (3) covered with, (4) empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the very basis of our life in Christ and our connection to God. Jesus fills, floods, covers and empowers us with the Holy Spirit to be able to fulfill the Ministry we were created for.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

3. COVERED WITH To study the meaning of receiving the BAPTISM of the Holy Spirit a bit further, let's look at two closely-related passages written by Luke, one at the end of Luke, the other early in Acts: "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been “clothed” (enduo) with power (dunamis) from on high." (Luke 24:49) "Clothed (KJV 'endue') with power." The verb is Greek “enduo”, "to dress, to clothe". This may be similar to the analogy of baptism, the idea of covering completely with. Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: …. COME UPON -(epiechomai)-- superimposition (of time, place, order, , to come over, to come upon, to rest upon; to give towards, Act 19:6 And as Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke in [foreign, unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesied. Much like what happened to Mary in Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow(envelop) thee……

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

4. EMPOWERED BY But you will “receive” power (dunamis) when the Holy Spirit “comes on(upon)” you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:4,5,8; Acts 11:15-16) Receive power." The verb here is the extremely common Greek word lambano, "to receive." The emphasis here is not only on voluntary acceptance of it , but upon “possessing” (taking ownership of) it. The word translated "power" is the Greek word “dunamis”, from which we get our word "dynamite." And the word “dynamo”. Greek word “Dunamis” - force ; miraculous power ; ability, abundance, power to perform mighty deeds, miracle working power, strength, (wonderful) work. But let us look at a few PROHIBITATIONS, or hinderances that keeps us from receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the speaking in tongues. .

Day 22 – WRONG MOTIVATION Jam 4:3 …you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a real experience with God, and a sincere pursuit of the real baptism will be met with God’s acceptance, and a positive response will occur. A negative pursuit for the wrong reasons will either end up with failure, or a demonic counterfeit. No sincere believer wants that to happen. The first thing you must have before asking God for this gift is the right motive.. Some people may want this gift because some of their friends may have just received it, or they want the gift of tongues, or they want God’s power to be able to do what their will is rather than what God’s will is going to be for their lives. In other words, they want this gift for their own selfish purposes rather than for what God wants to do with their lives. The two main reasons that each Christian should want to have this gift for are the following: 1. To be able to draw closer to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in your own personal relationships with each of Them. The number one thing that God wants from each one of us more than anything else is a one-on-one, intimate, personal relationship.

___________________________ The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit operating through you to accomplish whatever it is God wants you to do for Him…It is The UNCTION to FUNCTION ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Dear lord You know whether I am sincere with You , as to why I really want the Power of God in my life , change my heart if I seek this gift for the wrong reasons, I want to KNOW you and be used BY YOU . Amen

The prayer of Jesus in John 17:20-23 Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching, That they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one: I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me. 2. The second main reason that you will want this gift is so that you can have God’s supernatural power flowing through you so you can fully accomplish whatever God’s perfect will is going to be for you in this life. This is where you can really enter into what is called the anointing. The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit operating through you to accomplish whatever it is God wants you to do for Him. (Acts 1:8 ; Matt 28:19 ; Mark 16:17-19; ) Make sure that your motives are right and pure with the Lord. God knows our hearts, thoughts and motives . – LACK OF DESIRE

Psa 42:1-2 As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for you, the living God. When can I go and worship in your presence? This is why many people do not initially receive this gift when they first go up for it at the altar calls at their church. (1) They have not been properly prepared as to what this gift is really all about, (2) They have not been properly prepared as to what God’s will expect from them if He should release this gift to them. i.e This person does not really understand the ramifications and responsibility that comes from receiving this gift.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Decide If You Really Want It Once you have examined your motives and you know that you can approach God with the right reasons and right motives for wanting this gift – then the next step is to decide if you really want this gift. This may sound a bit redundant, but it isn’t. This gift is only for those who want to go “all out” for God. Joh 7:37 …, Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! If God is going to allow the Holy Spirit to release His Power and Gifts up into your soul area, then He is going to want you to do something with it. God has a specific call, a specific purpose, and a specific plan for each person’s life. See the example in 1Chron 11:17 David had a sudden craving (longing, desire): "What I wouldn't give for a drink of water from the well in Bethlehem, the one at the gate!" (Msge) Hebrew for CRAVING - 'avah - - to wish for: - to covet, (greatly) to desire, to long for, to lust (after). What ?: - a drink of water (specific) From where ? – The well in Bethelehem (specific) Just so we must also know WHAT we want(desire) and from WHOM we want(desire) it, for WHAT PURPOSE ? We must be like the woman at the well in Joh 4:15 .. give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty 1Co 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: … (KJV) 1Co 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, AMPL Greek word – “zeloo” - to have warmth of feeling ; to covet earnestly, to have a desire, to moved with envy, to be jealous over, to be zealous after. The promise of Mar 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Unless you have a desire to be used by God for whatever He wants to use you for, in this life, then His anointing is just going to be wasted and He will more than likely withhold this gift from you. If you are not willing to go all out for the Lord in this life, then you will be wasting both your time and God’s time by asking for this gift. COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

– DISOBEDIENCE

-

Luk 11:28 But He said, Blessed (happy and to be envied) rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey and practice it!

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Samuel asked Saul this question in1Sa 15:22 (CEV) "Tell me," "Does the LORD really want sacrifices and offerings? No! He doesn't want your sacrifices. He wants you to obey him. (MSG) …. He wants you to listen to him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production. We know that Saul LOST his “ministry”(kingdom) because of disobedience , so we cannot expect to receive something from God if we are disobedient to His commandments. The commandment in Acts 2:38 – 1. Repent, - so you can receive the first gift – Jesus Christ 2. Be Baptised – so you can receive the second gift – The Holy Spirit Act 5:32 And we are witnesses of these things, and the Holy Spirit is also, Whom God has bestowed on those who obey Him. Our relationship with God is all about obedience: By being obedient : 1. We proclaim our Love for Him – Joh 14:15 If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands. Joh 14:24 Anyone who does not [really] love Me does not observe and obey My teaching. And the teaching which you hear and heed is not Mine, but [comes] from the Father Who sent Me.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Lord help me to be more obedient to YOU and your Word and NOT to be a pleaser of men. I proclaim my love for You and your Lordship in my life.

2. We acknowledge His Lordship - Luk 6:46 Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you? 3. We confirm our relationship - 1John 2:4 Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. We have to realise that GOD’s WILL and HIS WORD has the highest authority above all human institutions and church traditions and we have to say like Peter did: Act 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. So if my family, or friends or even church does not allow me to be obedient to the Word, I must make a decision to be more obedient to the Word of God and NOT to be a pleaser of men. Gal 1:10 Obviously, I'm not trying to be a people pleaser! No, I am trying to please God. If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ's servant. Jam 1:22 But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

Day 25

– WRONG

EXPECTATION

Act 2:6 When they heard this sound, they came running to see what it was all about, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. ….Act 2:13 But others in the crowd were mocking. "They're drunk, that's all!" they said. HOW ? When Jesus gave the promise in Acts 1:8, He did not say exactly HOW this is going to manifest and so they had different expectations and therefore a different explanation of what had happened. The same with us , athough there are similarities, there is still an individual difference, how God wil baptize each person in the Spirit. We sometimes expect the Spirit to overpower us and make our tongues, and lips move, but the Bible clearly says.. and “they” (the people) spoke in other tongues.. as the Spirit gave them utterance. It means that the Holy Spirit only give us the “words” , but we are the ones to verbalise them The person should be willing to speak out in faith, and allow the Holy Spirit “to take over” the natural language they are using in their prayers. Sometimes it helps not to speak a natural language, but to just utter the sounds as the Holy Spirit gives it.,this is in order to “disconnect your mind” from trying to influence the initiation of the baptism. The tongues coming from your spirit into your mind and is then verbalised and .

