The Messenger BLESSEDLY SURROUNDED By Lakan Mariano I rang the doorbell and waited. I was visiting an elderly couple and I knew it would take them a few minutes to shuffle to the door. I was expecting the wife to open the door since the husband had just gotten out of the hospital and could barely walk. The husband opened the door and greeted me. “Where is your walker,” I asked him as he and I walked into the living room. “Oh, I'm okay.” A few days later I got a call that the husband had fallen and hurt himself bad. There are times when we as believers think we are okay, we can manage on our own. Faced with the chaos that every day life offers, we think we can fix things and bring order to them by sheer determination. But there are things in life that can paralyze us. “My bones wasted away through my groaning all day long... my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer” (Psalm 32:3, 4). In spite of what you hear or read from some false teachers today that if you simply have enough faith you will not go through hardships, reality quickly sets in when you get sick or something bad happens. Jesus told us we as believers are not immune to the hardships of life. “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). But don't miss what are on both sides of that verse. In front of our trouble, Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.” Notice where are our peace lies. Not in the change of our circumstances, but in Christ. Our peace in Christ protects us from the front. And we should not fear that some trouble would jump us from behind. Jesus said, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” The Amplified Version puts it this way, “... be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have In This Issue overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information
And here is another good news for believers. The Lord Jesus is not just in front of us and behind us. He surrounds us. “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, from this time forth and forevermore” (Psalm 125:2). Never is there a time when you are alone with your troubles. For Christ surrounds you.
