The Messenger DON’T PANIC! By Lakan Mariano When you feel surrounded and threatened by life’s troubles, open your eyes. The prophet Elisha’s servant woke up one morning to find the Syrians, the enemy of God’s people surrounding him and his master. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” Believers in Jesus Christ are not exempt from life’s troubles. You wake up one morning surrounded and besieged by troubles. But believers in Jesus Christ should take to heart and find strength and comfort in his true realities: “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore” (Psalm 125:2). “LORD, You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7). “The LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in Him” (Psalm 32:10). “The Angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them” (Psalm 34:7). Listen and believe what your heavenly Father is saying to you, “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you” (Isaiah 41:10, MSG). ~ Lakan