WEDNESDAY ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

The person needs to relax, be humble, and trust God. Speaking in tongues comes from the spirit of the person, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, who overshadows the person’s spirit. 1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. However, the source of the activity is the spirit, not the brain. No one can get their brain(concious mind) to do this…the brain may be affected by it though. (some people faint) . It is not a dream, and is done consciously…. although the person is not controlling the words spoken. Maybe I should re-word some things I say. To “disconnect the brain” is only referring to the moment when you receive the baptism. It just means do not let it be a mental activity, where you force some artificial behavior on yourself. For me, to disconnect the brain really means to stop using your own mind to control the activity, and let God take over and do it correctly. That way, you get the true gift, and not the counterfeit. But of course, we should use our minds, and fill them with the Word of God, so we are not deceived There are churches who “teach” tongues, and people “learn” tongues. There does not need to be a special prayer ( “say after me”) to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Use your own words. Just ask the Father in Jesus name for this. You do not need a recipe. The Father wants to hear from you. If you do not get a prayer language right away, that is ok. Continue in faith. If you need it, the Holy Spirit will give it to you at the proper time.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Father : Thank you for the faith and assurance we have, that we get what we ask in Jeus Name; Help us not to have a wrong expectations, of HOW this should happen, but just allow Your Spirit to take over.

WHERE? Many times, people feel so self conscious with others around, they cannot receive this gift. It is best then, to go and be alone with God, and let Him minister to them without anyone around. Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. WHEN ? There is also a proper timing for things of God, so one should not get discouraged if they ask, and there is a delay. A delay is not a denial. There may be a delay because there is something spiritually blocking the person, such a fear, self conscious feelings, doubt, sin, confusion about what the baptism is, need for acceptance or attention, etc. For anyone, we have unconscious pressures that influence our readiness. 1. We have to examine our motives, and 2. Ignore expectations of others to “do it their way.” 3. Or sometimes, God just wants us to learn patience and wisdom first, so that we use our gift the right way. There can be delays to receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but when God thinks you are ready, and you also know in your heart you are ready, everything will work out fine, and occur in a way that will inspire you. Joh 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) Greek word – “doxazo” - to render (or esteem) glorious : to glorify to be full of (have) glory,to honour, to magnify. That’s why we are most times filled with the Holy Spirit during WORSHIP-SERVICE , it happens when Jesus is being GLORIFIED. For the one who asks, “are the tongues real or fake?” I would say this: Scripture says a good tree produces good fruit. (Matt 7:17) If the tongues are real, the person will be guided by the Holy Spirit, be reverent and humble with their gift, and will not abuse the gift for selfish purposes. Also, if the person has asked sincerely, then they should expect to receive in faith what they asked for. If they, instead, have acquired the tongues by an artificial means, somehow “learning” what to do, or made up something under pressure of others to please them, then the tongues most likely will not be real.

Day 26

– NO FULL SURRENDER

1Thess 5:23 Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. We might be born again, but we have not totally surrendered our lives to Him, and that hinders us from being filled with the Holy Spirit . Once you realize what this gift entails, and that you have to be willing to “fully surrender” to whatever God’s perfect plan and destiny is going to be for your life – then the next step is to take that big leap of faith and “fully surrender” everything over to God the Father. Mar 12:30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' What God wants from you are four things: • your body • your soul • your spirit • your entire life He wants all three parts to your being – body, soul and spirit. God wants to sanctify you completely in all three parts of your being – spirit, soul and body. The fourth thing that God will want from you is your entire life – and this will literally include everything. 1. Surrender to His Lordship We must be like Joshua. “…., choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) Jesus himself said : “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon.” (Matt 6:24) 2. Surrender to His Leadership Furthermore He said: “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” (John 12:26) 3. Surrender All relationships He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matt 10:34) “… whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:33) 4. Surrender ALL works and plans. “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass …” (Psalm 37:4-7) COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

Day 27

– UNCONFESSED SIN

1Cor 6:19 Or don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, Before asking God to allow the gift of the Holy Spirit to be released in you, I feel every Christian should be willing to go through what I call a full cleansing. What this entails is that you simply confess any sins that you may have on you that have not already been confessed and forgiven under the Blood of Jesus.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer - “Father, I now come before You to fully confess my sins of (name each of your sins). I fully admit that what I have done was wrong and sinful in Your sight. Father, in Jesus name, I now ask that you please forgive me and wash away all of my sins by the blood that Your Son Jesus has personally shed for me on the cross. I also ask by the power of the Holy Spirit that you give me the power not to do any of these specific sins ever again. Father, I now believe that I have been fully forgiven and that my sins will no longer be remembered by You., .AMEN

Sometimes we have to “clean house” first, before we can receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit . Your soul is your house. So how do you clean your soul up in order to properly receive His presence up into your soul? By fully confessing every known sin that you have not already confessed yet. You want a “clean slate” in order to really be able to receive Him up into your soul. There are 3 parts to properly do this and they are as follows: 1. Confess all known sin (and bondages) that you still have lingering on you that you know that has not been fully confessed before God the Father to receive His full forgiveness for. 2. Ask the Lord to reveal any hidden sins that you were not fully aware of (like unforgiveness), that really needs to be confessed and washed clean under the Blood of Jesus. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and Give God time to reveal any hidden, secret sins that you may have in you that you may not be aware of. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) Notice that we have to first confess our sins directly to Him before He will forgive us on each of our sins. 3. The next and final step is to then deal with any type of “heavier sin” that you may have been involved in, in your past. Any previous “heavier” sins such as alcohol or drug abuse, any involvement in the occult, a cult or false religion, or any involvement in a homosexual lifestyle – All of these heavier sins have one major thing in common – they are all major door openers to the dark side, to Satan’s realm where he and his demons roam . These types of “heavier sins” must be: a. Confessed – according to 1 Joh 1:8-10 b. Renounced before God the Father. - When you fully renounce something before God the Father, you are telling Him that you will never, ever go back to that activity again. Renouncement will also cut off any and all demon’s legal right to stay attached to you. c. Delivered from – We sometimes have to have people pray over us for deliverance and the casting out of any demonic possession. Any involvement in any occult activities need to be fully confessed and fully renounced before God the Father before attempting to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

SATURDAY

– LACK OF PRAYER

Jam 4:2-3 … You do not have what you want because you do not ask God for it. If you (1) have the right motive, (2)you have been obedient, (3) you have the right expectation, (4)you have fully surrendered and (5) have confessed all sins, then the only thing left to do is simply to go to God the Father in prayer and ask Him to Baptise, fill and empower you with His Holy Spirit. It really is that simple. You do not have to go into any type of major travailing or prevailing trying to get God to release this gift to you. This gift will then be released to you by way of just a simple prayer and request to God the Father. Simply ask God the Father in a simple prayer request and you will then receive this gift from Him. This gift is then accepted by simple faith and belief. Here is a simple, basic way that you can word your prayer to God the Father to receive this most glorious gift. Notice in the prayer that you are agreeing to make a full and complete surrender of your entire life over to Him. “Father, - I believe that I am truly saved and born again. I believe that all of my sins have now been fully forgiven and washed clean under the Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Father, in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, I now ask that you allow the Holy Spirit to enter into my soul. Father, from this moment on, by an act of strong faith and belief, I am going to believe that the Holy Spirit has now entered into my soul – regardless of whether or not I feel anything.

___________________________

Thank you Father. Thank you Jesus.”

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

What completes this prayer request is your faith and belief that God has now granted it. There is now no reason for God to withhold this gift from you and you can now start walking believing that the Holy Spirit has now entered into your soul.

