The Messenger THE PROMISE OF A NEW YEAR By Lakan Mariano A new year heralds a new beginning. But for a lot of people 2018 simply revisits familiar troubles, the well-worn baggage we carry still weighing us down. If our hope is in the flipping of a page on a calendar we will be sorely disappointed. But there is One who is unchanging, One who is faithful, one who is full of grace, one who is righteous and just, One who is merciful, at all times. Year in and year out. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). The “faithful love of the Lord never ends!” His “mercies begin afresh each morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23). His grace is sufficient every single day for anything and everything we face in life (2 Corinthians 12:9). “We all live off his generous bounty, gift after gift after gift” (John 1:16, MSG). Christ’s gift, His grace, comes to us like wave after wave after wave, splashing us with His blessings, drenching us with joy, and soaking us in hope. It is unceasing, because His love for His children is unceasing. Jesus. Seeing and enjoying the goodness of Jesus is the promise of the new year. Look to Him and be surprised by His grace and goodness at every turn. ~Lakan His grace is sufficient every single day for anything and everything we face in life (2 Corinthians 12:9).
