where it’s happening

Colchester is a thriving university town with a population of 170,000 and it is Britain’s oldest recorded town. Here history, modern culture and diversity come together to create a dynamic urban vibe.

Studying with us means you’re only ever a short walk away from the town centre and an abundance of shopping facilities, bars, clubs and restaurants. Whether your taste is English, Chinese, Japanese, Italian or Indian - Colchester has it all and, what’s more, it caters for all budgets! Colchester’s nightlife has something for everyone too. If a traditional pub is what you’re looking for, or clubbing till the early hours, you won’t be disappointed. If shopping till you drop is more your style, put your best comfy shoes on; the town has many quirky, independent boutiques along the little lanes, as well as the larger, more famous brands and stores. There’s also a range of modern and historic cultural activities to enjoy, from the Colchester Arts Centre to the wonders of the largest Norman Keep in Europe set in the beautiful Castle Park. An exciting programme of exhibitions, lectures, films and events take place at firstsite, Colchester’s spectacular new venue for world class contemporary arts. If that wasn’t enough, the town has one of Europe’s finest zoos, a multi-screen cinema and a spa combined with top notch leisure facilities at Leisure World. Colchester really does cater for everyone.