CELLGROUP MATERIAL - WEEK 4 WELCOME: Icebreaker – What incident (funny or sad) stands out most in your mind when you think of your father ? WORSHIP: ( As the Spirit leads) WORD: Luk 11:2 And He said to them, When you pray, say: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, …… 1. How can we Seek to establish a Father-child relationship with God the Father and a best friend relationship with both Jesus and the Holy Spirit? - Read: Luk 11:13 ; Joh 20:17 ; Joh 8:42 ; John 16:13 2. The apostle Paul tells us that we can enter into a personal relationship direct with the Holy Spirit Himself. Here are two good verses giving us this revelation: (DISCUSS ?) 1. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Cor13:14) 2. “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit …” (Philippians 2:1) These two words above –“fellowship and communion” – tell us that we can enter into a personal relationship direct with the Holy Spirit Himself! The word “communion” means to have a direct partnership with someone, to share with someone, to have fellowship with someone. These two words spell one thing – personal relationship! 3. Simply start talking to Him like you would a best friend. He is right there on the inside of you. Make turns in praying to Him as our Friend?______________________________________ 4. Read :Ephesians 5:18-21 "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God." verse 19-21 are results or consequences which come from being "filled with the Spirit." There are three results mentioned: DISCUSS

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

1. speaking to one another and the Lord in song, 1Co 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, ……Read: Ps 96:1.; Ps 98:1 ; Isa 42:10 2. giving thanks to God, - : Ps 106:47 ; Ps 136:2 ; Col 1:3 ; 1 Thess 1:2 ; 1 Thess 5:18 2Thess 2:13 3. submitting to one another. – Heb 13:17 ; 1 Pet 5:5 ; Col 3:18 ; Ephes 5:22; 1 Cor 16:16 So these are three other results that should be added to our list of possible signs of being filled with the Spirit. CONCLUSION: Pray with one another for a relationship of Communion and Fellowship with the Holy Spirit - Phil 2:1-2

___________________________ Through the ages people have always seeked a sign or some proof of the fulfillment of prophesy , 2Ki 20:8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord on the third day? Even in Jesus’s time they were seeking confirmation, signs and proof. 1. JESUS’s REFLECTED ON HIS DEATH (GRAVE) - …. An evil and adulterous generation (a generation morally unfaithful to God) seeks and demands a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. - Mat 12:38-39 2. JESUS REFLECTED ON HIS RESSURECTION - - Jesus answered them, Destroy (undo) this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again. - Joh 2:18-19 3. JESUS REFLECTED ON HIS WORK- AS PROOF - … for the works that the Father has appointed Me to accomplish and finish, the very same works that I am now doing, are a witness and proof that the Father has sent Me. Joh 5:35-36 4. JESUS’s LIFE – the TRUE BREAD FROM HEAVEN …. Jesus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven [what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven], but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread. Joh 6:30-32 5. JESUS WARNED US NOT TO BE DECEIVED BY THE WRONG SIGNS Mat 24:3-5 …. what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end (the completion, the consummation) of the age? Jesus answered them, Be careful that no one misleads you …….. For many will come in My name [appropriating the name which belongs to Me], saying, I am the Christ (the Messiah), and they will lead many astray. PEOPLE OF FAITH SHOULD NOT BE SEEKING SIGNS or PROOF of the promises of GOD The Hebrew writer states in Heb 11:1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Paul writes in 2Co 5:7 For we walk by faith and not by sight or appearance. BUT GOD IN HIS GRACE IS WILLING TO GIVE US PROOF of His promises .... Paul writes - 1Co 2:4 And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me], 2Co 13:3 Since you desire and seek [perceptible] proof of the Christ Who speaks in and through me. [For He] is not weak and feeble in dealing with you, but is a mighty power within you;

Day 29

– SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Here we must clearly state that we believe the speaking in tongues is NOT the ONLY sign (proof) that people have been filled with the Holy Spirit but there is overwelming proof that it was and still is the first initial evidence of receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

___________________________ Speaking in tongues can be described as …. A SPONTANEOUS UTTERANCE OF WORDS INSPIRED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT by using the normal voice organs. ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Jesus himself said in Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Where-ever people were filled with the Holy Spirit , either EXPLICITLY or IMPLICITY , the speaking of tongues were involved. 1. EXPLICITLY: These SIGNS that MARK 16:17 talks about was manifested on the following occasions: 1. Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 2. Acts 10:45-46 - And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 3. Acts 19:6 - Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. 2. BY IMPLICATION ; 1. Paul – I speak more in tongues than you all… implies that Paul must have received this gift when Ananias laid hands on him – Acts 9:17 2. Acts 8 IMPLIES - SIMON the sourceror- must have SEEN or HEARD something that made him want to BUY TE GIFT We find 3 different manifestations of tongues: 1. As an private prayer or song (not understood by yourself or any other) 1Co 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Cor 14:14 …. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. (KJV) Also Read: Rom 8:26-27 2. As a prayer /song/message , not understood by any, but when interpreted it edifies the congregation 1Co 14:13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 1Co 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 3. As a prayer/song or message mabe not understood by the self, but definitely understood by others... Act 2:8 "And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

Day 30

– 10 REASONS WHY I SHOULD SPEAK IN TONGUES ?

Here follows 10 reasons why I should be filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in other tongues: 1. INTIMATE and PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD: 1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (KJV)

MONDAY ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Only God knows what we are saying and the words are Spirit given, Spirit filled and we are praying GOD’s WILL. 2. EDIFING YOURSELF: 1 Cor14:4 - He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. He that speaks in tongues edifies and builds himself(See more Day 31)

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

3. BUILDING YOURSELF IN FAITH Jude :20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (KJV)

___________________________

4. THE CHURCH FUNCTIONING AS A BODY

___________________________

1 Cor 14:5 - I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: ….., except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. (KJV) 1Co 14:26 This is what I mean, my friends. When you meet for worship, one person has a hymn, another a teaching, another a revelation from God, another a message in strange tongues, and still another the explanation of what is said. Everything must be of help to the church. (GNB) 5. THE DEVIL CANNOT COUNTER MY PRAYER, 1 Cor 14:2….speaketh mysteries to God….. We read in Dan 10:12-13 Daniel, don't be afraid! God has listened to your prayers since the first day you humbly asked for understanding, and he has sent me here. … But the guardian angel of Persia opposed me for twentyone days. Then Michael, who is one of the strongest guardian angels, came to rescue me from the kings of Persia.

6. WAY OF INTERSESSION / HELP TO MY PRAYERLIFE : Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (KJV)

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

1 Kor 14:14- For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. (KJV) 7. TONGUES AS A WAY OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP Acts 2:11 …., we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. (KJV) Acts 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. …, (KJV) 1 Cor 14:15 - What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (KJV) 8. MY TONGUES CAN BRING OTHERS TO REPENTANCE – 1 Cor 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. (KJV) Act 2:11 Cretans and Arabians too--we all hear them speaking in our own native tongues [and telling of] the mighty works of God! Act 2:12 And all were beside themselves with amazement and were puzzled and bewildered, saying one to another, What can this mean? 9. SPIRITUAL WARFARE: - There is overwhelming proof that where people were speaking in tongues, their own breakthrough came sooner, or where demons were exorcised , they left earlier Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (KJV) 10. Tongues, creates an ATMOSPHERE where God can dwell, work and manifest His glory. Furthermore , tongues is a perceptible indication that the Spirit dwells in me and controls my life , it is asure confirmation that Jesus is really raised from the tomb, and seated at the right hand of the father (Acts 2:33) , and it is also a confirmation of the prophesy in Isa 28:11-12 So, the Lord will speak to his people in strange sounds and foreign languages. He promised you perfect peace and rest, but you refused to listen.

Day 31

– BUILDING THE HOUSE

TUESDAY

1Co 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. AMPL – 1Co 14:4 He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness]. GREEK – “oikodomeo” - to be a house builder, to construct , to confirm: - to build ,to edify, to embolden. We first have to build up ourselves (My Body, Soul and Spirit), before we can build up the Church (GOD’s FAMILY): 1Co 14:2 For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding]

Many people think, “building themselves up, is hard work ___________________________

This is why Jesus told His disciples to go in private and PRAY FIRST… Mat 6:6 But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open. Even Jesus withdrew himself to spend time with the Father and to build himself up before ministering and performing miracles. Matt 4:12 ; Matt 14:13 ; Luk 5:16 ; Luk 22:41 Even when I don’t know what to pray with my mind, I pray in tongues and the Spirit prays for me Rom 8:26 So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. The Bible encourages our “building up” Jud 1:20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit;

___________________________

When we are built up and strong in the Lord, the we can encourage, edify and build up others: 1Co 14:3 But [on the other hand], the one who prophesies [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching] speaks to men for their upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress and encouragement and consolation. When we are “IN THE SPIRIT” we have more value to the church , otherwise we will be operating in the flesh that can do more damage than good. THEREFORE BE BUILT-UP at all times.

