The Messenger FAITH THAT COUNTS By Lakan Mariano
The water was cold and murky. Although I could see the railings on the sides of what I assumed were steps going down to where I could baptize Don and his daughter Angela, I could not see the steps or anything at all. So I gingerly probed the bottom with my right foot, trying to keep my balance. I could see why Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army, got angry when told by the prophet Elisha to wash himself seven times in the Jordan to cure his leprosy (2 Kings 5:1-19). When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land (Joshua 3), the Jordan River was at floodstage from all the snow melting from Mount Hermon. God instructed Joshua to have the priests carrying the ark of the covenant to be the first to step in the water. Because the current was swift and the water was murky it took faith for the priests to literally walk and step in to the Jordan River. That is a beautiful picture of biblical faith. God says cross the river. The murkiness and the swift current might have made someone think that God must be out of his mind. But the priests believed what God said and stepped in to the water. When they did, the floodwaters stopped about twenty miles north by a town called Adam and the people of God walked on dry land to the other side. Biblical faith is not how strong one believes that something will happen. Biblical faith is always anchored on the Person of God. Biblical faith is taking God at his Word and acting on the basis of his Word no matter our circumstances, no matter how we feel. You may not be able to see how God can work something out, or how good can come out of what you are going through, but if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you can confidently expect for God to do exactly what he said in the Bible he will do. If he told you you will In This Issue cross the Jordan River on dry ground, that is exactly what will happen. From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries
The faith that matters is not how much you believe something for that something to happen, but it is the faith that simply trusts Christ and his Word. Trust him and his Word and be surprised at every turn by his goodness and his grace.
