Cobham Hall Boarding News: October 2021 By Brooke and Bligh Housemistresses

As we begin a new year at Cobham Hall, we would like to declare a warm welcome to our new and returning Boarders and Housemistresses. We wish everyone a great year at Cobham Hall, filled with many beautiful memories and lots of fun! Our Boarders have adjusted well to the many changes in both the boarding houses and school since the restrictions have been eased, and they are doing very well! As the term has progressed, we have had the opportunity to finally be able to take our boarders out and show them London and the surrounding areas! If you would like to see what activities there have been so far, keep on scrolling to see all the great photos we have captured and imagine the memories we have made together! Cruella De Ville

In the evening, we watched Cruella and it was an amazing movie. We sat in the common room with popcorn and delicious sweets. The sofas were so comfortable and warm. My favourite bit of the movie was when Estella turned into Cruella. Anjola, Year 11.

IKEA & Lakeside

For the first Sunday trip at Cobham Hall, we went to the IKEA and Lakeside shopping centre. It was really interesting and fantastic as it was my first trip with the school. First, we bought some decorations and furniture for our rooms in IKEA. Then we went to Lakeside shopping centre, we had amazing food there. In addition, we also chilled out a bit and did some shopping. All in all, the first trip was really exciting and brilliant. Olivia, Year 12.

Chessington

On the 19th September, we went on a trip to Chessington World of Adventures. Out of all the trips we have been on, it was by far my favourite! As I am quite scared of heights, I started off with smaller rides like the monkey swing and river rafts. However, afterwards, I built my courage to go on the vampire ride. It was my favourite Joy, year 12

Wagamama & Games The night was amazing! It was very entertaining as we played a lot of games Including “Werewolf”. We mixed with the other boarding house which gave us the opportunity to interact with new people we usually don’t live together with! Chloe, year 13

Tie-Dye T-Shirts It was so fascinating to do our own tie-dye t-shirts as everyone enjoyed this event. We felt so excited when wearing the shirts to the Cobham Festival as we had made them all by ourselves. That was truly a great experience!

Austina, Year 13

We did Tie-dye in the common room and it was so fun and colourful. I was able to express myself through colour. It was a good social event, and I still wear the shirt to this day. I can’t wait to do more creative activities in the future. Lindi, Year 9

Pizza takeaway This pizza takeaway was so fun, and I got to socialise with a lot of the boarders. The pizzas that came had all different toppings so that we could have a choice of what we would like to eat. I had pepperoni and it tasted delicious. To end the night, we played Jenga and Uno. Francia, Year 7

Cobham Festival

We had the Cobham festival in a lovely field, and we used that field to play a lot of fun games. The Sixth formers did face painting and it looked amazing. Unfortunately, it started raining but that didn’t stop us as we came inside and played bench ball. For my first Cobham Festival, it was amazing and I am very excited for the next one. Elena, Year 9

National Day of China and Nigeria On Friday the 1st of October we celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day and the National Day of the People's Republic of China. We ordered food from local restaurants and the food was amazing. All of Bligh and Brooke (Boarding houses) emerged together to communicate and have fun. We played music and games. It was a really fantastic time. Moyo, Year 12.

For Nigerian Independence Day, we ate a lot of traditional food and played a lot of music. The food was delightful, and it was such an entertaining evening. My favourite food was the jollof rice and the meat. I made a lot of new friends that evening. Taina, Year 11.

Baking for the National Day of Germany

On the weekend, we made banana bread, cookies and German blueberry cheesecake with a recipe from a famous baker for the National Day of Germany. Everyone had different jobs and did their jobs to the best of their abilities. It was such a lovely atmosphere. The banana bread tasted amazing and so did the cookies, and I cannot wait to bake more goods. Velvet, Year 10.

Brighton For a Sunday trip, all years went to Brighton. It was a great time and everyone had fun. We all had free time to walk around and explore Brighton. My friends and I decided to go shopping in North Laine. It was lots of fun. Erica, Year 12.

Rock Painting

To celebrate world mental health day we did rock painting, and it was fun. I had so much fun with my friends. Seeing other people paint their ideas for mental health was entertaining. I cannot wait for next year's activity for mental health day. Natalie, Year 10.

Head of House Hi, I’m Yaka and I am Head of House for Bligh. In boarding, I relay information from Boarders to the Housemistress on duty. I make sure that everyone is comfortable and do my best to help with their problems.

Hello, My name is Erica and I am Head of House for Brooke. This is my first year here at Cobham Hall and I am so happy with how friendly and accepting the students are here. I am really happy with my leadership role and will make sure everyone has the best possible experience in the boarding community.

Deputy Head of House Hi, my name is Abadere and I am in Year 11. I am the Deputy Head of House for Bligh. My role is to assist our Head of House, to hold activities and talk to the boarders about any concerns. I aim to make sure our whole boarding house is comfortable and happy.

My name is Moyo, Year 12 and I am Deputy Head of House for Brooke. I am glad to say that I enjoy being Deputy because I love to see my fellow boarding mates rely upon and trust me with everything. It is always a pleasure to help, where help is needed.

Social Officer Hi, my name is Taina, and I’m cannot wait to plan and organise fun activities for Bligh House as their Social Officer.

Being a Social Officer at Brooke house is very interesting. There are many chances for me to organise different activities for the boarders. As the Social Officer, I particularly enjoyed seeing peoples smiley faces when they are engaging in games. This gives me more motivation to hold more events. I would definitely say being a Social Officer is a worthy and nice experience! Joey, Year 13

Media Officer Hi, my name is Kesi, and I am the Media Officer of Bligh House. I capture all the activities in Bligh and send them to the Housemistresses. I also help the Social Officer to plan amazing activities.

Being the Media Officer in Brooke House is a great opportunity to make new friends, learn about different cultures, and socialise. I'm having fun writing about all the incredible trips that we have and events that we celebrate. I'm very glad that by holding this position, I help my friends and our staff to capture and memorialise the lovely and joyful moments that we are having. Fatima, Year 12.

Travel Arrangements

Please could you let your Housemistress know your travel arrangements for the December end of term as soon as possible.

Please note that it is a busy time and we need to book a lot of taxis to get boarders to airports. We will try and share these with other boarders, if at all possible, but we will need to have the information in plenty of time. Boarders may not leave school before the specified time. If you need to request permission to leave early you must email the Headmistress via her PA, Mrs Odendaal at OdendaalL@cobhamhall.com. Members of Boarding staff are not able to give permission for leaving school early.