Day 32 –MY CONFESSION AS PROOF

___________________________

1Jo 4:2-3 By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source];

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Father I confess today that I believe Jesus is the Son of God who came in the flesh , He is the Christ, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, He is the Resurrection and the Life Lord help me to stand firm in my confession. Amen

WHAT WE HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE and confess: 1. Jesus’ has Come IN THE FLESH - Matt 1:18 ; Matt 2:1 ; 1Jo 4:3 And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God [does not proceed from Him]. This [non - confession] is the [spirit] of the antichrist, [of] which you heard that it was coming, and now it is already in the world. Read: 2 Joh 1:7 ; 2. Jesus is the CHRIST – the Anointed One Joh 20:31 But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is]. [Ps. 2:7, 2:12.] - Matt 1:16; 1 Joh 5:1 ; 1 Joh 2:22 3. Jesus was RESURRECTED Rom 10:9 Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. ….Jesus Himself said “ I AM the Ressurection and the Life - Joh 11:25 WHY WE MUST BELIEVE IN HIS RESSURECTION : 1. 1Co 15:13 -14 - But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen; And if Christ has not risen, : A. then our preaching is in vain [it amounts to nothing] B. and your faith is devoid of truth and is fruitless (without effect, empty, imaginary, and unfounded). 2. Acts 13:33…Christ resurrection a fulfillment of Ps 2:7 … 3. The resurrection proved (declared, designated) Jesus to be the Son of God in power - . Rom 1:4 4. That (we) may (get to) know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Phi 3:10 5. We have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, - 1Pe 1:3 6. We are provided with a good and clear conscience (inward cleanness and peace) before God through (the baptism and) the resurrection of Jesus Christ. -1Pe 3:21 7. And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you. – HOLY SPIRIT as SEAL

___________________________

2 Cor. 1:21- He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God ,who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee."

___________________________ ___________________________

WE ARE SEALED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT of promise - Ep 1:13;

___________________________ The word "seal" (Greek:“sphragizo”) - "mark (with a seal) as a means of identification ; so that the mark which denotes ownership also carries with it the protection of the owner 2. "The word "seal" is used in several important senses" a. "A seal authenticates a document and proves its genuineness (e.g., notary public seal or seal of an official on a document)" (AMP) [He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us ……..confirming that we are FROM HIM. b. "It is a mark of ownership (e.g., seals on ancient jars, brands on animals)"…. (GNB) who has placed his mark of ownership upon us,….confirming WE BELONG TO HIM …we are HIS. c. "It is a mark of security (e.g., railroad cars closed and sealed; medicine bottles)" …. (BBE) And it is He who has put his stamp on us, …..Message - 2Co 1:22 By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge-THIS MEANS that God has thoroughly examined and inspected you to make sure that you were fully intact and complete. Because He found nothing in you broken, defective, or faulty, God put His seal upon you — the ultimate proof that He found you to be impeccable. That seal meant you were approved, endorsed, recognized, affirmed, sanctified, and notarized by the Spirit of God. 3. "It is our conviction that when a person obeys the gospel he is given the Holy Spirit. In this way God seals the person." Eph. 4:3 -And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Eph. 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise," This might even be a indication of the sealing taking place in : Rev 7:3 - Saying, Harm neither the earth nor the sea nor the trees, until we have sealed the bond servants of our God upon their foreheads. [Ezek. 9:4.]

Forgive me for those times when I speak badly of myself, judge and condemn myself, or put myself down in front of others. I should be proud of and thankful for who I am, because the blood of Jesus has cleansed and redeemed me. You were so convinced that I was free of defects that You sealed me with Your Spirit, giving me Your ultimate seal of approval. Help me appreciate the great work You have done inside me! I pray this in Jesus' name!

Day 34 HOLY SPIRIT as DEPOSIT 2 Cor. 1:21- - He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God ,who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee." Furthermore the Spirit serves as His guarantee to us , THAT GOD WILL MAKE SURE that we are going to make it to our final destination, and the Spirit serves as “deposit ; downpayment , sign and guarantee of ALL THAT GOD HAS promised to give us in heaven." i) God has given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that He has in store for us. (NIV) 1Cor 2:9 …. What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed]. [Isa. 64:4; Isa 65:17.] ii) God has given us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as ..the guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise]. AMPL …. 2Cor 1:20 For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God. Jesus’s promise in Joh 14:2-3 In My Father's house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you. And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also. iii) God has given us... the Spirit, as the sign in our hearts of the coming glory. (BBE) Read: Is 66:18 ; Luk 21:27 ; Dan. 7:13, 14 ; Matt 24:30 ; iv) God also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. (HNV) That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it--to the praise of His glory. Eph 1:14 KJV - the earnest of our inheritance GREEK – “arrhabon” - a pledge, money given advance as security for the rest: - earnest. ; downpayment; deposit v) By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what He is destined to complete.2Co 1:22 Mess Paul writes in Phi 1:6 : And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

CELLGROUP MATERIAL – WEEK 5 WELCOME: WORSHIP: WORD 1. What to you, was the highlight of the past week’s material, and why ? _____________________ 2. Have you discovered your ministry yet ; What gifts have you recognised to flow through you. 3. VERY SOON WE WILL BE CELEBRATING THE ASCENSION of JESUS. Read: Acts 1:9-11. LETS LOOK AT THE IMPLICATIONS

• The Ascension Made The Lord’s Purposes Clear –Jesus came to save sinners and not sit upon and earthly throne. • The Ascension Made The Lord’s Presence Real –the door was opened for the Spirit of God to descend to the earth, John 16:7. Not only could the Spirit be with and in all at the same time; but He could work through all the saints at the same time, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Jesus in John 14:12. • The Ascension Made The Lord’s Plan Understandable – God’s plan of salvation involves all three members of the Godhead. The Father sent the Son. The Son gave His life and shed His blood on the cross. The Spirit was sent to take that message and apply it to the hearts of men, John 16:7-11. • The Ascension Made The Lord’s Payment Complete – The work of the Son was not completely finished until the Son had ascended back to Heaven and sat down in glory, Heb. 10:11-17. A FEW TRUTHS CONCERNING THE PLACE JESUS OCCUPIES: A. He Is The Crucified One - John 20:27; Rev. 5:6; Zech. 13:6. Heb. 10:12-13; Heb. 9:11-14. B. He Is The Conquering One - Col. 2:13-15. Eph. 4:8 C. I. THE PRESENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE BIBLE" A.

IN THE OLD TESTAMENT...

Right from the beginning the Holy Spirit’s presence was evident and prominent - Gen 1:1-2 IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. The O.T. mentions the Holy Spirit 88 times ; 23 books in the O.T. refer to the Holy Spirit, Although the actual expression "Holy Spirit" is used only 3 times - e.g., Ps 51:11 Other expressions referring to the Spirit are used (e.g., "the Spirit of God") - Gen 1:2

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

B. IN THE NEW TESTAMENT... The N.T. mentions the Holy Spirit 264 times ; 60 or more references in the gospels of which Acts has 57 references (which is why some call it "The Acts Of The Holy Spirit") The epistles refer to the Holy Spirit 132 times but 3 epistles makes no mention of the Spirit (Philemon, 2 & 3 John)

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

II. THE PRESENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE LIFE OF CHRIST" A. HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIRTH OF JESUS... 1. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary Matt 1:20; Luk 1:30-35 2. Various individuals were filled with the Spirit to make pronouncements about His birth a. Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist - Luk 1:41-42 b. Zacharias, father of John the Baptist - Luk 1:67-79 c. Simeon, who saw the infant Jesus when presented in the Temple - Luk 2:25-35

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

B. AT THE BAPTISM BY JOHN... 1. Descended in bodily form like a dove - Luk 3:21-22 2. Even "alighting upon Him" - Matt 3:16

___________________________

C. DURING THE TEMPTATIONS IN THE WILDERNESS... 1. Jesus was "filled with the Holy Spirit" - Luk 4:1 2. He was "led by the Spirit" into the wilderness - Luk 4:1; Mt 4:1

