MOVING TO SMIR COASTLINE RESILIENCE

Creation of a new coastline

The M’diq coastline is essentially characterized by the wetland of Smir and by the organization of the elements in contact with it. Global warming has increased the vulnerability of the coastline, increasing the risk of erosion, flooding and sea level rise. The project aims to anticipate rising water levels while creating a hybrid coastal landscape mixing urban, nature and practices. It consists in the creation of a new coastal landscape protected by more or less flexible coastal protection devices. The wetland will be moved to the front line of the new coastline, acting as a buffer space protecting urbanization and infrastructure near the coast. An adaptation of the new urban forms is envisaged so that the urban area can coexist with the rising waters. The challenge in this area is also to encourage the development of new soft mobility in and around the wetland to compensate for the omnipresence of the automobile. To counterbalance the offer of seaside tourism, the wetland becomes a support for eco-tourism and creates a new form of efficient local economy all year round. SCÉNARIO IN 2050 N

TO MEET ABOVE Rethink the Rákóczi street

Located along Rákóczi Street, one of the largest and densest streets in Budapest, the project consists of adding multifunctional wooden greenhouses to the roofs of existing buildings. Part of their surface area can be used for urban agriculture and the other part is intended to be shared for collective activities. The project called TO MEET ABOVE aims to dialogue with a new urban planning for the city. Today we are living with the causes and consequences of climate change: pollution, carbon footprint, housing crisis. Setting more sustainable goals in the dense spaces, especially in urban centers, are ideologies of the future within an existing architectural fabric.

Diversifying uses | INTERIOR PLAN

By encouraging a new urbanity in relation to the wider context of the urban fabric, the multifunctional greenhouse project emphasises new functions on the roofs of Budapest. In the wake of climate change, it becomes essential to rethink our ways of consuming through a new participatory and collective approach, which aims to reconnect the inhabitants to a more natural environment. Half of the total surface area of the greenhouses is used for urban agriculture in shared gardens. The other half is used for community events for workshops, conferences, open stages and outdoors competitions. In the case of shared gardens, greenhouses collect and store rainwater in reservoirs to reuse it for watering fruit and vegetables. Community gardens collect and store rainwater in reservoirs to reuse it for watering fruit and vegetables. The vegetated areas in the greenhouses restore a natural habitat and allow the reintroduction of insects that participate in the pollination of plants in greenhouses.

RECONNECT THE LANDSCAPE AREA TO THE RIVER

Community center and design area on the Erzsébet bridge

The main idea is to link the area of the Elizabeth bridge to the Danube by creating a long building that overlooks the road up to the Danube. As a “strong connection”, the aim is to represent a light, transparent and levitating glass bar building that emphasizes the park and connects it to the waterfront. The project is located parallel to the Elizabeth bridge and in the axis of the touristic passage of Piarista koz. This 80 m long bar building is maintained by two concrete pillars in order to minimize the part that touches the ground. The short part above the green park is 15 m long while the longest part, above the roads and the Danube, is 45 m long. With a 10m-width, the interior space receives natural light all day long. The building entrance is located on both sides of the concrete pillars. All the circulation is hidding inside them, around a main stair and elevators which lead to upper levels. For the program, the building is spread into different functions such as a multimedia library, an exhibition hall, a restaurant and a roof top that offers a panoramic view on the Danube and the rest of the area. To describe the expression of the building, the truss structure reveals itself through the glass casing. Structural elements are in white colors (beams, lattice structure) to make them easily visible and the non structural part is in black. Horizontal beams, and diagonal supports are visible from outside. All the way to the Danube, the glass casing reveals the landscape and monuments of the area of the Pest side, such as the bridge and the church.

Urban planning and design on the Csepel Művek’s site If we put Csepel on a scale relative to the city of Budapest, the industrial area located on the south, cuts the Danube in half and has a real strong importance in the economic development of the city. It represents 200 hectares, which is immense and with a distance of 8 km from the city center, the northern part of this site is easily accessible. The project is located on the North Eastern part of Csepel. Thanks to his rectangular urban grid, it makes the space clearly understandable. The railway, the main road and bike roads easily connect the site to the rest of the city. The main idea is to create a continuity of public space between industries and citizens. For this reason, we decided to open the East front and make it attractive to citizens by creating a showroom that encourages them to continue their way through the various areas of the site. The two main entrances, located at the border, present a real potential to extend the city’s public space up to the industrial area. Most of the 55 buildings (73%) are industrial and the remaining 27% are leisure and commercial activities (education, sport center, showroom, multifunctional hall, entertainment and restaurant). They are linked to raise pedestrian walkways, landscapes and public space. Together, they revitalize the surrounding area.

