The Messenger GOD'S WORK By Lakan Mariano
Sin weighs you down. King David groaned under the weight of his sin. “There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me” (Psalm 36:3-4). Like poison, his sin was killing him from the inside out. “When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up” (Psalm 32:3-4, MSG). David knew what he needed. He needed God. He needed what only God could do. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). “Create” (bara), is the same word used in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Man can make or form things but only God can create. Eugene Peterson's The Message captures this sense. “God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.” Only God can do that. Only in Christ can that be done. Relief and freedom can only come from Christ freeing us from our sins. In This Issue