___________________________

D. HIS POWER DURING JESUS' MINISTRY... 1. Jesus returned from His temptations "in the power of the Spirit" to teach in the synagogues - Luk 4:14-15 2. He applied Isaiah's prophecy to Himself, which said "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me..." - Luk 4:16-21 3. Jesus "rejoiced in the Spirit" - Luk 10:21 4. Jesus healed the sick and cast out demons by the power of the Holy Spirit - Matt 12:28

– INDWELLING OF

THE SPIRIT

Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is God the Holy Spirit taking up permanent residence in our lives and together we form the church as a dwelling place of God in the Spirit - Eph 2:21-22 The promise by Jesus in Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Through Christ we are made “sons of God” - And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. - Gal 4:6

___________________________

Rom 8:9-11- But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Greek = “oikeo” - to occupy a house that is, reside (to inhabit, to remain, to cohabit: - to dwell.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE INDWELLING OF THE SPIRIT :

___________________________

1. We must realize we (our hearts, soul and body) BELONG to HIM –- We are not our own (1 Cor 6:19) 2. We are bought with a price: therefore (we must) glorify God in our body, and in our spirit, which are God's.1Cor 6:19-20 3. The body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 4. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in us, He shall also quicken our mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in us. - Rom 8:10-11 5. Our bodies are the TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit – that’s why we may NOT defile the temple of God, ….. 1Cor 3:16-17 6. We are of God [we belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in me is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world. - 1Jo 4:4 AMPL 7. God strengthens us by "His Spirit in the inner man" - Ep 3:16 8. God is at work in us as we work out our salvation - Php 2: 12-13; 4:13 9. With the Spirit as His instrumental agent, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" - Ep 3:20 10. Because of the indwelling of the Spirit, we have the FRUIT of the Spirit ; we are being SANCTIFIED by the Spirit , We are being TRANSFORMED by the Spirit ; We are LEAD by the Spirit, We are BUILT UP by the Spirit; We are LIVING in the Spirit, we are enabled to WALK in the SPIRIT , We have the MINISTRY of the SPIRIT etc…

TUESDAY – SANCTIFICATION by the SPIRIT

1Cor 6:11- And such some of you were [once]. But you were (1)washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and (2)you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and (3)you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God. A. OUR INITIAL SANCTIFICATION...we were

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

1. WASHED CLEAN - Our Initial sanctification began at rebirth – through the working of the Holy Spirit and the Blood of Jesus Christ. - 1Co 6:11 … But you were washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of (past) sin); (Read 1 Joh 1:7-9);

___________________________

2. SET APART - Sanctification involves the idea of being made HOLY which means "to be set apart", "to be consecrated" ; Heb 10:10 And in accordance with this will [of God], we have been made holy (consecrated and sanctified) through the offering made once for all of the body of Jesus Christ (the Anointed One). Heb 10:14 For by a single offering He has forever completely cleansed and perfected those who are consecrated and made holy.

___________________________

3. JUSTIFIED - "Sanctification also involves the Justification by the Spirit of our God" - Rom 3:24 [All] are justified and “made upright and in right standing with God”, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,

___________________________

B. OUR ONGOING SANCTIFICATION... 1. Sanctification is an ongoing work - cf. Heb 2:11; Heb 10:14 Not in the sense of needing redemption - Heb 10:10 but in the sense of living holy lives - cf. 1Thess 4:3-4; 1 Thess 5:23 2. The Spirit plays an important role in living holy lives a. It is with the help of the Spirit that we put to death the deeds of the body - Rom 8:11-13; cf. Col 3:5-9 …and flee sexual immorality - 1Cor 6:18-19 b. We manage to "walk in the Spirit" and be "led by the Spirit" – and NOT gratify the cravings of the flesh. - Gal 5:16-18 c. The Church consists of them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, (1Co 1:2) by the Holy Ghost. (Rom 15:16)..His firstfruits …. through the sanctifying work of the [Holy] Spirit (2Th 2:13) d. "We are like living stones, built [into] a spiritual house, for a holy (dedicated, consecrated) priesthood, to offer up [those] spiritual sacrifices [that are] acceptable and pleasing to God through Jesus Christ. (1Pe 2:5), e. We are made to be vessels unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, prepared unto every good work.- 2Tim 2:20 COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

A. INTRODUCTION 1. This word TRANSFORMED is used to describe a change of form (e.g., when a caterpillar becomes a butterfly) Greek word = “metamorphoo” - to transfigure , to transform , to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure 2. In the NT, this word “metamorphoo”is used to describe: a. What happened to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration - Matt 17:1-2 b. What is to happen to Christians in their service to God - Ro 12:1-2 B. THE CONCEPT... 1. We don’t allow ourselves to be “conformed” , (to be fashioned after and adapted to the world’s external, superficial customs” ) but we allow ourselves to undergo a complete change, which under the power of God, will find expression in character and conduct" I.e., we who are "caterpillars" are to become "butterflies" 2. We submit to Holy Spirit’s power and God’s grace... 1) We are being renewed in our minds (and mindsets) 2) We become a "new creation" - 2Co 5:17 THE GOAL OF TRANSFORMATION A. TO BECOME LIKE CHRIST... 1. As expressed by Paul - 2Co 3:18 2. As predestined by God - Rom 8:29 3. The purpose of being a disciple (to become like his teacher) - Luke 6:40 4. The goal of Christian living - cf. Col 3:9-10 B. TO LIVE LIKE CHRIST... 1. To present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to God (Rom 12:1) as Jesus set the example - cf. Heb 10:5 2. Day 40 – TRANSFORMATION ( Cont) Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind. THE MOTIVATION FOR TRANSFORMATION Where THE MERCIES of GOD is our first motivation , our second motivation is …. B. THE LOVE OF CHRIST... 1. We are controlled , moved, urged on and impelled by the love of Christ - 2Co 5:14-15 ; just as Jesus Loved us and gave Himself for us. - - cf. Gal 2:20 – The love of Christ move us to live FOR Him and LOVE LIKE Him?

THURSDAY ___________________________ ___________________________ TODAY IS ASCENSION DAY ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

C. THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE... 1. To be conformed (suschematizo) - which is " a transitory, a changeable, an unstable" change making us an imitation, a cheap copy 2. If not transformed, we will either be conformed to... a. The world - Being like and Acting like the world, - bringing shame to the name of Christ. b. Other Christians - Outwardly appearing like and acting like Christians, but being just a cheap "copy", which eventually reveals its true nature! - To be "superficial and plastic" Christians!!

IV. THE PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION

___________________________

1. The process of transformation involves the renewing of the mind. a. As indicated in our text - Rom 12:2; also Ep 4:20-24 b. Unless there is a renewing of the mind, any change in our lives will be superficial. 2. Renewing the mind is made possible by where we set our minds a. Setting our minds on things above - Col 3:1-2 b. Setting our minds on the things of the Spirit - Rom 8:5 3. We can experience a true transformation! a. By putting off the old man and putting on the new man - Col 3:2, Col 3:5-10 b. By living according to the Spirit - Rom 8:5,13 4. The process of transformation is really quite simple a. Set your minds on things above in order to renew your mind; for example - Acts 2:42 1) To Meditate and contemplate on God and His Word 2) To Keep your mind in communication with God via prayer 3) Involve your mind in spiritual worship via frequent assembling with others 4) Center your mind on Jesus via the Lord's Supper and your mind will gradually be renewed! 5) Modern studies in self-improvement confirm this truth a. We become what we think. – Prov 23:7 b. Therefore have to be keep and guard our hearts - Prov 4:23 b. We can change attitudes and behavior by filling our mind with positive mental images. - -- In our efforts, we are not alone; God is at work with us! - Php 1:6; 2:12-13

