San Juan Island Museum of Art

The San Juan Historical Museum is located on the momentous landmark of James F. King Farmstead, only a few blocks away from the Friday Harbor Ferry Landing. The James King farmhouse was originally built in 1894 by James F. King. In 1966, the farmhouse was donated by the new owner and local resident George Peacock to the Historical Society to use as a museum. The San Juan Historical Museum and San Juan Historical Society illuminate the life story of the peoples of San Juan Island from the 19th century to the early 20th century. Visit the original ounty jail, which was deemed “the worst jail in the state of Washington,” from 1894 to 1971. Walk through historic buildings, as the San Juan Historical Society conserves the exhibits for future generations to come. Celebrate the home of the Annual 4th of July Pig War Community Picnic, the Music on the lawn Summer Concert Series, and the Annual Old- Fashioned Christmas Celebration.