CHOREGRAPHIC CREATIVE CENTER Scenography of spectacle on the Viste’s site

The aim of this project is to revitalize the popular and isolated city in the Viste sector and the former Mirabeau barracks by creating a cultural and artistic center that takes into account the value of the area. The topography, pedestrian paths and landscaped area are the main assets of the site, but its lack of planing makes it difficult for pedestrians to access this area. The project is located in the heart of the neighbourhood and reinvests the separation area between users and the park on the hill. It is a semi-buried building that is affirmed in length and which is connected by pathways to the ground floor of the buildings’ bars. The circulation area for cars is replaced by a landscaped path. It is with this body’s itinerary in space that the idea of a choreographic center emerged, which thinks the movement of the body through ramps, platforms, interior gardens and an urban square on the roof. The structure of the project is light, it is a system of a 50 x 50 concrete beam pillar, covered with a wooden floor. The building consists of 4 levels, including 3 underground levels which are the Lower Ground Floor and the Upper Ground Floor as spaces open to the public while the Intermediate level is a private space for artists and dancers. To remain with this idea of fluidity in the pedestrian movements, long ramps connect the different floors. The light is provided by different patios that also offers the possibility to occupy the vegetation space. REALISE A L'AIDE D'UN PRODUIT AUTODESK VERSION ETUDIANT

MEET THE INTIMITY IN A CROWDED ROUNDABOUT Housing in Mazargues

The goal is to create a housing unit on the roundabout site of Mazargues, in Marseille. The project location introduces itself as a city entrance landscape, defined by different types of buildings and a major traffic road. The shape of the building emerges from a parallel alignment to the boundaries of the plot : two heterogeneous and partially enclosed blocks reduce the noises rom the main avenue and contain open green spaces. The buildings rise in an horizontal partition, highlighting the base, cornice, floors and roof. To remind the minerality of the site, the project is concrete-made and then covered with plaster. For the program, the North Block ground, floor and roof are public spaces encouraging the organization of events to stimulate the neighbourhood life. The two buildings are composed of thirty residential units including twenty T3, eight T4 and two T6. Appartments are open view or angled depending on their REALISE A L'AIDE PRODUIT AUTODESK position in the floor and follow a frame of 6m X 12m. A music school at the Prefecture site in Marseille, at the American Embassy plot. ItSchémas marksconcept a new Plan de situation 1/5000e axiality, perpendicular to the Préfecture and aims to enhance the fountains’ public space, located at the crossroads of flows. This project is born from a massive block which, by the breakthrough, favours the passage and opening to the city. The circulating spaces (linked to the flows and interactions) create an architecture of plateaus and highlight the frame of the project. This frame ( pots from 5m to 8m) is a way to respond to lightness and being a transition between intimate and open spaces. Modular blocks are used to define modular rooms and spaces for the program.

The ground floor is a large square which serves as a public gathering space with fireplace, exhibitions and ticket office. On the three upper storeys rises an amphitheatre, with the secretariat administration and access for artists (R+1), the sound archives (R+2) and the teacher’s area (R+3). The two upper storeys (R+4 and R+5) are both opened to the public for the Library and Cafeteria, Rapport a Plan masse 1/500e but de aresituation mainly intended1/5000e for students. A surrounding Schémas concept crown encircles the entire building to increase its Plan Ra Plan masse 1/500e lightness, favour views and create a route that is connected to the city. In continuity with the existing, the project is in concrete. A box floor system is used to support the roof of the slabs and storeys.

The aim is to create a small collective complex located on the heights of the Panier district in Marseille. Project location is at the crossroads of flows. The problem encountered is that there is no appropriation of space. Then, the goal is to revitalize the place by creating a building which allows community life.

To take up the dynamic shape of the square generated by the asymmetry of the buildings, the project breaks one of its angles to guide passers-by towards the collective. Since the plot is narrow, two duplex apartments are built. The ground floor serves as a meeting place for the inhabitants of the neighbourhood. The front is designed in quincunx to highlight the intimacy and “extimity” relationship. The project suggests seeing what happens through walls without making it explicit thanks to oriented openings. Each floor has a terrace to enjoy while being à protected from street. 1/10 000ethe outdoor Planviews de situation l’échelle duthequartier Circulating spaces are located along the closed walls, in the extension of the external circulating Plan de situation à l’échelle de la ville 1/10 000e Plan de situation à l’échelle du quartier 1/2 000e staircase. de la ville 1/10 000e Plan de situation à l’échelle du quartier 1/

BUILDING WITH THE LANDSCAPE

Living on the slope

The idea is to create a residency for an artist family on the Cassis peninsula. The project takes place on a steep slope. rieure sur le patio

Two words enabled me to support the project: - entertaining : idea of stacking games of inverted cubes that create an architectural space, - oriented: guideline that gives to see the whole landscape. For the room distribution, the project is based on a system of modules established according to uses. The more use is frequent, the bigger the space. Seven cubes are split into three different modules. To adapt the levelling, cubes are at different levels and interconnected by a traffic corridor. Interior equipments and storages are integrated in the walls or in the corridor’s traffic area. This allows a complete view on the landscape. N

The project concerns the expandition of a public access to the sea and the construction of a restaurant under the cornice Kennedy in Marseille. In the transitional space between the city and the sea, a swimming pool is located : “ Le Club des Plan masse 1/500 Dauphins ”, which has limited living spaces opened to the sea. The main objective of the project consists inFaçade revitalising the site and renewing contact between 1/200 people and the sea by setting up an architectural Sud-Ouest route. The aim is to design a restaurant that will be connected to the architectural route previously developed. The restaurant emerges from the circular ramps. The kitchen and pantry are dug under the Corniche while the restaurant is located under the upper ramp. The restaurant’s shape is a natural adaptation to the existing route. When seated at the table of the restaurant, the horizon is contemplated through windows positioned at eye-level.