– POWER

TO LIVE IN THE SPIRIT

Gal 5:16-17 - So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. ....For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit (desires) what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. (NIV) Gal 5:25 If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, …. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, …… Greek word – “zao” - 1) to live, to breathe, be among the living (not lifeless, not dead) ; 2) to enjoy real life ; to be in full vigour ; to be active, blessed, ; 3) living water, having vital power in itself and exerting the same upon the soul Eze 37:14 And I shall put My Spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD. Hebrew – “chayah” to live, to revive: keep (leave, make) alive, give (promise) life, (let, suffer to) live, nourish up, preserve (alive), quicken, recover, repair, restore (to life), be whole. 1. LIFE STARTED WHEN WE ACCEPTED CHRIST Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: Joh 11:25 2. A LIFE OF FAITH THROUGH THE SPIRIT I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal 2:20 But the just shall live by faith … Heb 10:38 ; Rom 1:17 Know and understand that it is [really] the people [who live] by faith who are [the true] sons of Abraham. - Gal 3:7 3. A LIFE UNDER GRACE and NOT THE LAW Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. The law of sin and death would have condemned us and killed us, but the Law of the Spirit of life has given us grace and righteousness Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT CONFIRMS THIS LIFE By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we abide (live and remain) in Him and He in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit. 1Jo 4:13 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. - Rom 8:16

5. LIFE ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT 1Pe 4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. a. HIS INSTRUCTION Jesus said, "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life" (Joh 6:63). b. HIS DESIRE THE WRONG DESIRE: For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, …. Rom 8:5 …… Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. Rom 8:6 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, ...... those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom (rulership of Christ through His Spirit) of God. - Efes 5:19 In the Lord's name, then, I warn you: do not continue to live like the heathen, whose thoughts are worthless ; and whose minds are in the dark. They have no part in the life that God gives, for they are completely ignorant and stubborn. Eph 4:17-18 THE RIGHT DESIRE Rom 8:5(b) …. but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.

4 ATTRIBUTES OF LIVING IN THE SPIRIT…but those who :

___________________________

(1) ….are according to the Spirit - it is What I am, a state of being. (2) are controlled by the desires of the Spirit - Under His guidance, leadership, management and control. But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. - Rom 8:9 (3) (who have) set their minds on (the Spirit)… - I must think about the things of the Spirit…(because)… the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. Rom 8:6(b)…..And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. Col 3:2 and (4) seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit. – My desires, and what I seek must be to gratify His desires. IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [Ps. 110:1.] Col 3:1 WE NOW HAVE BEEN MADE ….. able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. -2Co 3:6

5. WALKING ACCORDING TO HIS NATURE a. Not according to the world - And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (KJV) Eph 2:1-2

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

For all that is in the world— 1. the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] 2. and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] 3. and the pride of life [assurance in one's own resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself]. 1Jo 2:16 And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever. 1Jo 2:17

b. Not according to the flesh Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. ….. Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Eph 2:10 For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (MSG) Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives.

TUESDAY

Day 45 - POWER TO WITNESS

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Greek—“martus” = a witness - by analogy a “martyr”: - to give record, to witness. Stephen was the first “marthyr “ for Jesus - Act 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. We have to ask ourselves the question “ ARE WE WILLING TO DIE FOR WHAT/WHOM WE BELIEVE IN.?” Like the Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Dan 3:1-18 - If our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up. JESUS SAID THE FOLLOWING: Luk 6:38 Give away your life; you'll find life given back, but not merely given back--given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity." Luk 17:33 If you grasp and cling to life on your terms, you'll lose it, but if you let that life go, you'll get life on God's terms.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Lord give me the Power to be a witness, and not be ashamed to proclaim that I am a Christian, may my life bring more and more people to you.

PAUL’S TESTIMONY: Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.. Act 10:39-41 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. TWO ASPECTS OF OUR WITNESSING : 1. PREACHING – We have been commanded to preach the Gospel – Is 61:1 ; Luk 4:18 ; Mark 16:15 ; Rom 1:1 2. TESTIFYING – Your testimony is the biggest evangelism tool to reach others ; To tell others what God has done for YOU personally. – Acts 2:40 ; 1Joh 4:14 Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

– POWER TO PERFECT

AMPL - Eph 4:11 And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. His intention was the (1)perfecting and the (2) full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church), This is the Power of the offices of the 5 FOLD MINISTRY = NLT - Eph 4:11 He (God) is the one who gave these gifts to the church: (AND).. Their responsibility is to (PERFECT) and “EQUIP” God's people to do HIS work and build up the church, the body of Christ, 1. PERFECTING Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. GREEK – “teleios”-to be complete , full growth (maturity), to become of full age, complete in mental and moral character, completeness: - a perfect man The proof of the Spirit in our lives is that we can help one another : 1. TO SHORT or LACK NOTHING Jam 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Patience is one of the fruit of the Spirit which lacks in most of us, specially when waiting on God’s promises ; and when we face trials and temptations we do not know how to handle, it. HERE WE CAN HELP ONE ANOTHER….IN THE “HOW TO” 2. TO BE FULL OF THE WORD OF GOD 2Ti 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 3. To ATTAIN OUR FULL POTENTIAL IN CHRIST Even Paul knows it is an on goung process that we must help each other with , he writes in Phi 3:12 Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. For because of Him (Jesus) the whole body (the church, in all its various parts), (is) closely joined and firmly knit together by the joints and ligaments with which it is supplied, (and) when each part [with power from the Holy Spirit] is (perfect) working properly [in all its functions], (it) grows to full maturity, (and is) building itself up in love. 4. TO HAVE and LIVE IN LOVE and PEACE Paul writes in 2Co 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. …. (just do it in the power that the Holy Spirit gives you ….and He will be with you and help you) Peter writes to the church 1Pe 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, (He is busy and will ) make you perfect (what you ought to be), stablish, strengthen, settle you. We must not fear , but rather (grow perfect in love) No man has at any time [yet] seen God. But if we love one another, God abides (lives and remains) in us and His love (that love which is essentially His) is brought to completion (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us! - 1Jo 4:12 1Jo 4:18 -There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but fullgrown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love's complete perfection]. Because God has not given us a spirit of fear ,But of love, power and a sound mind – 2 Tim 1:7 5. To GIVE EACH OTHER WISE COUNSEL Job 12:13 But [only] with [God] are [perfect] wisdom and might; He [alone] has [true] counsel and understanding. But God choose to use us, to minister to one another Col 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 6. TO HELP EACH OTHER BE FULL OF FAITH 1Th 3:10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith? Faith without works are dead – Abraham set an example: Jam 2:22 You see, he (Abraham) was trusting God so much that he was willing to do whatever God told him to do. His faith was made complete (perfect) by what he did-by his actions. 7. Helping each other TO BE A GOD PLEASER Heb 13:20-21 Now (may) the God of peace, …Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Paul writes in Phi 4:18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received … a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. 2. TO HELP US TO EXERCISE SELF CONTROL - Jam 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. (1 Cor 7:7-9 ; Gal 5:23 ;1 Tim 2:15 ; 2 Tim 1:7 ; 2 Pet 1:6)

THURSDAY

Eph 4:11-12 …..His intention was (1) the perfecting and (2) the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church), The 2nd purpose of these "gifts" () are: a. "for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry" b. "for the edifying (build up) of the body of Christ" GNB - Eph 4:12 He did this to prepare all God's people for the work of Christian service, in order to build up the body of Christ.

Ephes 2:19-22… describes us to be (1) citizens along with all of God's holy people. (2) members of God's family. (3) His house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 1Co 3:9-11 describes the church(God’s people) to be God's field, God's building-not ours. Of which someone (like Paul) Because of God's special ..has laid the foundation like an expert builder. (and) Now others (people with ministries) are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. A. JESUS said - "I WILL MY BUILD MY CHURCH"... 1. Jesus made His promise in Mt 16:18 and this promise pertains NOT only to the "establishment" of the church we have good reason to believe that Jesus is still building His church 2. As the "head" of the body, the church (Ep 1:22,23), we should not be surprised to see that He is very much involved in the "expansion" of the church! B. EXAMPLES OF THIS 1. Jesus said (his disciples) (and we) will receive power to be His witnesses – Acts 1:8 2. The Lord waited until thousands were gathered in Jerusalem to pour out the Spirit and let Peter preach the first gospel sermon Ac 2 and 3000 souls were saved. 2. Philip was sent toward Gaza where he would meet the Ethiopianeunuch - Ac 8:26-28 3. The Lord saw to it that Saul and Ananias would get together Ac 9:10-18 4. Likewise, it was the Lord who saw to it that Cornelius would have an opportunity to hear the gospel from Peter - Ac 10 5. The evangelisation of Europe (beginning with the conversion of Lydia and the Philippian jailor) occurred after the "Macedonian Call" led Paul and his companions in that direction - Ac 16 6. In fact, in nearly every example of conversion recorded in the book of Acts, the Lord worked in some way to create the opportunity for the person to hear the gospel. That’s the reason why God is into "Equipping The Saints For Ministry", because NOT only must the church grow numerically , but the church has to grow in MATURITY.

