New Grilling Tools A couple days ago we headed over to Kmart and picked up some new grilling tools for hubby. We decided to put together an early Father’s Day meal and share his grilling tips with everyone!

Tips
1. Leave the meat alone. Don’t mess with it a lot, know how thick your me at is and abo ut how long it ne eds to cook an d just let it cook . 2. After the st eak is done gr illing, let it sit for 15 minutes t o reabsorb the ju ices before yo u cut into it. 3. Put a slab o f butter on top fo r more flavor an d it is amazing !

Kmart Father’s Day Patio Party Even though Father’s Day isn’t until next week I got some of my family together this weekend to enjoy a little pre-Father’s Day gathering. Every year for Father’s day we do just about the same thing… some grilling, watch whatever game is on and just relax! Why? Cause that’s what the boys like to do. My dad and my hubby are really big basketball fans so the fact that the Heat and the Celtics were playing in game 7 was a reason to get together period! It’s so nice to see how well they get along! I mean isn’t that every girls worst fear, that YOUR dad won’t like your hubby? But they pretty much hit it off from day one, and even though my dad about killed him one time when we were dating (funniest story ever) they seem to get along like father and son. I’m so lucky to have these two in my life! Even more thankful for the type of father he his and the type of grandfather my dad is! So I was more than happy to host a party for these two and show off my pretty little Jaclyn Smith 6 piece patio set from my friends at Kmart!

New Patio for Father’s Day With Father’s Day right around the corner, I knew it was time to “spruce” up the outside deck with a new patio set and grill. One of my husband’s favorite foods is steak, so I really wanted to serve that on Father’s Day. To be completely honest I have never even cooked steak because we don’t have a grill! So for Father’s Day I thought it would be fun to surprise him {early!} with a new patio set and grill. He LOVED it! It was so nice to enjoy our dinner out on the patio together. This will make a fun Father’s Day tradition. Our backyard was in DESPERATE need of help, so I am super excited about this new patio set from Kmart. Stay tuned to see some other changes we’ve made to our back yard. If you follow me on instagram you saw the hubs has been working hard on it!

Family Friendly Outdoor 4th of July Party Ideas The 4th of July is one of my favorite summer holidays for entertaining! We’ve had several big 4th of July parties in the past, especially when we were younger! We’re thinking about throwing a big 4th of July bash this year, so we need to spruce up our patio! When summer hits we’re ready for the outdoors. The Kmart Outdoor Living Catalog had quite a few patio sets I liked, so we decide to head out to our local Kmart store to check out their selection of outdoor decor. You can click on the image to check out everything they have available! We were pleasantly surprised by their nice selection of outdoor furniture. My son and my husband eventually settled into this bar patio set. It was on sale for $319, and under our $400 budget, a big plus! It’s part of the Dawson Collection by Jaclyn Smith Today. I love Jaclyn Smith! The best part is there are other pieces we can add on later, and other patio sets to match.

4th of July Backyard Bash We needed some patio furniture to create a party area where we could relax with family and friends. I checked out Kmart’s website and sure enough, they had what I was looking for. We packed up the kids and headed to Kmart to pick out some patio furniture! They had a great selection and I actually had a really hard time choosing. But I kept coming back to this same set. It looked good, had a durable finish, big comfy cushions, plenty of seating, and a table for all of the food we’d no doubt be snacking on. ;)

My Kmart Outdoor 4th of July Summer Bash Patio Preparation I purchased the Jayden 4 piece Dining Chairs and Glass Table. With my ShopYourWay Rewards Member discount I purchased the set for $179, which is significantly reduced from $299. That left me with a ton of money to spend on outdoor decorations and Americana party decor. Isn’t my new patio table beautiful? The citronella candle even fit in with the 4th of July theme. I was pretty thankful to have it as my centerpiece because Florida gets really buggy and those pesky mosquitoes sure love me!

Surprise Mini Backyard Makeover for Mom While we’re still waiting for summer to arrive here in Seattle and most of us are doing that waiting inside, my mother loves outdoor living, even in the rain. Her beloved gazebo fell victim to a heavy snowfall this winter, literally. Her backyard was a bit of a mess; leaving her outdoor furniture uncovered during our very wet winter and spring. The gazebo was hauled off a few weeks ago but the mess it left behind was overwhelming so my sister and I conspired to do a mini backyard makeover for her. Granted, my idea of a “mini” makeover consisted of washing the patio and buying mom a new chair for reading outside. My sister Judy’s idea was to invite over tons of help to dig up part of mom’s yard and add a lot of gravel to provide a new seating area, pressure wash the patio, weed the flower beds, plant all the planters, and more. To get the makeover started, Judy, her husband and I met at our local Kmart to do the shopping. We’d checked out the selection at the Kmart website the day before so we had some ideas about what we’d be picking up. We settled on an outdoor Lazy-Boy recliner as the perfect showcase piece for the makeover. Mom loves to read and she loves her recliner inside, so this was a fabulous choice.

Surprise Backyard Spruce-up I want to tell you about one of my best friends, Edna. She is an absolute riot. I never laugh as hard as I do when we are together. She is also a great listener and I always know I can tell her anything and she won’t judge. Edna is also in the middle of planning her daughter’s wedding and it is in just a little over a month. I have been watching Edna stress out about not only getting everything done but how is it all going to get paid for. Not to mention the emotional roller coaster of having her daughter getting married. When I was presented with the opportunity to surprise one of my friends with a mini backyard spruce-up, I absolutely knew I had to surprise Edna. Edna’s husband was nice enough to do the assembly for us. Of course we “supervised” while chatting away about wedding plans and details. TA-DA! Here she is all finished. The whole family loved it, including the Bride-to-be, who was excited there are enough seats for her soon to be husband to fit at the table too!

A Surprise Backyard Mini Makeover There are people in this world who are very giving. The kind of people that will give you their last dollar if you need it. People who will listen, support, and encourage you. I am fortunate enough to know such a person, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to pay his kindness forward by treating him to a surprise mini backyard spruce up. My mission, which I chose to accept, was to stealthily visit the local Kmart undetected and pick up a few critical items that would be needed for this surprise. Luckily, this person has been talking for weeks, if not months, about how he wants to get a nice patio set for his deck. He also mentioned that he was interested in a water fountain for the soothing and relaxing sounds. I wasn’t sure what I would find at Kmart but I went in with determination. When the spruced up yard was finally revealed, there was total amazement. I heard, “I was just talking about needing a patio set for the yard!” and “I was wanting to get a water fountain!” It was a wonderful feeling knowing that I was able to give something that was wanted to someone who never asks for anything. It was great knowing that I was able to bring a big smile to his face. There were hugs, grins and enjoyment all around.