Efficient & Transportable Makeshift Units

Our everyday life is affected by the consequences of the pandemic. Between the anxiety for people who have loved ones infected by the Covid-19 and the fear to get contaminated, our minds are understandably overwhelmed. Reflecting on this growing fear of going to the hospital, we came up with the idea of bringing the hospital to the people. To respond to pandemic situation in the most effective way, the hospital and Health care project will be easily transportable and storable, built in aMakeshift short time, easy to assembly and zone disassembly, efficient, flexible, sustainable and safe for everyone.

ANDEMIC ARCHITECTURE -

With the purpose of dividing Covid and non-Covid patients, basic treatment will stay inside the hospital and covid-19 department will be relocated. In this department, 2 different types of nursing units will be installed depending on the patient’s health.

NEW SKYLINES FOR NEW CITIES

From the architectural image to the image of the city

3rd Bachelor degree 2019 | Study Research Supervised by Delphine Desert

39

Thinking about the future of a city requires the definition of an urban strategy to adopt. The «Bilbao effect» is an example of this, but it is not applicable everywhere and each city must define its own strategy in order to expect the best results. The image conveyed by the city is an essential element in the functioning of its economy because it is a way of enhancing its image and making itself attractive. From its earliest representations to the present day, the world functions on the principle of appearance. Visible at any scale, from the village to the metropolis, cities hierarchize spaces and stage large squares that underline the monumentality of a building. The term «architectural image» is then used as a tool to transform the image of the city. This dissertation focuses on the mediation and transformation of the city through iconic architecture. Through the study of Marseille under the prism of the «Marseille Provence 2013» event, the comparison between the image of different port cities, the modes of urban planning in application in European cities and the sensitive representation of the city’s image by individuals, will provide knowledge on «urban marketing» strategies and on the place of iconic architecture in the transformation of cities.

Distinguished by its rich landscape, history and heritage, the hinterland mainly focuses its offer on activities related to nature and agriculture. Its tourist influence, much more limited than the coastal area, remains anchored in the department and the travel of the inhabitants in the hinterland is mostly done for a day or a weekend. In order to unlock several practice and attractiveness in the hinterland, what are the areas of the hinterland which by their forms, accessibility and uses become opportunities to create a new territorial attractiveness? Through its characteristic villages, its sectors of pastoral agriculture, nature, culture and agritourism, the department demonstrates its attachment to heritage and ancestral values, particularly those carried by transhumance. ÂŤThe pastoral society is the architect and builder of mountain landscapesÂť. The notion of transhumance refers to several practice trails in the hinterland, not only concentrated on pastoral farming but also on the development of itineraries, hiking trails and nature sports and leisure activities. For this reason, I have chosen to extend the practice of transhumance to that of cultural itineraries and the practice of leisure and nature sports which represent a lever for the development of the department.

In the new urban concept of the city, the focus is on industrial, railway and port areas. These large spaces, most often located on the edge, at the exit and in front of the city, are an opportunity to boost the city’s development and reclaim its territory. In connection with the previous section, I have chosen to focus the following analysis on the reconquest of urban water fronts. They represent one of the greatest international concerns of the 21st century. This case study focuses on the attractiveness of port cities, the first visibility of the country since the water with the example of two industrial warehouses in Budapest and Marseille, one linked to the Danube and the other to the sea, which underwent a great transformation during the industrial revolution of the 19th century. Does the attractiveness strategy present in Marseille also work in Budapest? What are their similarities? Their objectives? The negative and positive effects?

Capital of Hungary, Budapest is the center of a strong tourist and cultural activity due to its geographical location in the center of Europe, its climate, its topography and its history. The complexity of its territory, which contrasts between the hills of Buda, the Danube and the city center of Pest, makes it a city full of diversity. In order to increase the number of visitors, both local and foreign, the city is transforming itself and investing in major cultural and tourist operations while preserving its nationalist character. The idea of creating a museum district within VĂĄrosliget Park, the oldest public park in Budapest, emerged in 2011. The prestigious ÂŤLiget BudapestÂť project is, beyond its architectural transformation for the development of the city, an emblematic symbol of political power. Architecture is disappearing in favor of celebrity, awards and entertainment to build a new utopian and modern image of Budapest in world opinion. Nevertheless, the project causes many problems as causes of the population. In spite of a large number of resistance fighters, the issues related to the development of the city and the transformation of an emblematic public park into an exhibition space did not mobilize enough citizens to resist the realization of the project. In this context, architecture must follow the resistance of the public and be transparent to the world instead of being a city that promotes the showcase and supports government policy.