1. EQUIPING THE SAINTS Heb 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace …Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; ……. We have to help each member: 1. To discover their gifts (See DAY 35) 1 Cor 12:8-10; 1 Cor 12:28; Rom 12:3-8 ; Eph 4:8-14

Acts 7:60; 1 Cor 7:7 -8 ; Psalm 150:3-5 ; 1 Pet 4:9 ; Exodus 31:3 Each member has to realize that they were all called for a ministry. 2. To stir up their gifts Paul reminds Timothy … to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you ……2Ti 1:6

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], ….Heb 10:24-25 WHY MUST WE EQUIP ONE ANOTHER - Eph 4:13 [That “CHRIST’s BODY” might develop] until we all : 1. Attain oneness in the faith… 2. (we grow) in the comprehension of the [full and accurate] knowledge of the Son of God, 3. that [we might arrive] at really mature manhood (the completeness of personality which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ's own perfection), 4. (that we all attain)the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Christ and the completeness found in Him. Therefore we have to : 1) "Remind eachother...to be ready for every good work" - Tit 3:1 2) "...affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works." - Tit 3:8 3) " learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that(we) may not be unfruitful." - Tit 3:14 4)I have a responsibility to"fulfill my ministry", but I must also give thought to how I can contribute toward "equipping the other saints for ministry" 2. EDIFYING/BUILDING THE CHURCH 1Th 5:11 Therefore encourage (admonish, exhort) one another and edify (strengthen and build up) one another, just as you are doing. Rom 15:2 Let each one of us make it a practice to please (make happy) his neighbor for his good and for his true welfare, to edify him [to strengthen him and build him up spiritually]. Rom 14:19 So let us then definitely aim for and eagerly pursue what makes for harmony and for mutual upbuilding (edification and development) of one another. For his purpose we have received the Power of the Holy Spirit as well as the WORD OF GOD – 2 Tim 3:16-17 COASTLAND REVIVAL CENTRE

Day 48

– DEMONSTRATION

OF POWER

1Cor 2:4 And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Jam 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: …. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ Prayer : Thank you father for the Power of God in our lives and that we do not have to impress people by using fancy words, but that we can confirm your word by the demonstration of your “dunamis” miracle working power.

If the Spirit in the OLD TESTAMENT came over God’s anointed, with a demonstration of Power, like … MOSES …Parted red sea - Ex 14:22; made water sweet -Ex15:25; let water flow from a rock- Num 20:11 etc ELIJAH – Miracle of meal and oil ; 1 Kings 17:16 - Raised boy from the dead – 1 Kings 17:22 – Prayed Fire on Altar – 1 Kings 18:37 ELISHA – Parted water - 2 Ki 2:14 ; Healed waters – 2 Ki 2:22 ; Valley filled with water – 2 Ki 3:20 ; Raised child from the dead 2 Ki 4:35 ; Healed Naaman – 2 Ki 5:14 How much more should WE NOT demonstrate God’s Power since we have the Spirit of God IN US (PERMANENTLY) The promise to us is ; “I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh” (Acts 2:17). …. “all flesh” is limited to all believers who call upon the name of the Lord. 1Cor 4:20 teaches us - For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. Mar 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; 1. In my name shall they cast out devils; - Matt 9:33; Mark 1:34 ; Mark 7:26; Matt 10:8 ; Mark 3:14-15; Luk 11:20 ; 2. they shall speak with new tongues; - As we have already seen in Acts 2; Acts 10:46 ; Acts 19:6 3. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; - Like what happened to Paul in Act 28:3-6 ….. They kept expecting him to drop dead, but when it was obvious he wasn't going to, they jumped to the conclusion that he was a god! 4. they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Demonstration of Power by the Apostles – (Acts 3:6 ) Peter and John ; (Acts 5:16 ) Peter (Acts 6:8) - Stephen, (Acts 8:6-13 ) Philip (Acts 14;9 ; Acts 19:11; Acts 20:10 ; Acts 28:8 ) Paul: We have received the gifts - “AND GOD GAVE “…To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (1Cor 12:10) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (1Co 12:28) God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (Heb 2:4) THE CHURCH IS SUPPOSED TO BE A POWER DEMONSTRATING GATHERING OF PEOPLE

Day 49

– POWER OF

AUTHORITY

Mat 28:18 Jesus approached and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Peter confirms this: To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever. Amen (so be it). 1Pe 5:11 But Jesus spoke to His disciples and today speaks to us saying : Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you. Luk 10:19 God has given the believer authority and victory in both the natural and spiritual realm. Notice what it says in Ephes 1:19-23, And [so that you can know and understand] “What is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us that believe” (1:19); “Far above all principality, and power, and might and dominion, and every name that is named” (1:21); “And hath put all things under His feet” (1:22). God gave all that authority to His body, the church (1:22-23. We are seated in heavenly places with Him (2:6), where he is head over all things (1:22-23). AUTHORITY DEFINED Authority, Greek – “exousia” = privilege; force, capacity, competency, freedom, magistrate, delegated influence: authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength. Its value depends upon the force behind the user. Like a traffic officer than can bring a 10 ton truck to standstill, not in his own (dunamis) power, but in the (exousia) might and authority given to him by the Government. The Believer, who is fully conscious of divine Power behind him, and of his own authority thereby, can face the enemy without fear or hesitation. Those who confront him bear the specific names of power and authority: "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities (“archas”, the first or preeminent ones), against powers (“exousias”, the authorities)." (Ephes 6:12) .But, behind the "authority" possessed by the believer, there is a "Power" infinitely greater than that which backs his enemies, and which they are compelled to recognise. We see examples of this authority:

To see who you are — and what you have in Jesus. Here are some areas Christians should exercise authority over: A.Life and prosperity - John10:10; Deut 30:15 & 19; 3 John 2; Jer 29:11). Jesus came that we might experience life more abundantly than we ever could outside of Him. This has to do with every area of our life – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and materially.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

B. Health and wholeness - (Is 53:3-5; Ps 103:1-5; Rom 8:11). “By His stripes we are healed” ; The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is about to bring life to our physical body. C. Finances - (2 Cor 9:6-8; Mal. 3:8-10; Phil. 4:18-19; Deut 8:1120). “It is He who gives you the power to make wealth” (Deut 8:18 BUT We cannot expect God to bless and meet our needs if we are not willing to first be faithful in our giving. D. Salvation of our family and loved ones - Acts 2:38-39; 16:31; Is. 59:21. Lets trust God that He can even reach “those that are afar off” (Acts 2:39).

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

E. Growth of the church body (Isaiah 43:5-7; Acts 2:39; Ephesians 4:16; Acts 2:47). He has “ordained us that we should go and bring forth fruit (multiply) and that our fruit should remain” (John 15:16). Notice, we have to go in order to multiply. F. Peace and joy (John 14:27; 16:33; Eph 2:14; Is. 26:3; Phil. 4:6-7; John 16:23-4; Is. 35:10; 52:9; 60:5; 1 John 1:4). God wants to give you peace and joy even when these things aren’t a reality in your life. There are times when we have to “break forth into joy” (Isaiah 52:9), even when there is nothing to be joyful about. Implementing Our Authority as Believers, from the spiritual (heavenly) realm, into the realm of reality (Eph 1:19-23; 2:6; Josh 1:3; Eph 4:27; Matt. 4:8-10; Col. 2:15). a. Tenacity and discipline (2 Tim 4:6-8; Gal 6:9; Luke 18:1). b. Choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19). c. Visualize your victory (John 5:17 & 19; Judges 6:11-12; Prov. 29:18). d. Exercise faith (2 Cor 5:7; Hebr 11:1; 6:13-15; Rom 4:18-21). e. Have vision (Proverbs 29:18 and Hebrews 12:2). Paul kept his eye on the prize set before him (Phil 3:14). f. Claim your promises (Joshua 1:3).Stand on (claim) it saying, “this is mine” by the authority of His Word and the promise of God, who cannot lie (Hebrew 6:18). g. Resist the emeny (1Pet. 5:7-9 and James 4:7-8). “We must resist, in faith, the enemy, negativism, our situation and all that is coming against us and that opposes God’s Word and promise with all we have. h. Take action (Mark 2:5 and James 2:17-19). “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:17). Jesus saw the faith of those carrying the paralytic and was moved (Mark 2:5). The Word must be mixed with active faith if it is to profit us (Hebrews 4:2).

– POWER

TO OVERFLOW

SUNDAY ___________________________

Rom 15:13 May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope. WE (as a person and the church as a whole )CAN BE FILLED TO CAPACITY: Paul prays in Eph 3:19-… that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! Eph 1:23 describes the church to be “His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself]. BUT WITH GOD WORKING IN US, WE CAN OVERFLOW Eph 3:20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]-WE GET TO UNDERSTAND THE WORDS OF THE LORD JESUS in Joh 7:37-38 …. If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. WE WILL OVERFLOW OF WHAT WE HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH : Luk 6:45 The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks. The church is supposed to help one another to [develop] : a. (Completeness) oneness in the faith b. complete [full and accurate] knowledge of the Son of God, c. completeness of (His) personality (in us) which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ's own perfection), d. the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Christ and the completeness found in Him. (Eph 4:13) WE ARE SUPPOSE TO (have the Power to) OVERFLOW!!! 1. Overflowing in Love 1Th 3:12 And may the Lord make you to increase and excel and overflow in love for one another and for all people, just as we also do for you, 2Co 2:4 For I wrote you …. to make you realize the overflowing love that I continue increasingly to have for you.

2. Overflowing in Grace and Mercy You were chosen … and were made a holy people by his Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be purified by his blood. May grace and peace be yours in full measure. (1Pe 1:2) May mercy, peace, and love be yours in full measure. (Jud 1:2) (We are NOT supposed to) to remain in sin in order that God's grace (favor and mercy) may multiply and overflow?- Rom 6:1 ..Those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] (they will) reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Rom 5:17 Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. (Jam 3:17) 3. Overflowing with Joy Jesus said in Joh 15:11 - I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing. Ask in my name, according to my will, and he'll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks! (Joh 16:24) PAUL WRITES - I have great boldness and free and fearless confidence and cheerful courage toward you; my pride in you is great. I am filled [brimful] with the comfort [of it]; with all our tribulation and in spite of it, [I am filled with comfort] I am overflowing with joy. 2Co7:4 4. Overflowing in hope May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope. Rom 15:13

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

5. Overflowing in faith Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in(faith) with thanksgiving. Col 2:7 6. Overflowing in generosity Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, ….. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you. Luk 6:38 When I come to you, I know that I shall come with a full measure of the blessing of Christ. (Rom 15:29) Were not suppose to overflow with sin - (Mat 23:32) Luk 12:15 We should ….. keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, (and) the greedy longing to have more); for a man's life …. is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or (what) is over and above his needs. CELLGROUP MATERIAL WEEK 7 The Anointing of the Holy Spirit

___________________________

You have the anointing of God flowing through you when God's heart touches another person's heart through your heart. The anointing of God is the Holy Spirit. He flows as a river of love, from the throne of grace, through the hearts of believers, bringing life to all that receive His touch.

___________________________

God anoints people that love Him more than they love their own lives, and that love others as themselves. As we open our hearts to love others God's anointing flows through us. When we close our hearts to others and grieve the Holy Spirit the flow stops.

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? (1 John 3:17 NKJV) Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. (Prov 4:23 NKJV)

___________________________

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is given through people to demonstrate God's love and power. Christ means the "Anointed One". Because Christ is in us the same anointing that He had on earth we also have. Read: Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV) - "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; {19} To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."

___________________________

1. The anointing is given to preach the gospel to the poor 2. The anointing is given to heal and restore people 3. The anointing is given to proclaim freedom to the captives 4. The anointing is given to open blind eyes 5. The anointing is given to set people free 6. The anointing flows in God's timing and proclaims God's timing

___________________________

1. The anointing is given to preach the gospel to the poor, to bring the revelation of God's love to those who are seeking. God's anointing flows to those who are hungry for a touch from His Holy Spirit. The anointing has less to do with the person that it flows through than it does with the person who receives it, and the One who sent it, God Almighty. .. for power went out from Him and healed them all. Then He … said: "Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. (Luke 6:19-20 NKJV) "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Greek word, “ptochos” which carries the implication of being a beggar, in this case a spiritual beggar hungry for the Spirit of God. (Matt 5:3 NKJV)

The anointing can be stifled if the people refuse to receive it from the person that God is sending it through. Things such as pride, envy, bitterness, and unforgiveness against an anointed person can prevent the receiver from accepting it. The anointed person must go to people that can receive it. …. He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Matt 13:57-58 NKJV) "If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. …"And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words…shake off the dust from your feet. (Matt 10:13-14 NKJV)

"The word …. John preached: "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:36-38 NKJV) 3. The anointing is given to proclaim freedom to the captives And a servant of the Lord must(BE) …, able to teach, .. correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and .. may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, … (2 Tim 2:24-26) 4. The anointing is given to open blind eyes But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, …(2 Cor 4:3-4 NKJV) "I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, ..; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. (Rev 3:18 NKJV) 5. The anointing is given to set people free …. That his burden will be taken away ….And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. (Isaiah 10:27 NKJV) "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (John 8:36 NKJV) 6. The anointing flows in God's timing, and also proclaims God's timing

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. As we walk in the anointing of God we go where God wills, do what God wills, and say what God wills. (Ephes 2:10 NKJV) …. but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. "And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him." (John 8:28-29 NKJV)

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God (John 4:10 NKJV) ;(John 4:13-14 NKJV) ;(John 7:37-39 NKJV) ;(2 Cor 1:20-22 NKJV) ;

The anointing gives wisdom (1 John 2:20 NKJV) ;(1 John 2:27 NKJV) ;(Isaiah 11:2 NKJV) ;(Daniel 12:3 NKJV) ;(Prov 11:30 NKJV) (Psalms 90:12 NKJV)

The anointing is the river of life that flows from the throne through your heart and penetrates other people's hearts (Psalms 36:7-9 NKJV) ;(Psalms 46:4 NKJV) ;(Rev 21:6 NKJV) ;(Rev 22:1-2 NKJV) ; (Rev 22:17 NKJV) ;

As we continue in the river of God's anointing it intensifies until we are carried by it. (Ezek 47:1-10 NKJV) - Wherever the river goes it brings life. The fish in the above passage represent lost souls; the sea represents the sea of humanity, peoples and nations that need the gospel message to come through God's anointed people.

The anointing is given to intercede for people (Isaiah 59:16-21 NKJV) ; (Isaiah 60:1-2 NKJV) ;

___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________ ___________________________

The free flowing anointing of God's love brings joy to God and that joy is felt by the person He flows through. Love is the joy we get from God when we put His benefit and the benefit of another person before our own. (Psalms 45:3-7 NKJV) ;(Isaiah 58:6-12 NKJV)

Although there is great pleasure and joy in the anointing, because it is the presence of God, we are not to seek the joy, we are to seek God, and the benefit of others, the joy is a natural result of these things. The anointing is not given for the vessel it flows through; it is given for the one it flows to. (Psalms 16:11 NKJV) ; (James 4:3 NKJV) ; •

Everyone in the body of Christ is anointed with the Holy Spirit, and we all need to give from God's anointing to each other, and we all need to be able to receive the anointing that comes through other Christians. (1 Cor 12:4-12 NKJV) ;(Ephes 4:11-16 NKJV) ; • The anointing is sacred, the anointing is the Holy Spirit, and all believers in Christ have the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We must be careful what we say about our brothers and sisters in Christ. (Matt 12:31 NKJV) ;(1 Chron 16:22-24 NKJV) ;
