The Messenger PROMISES YOU CAN BANK ON By Lakan Mariano The grief and the bitterness were clearly etched on her face. “I thought that if I just have enough faith, the Lord would heal my husband.” I had just walked in to the hospital room of a man who had just died. There was nothing at the moment that I could say to this grieving wife, so I just put my arms around her to comfort her. Often, believers’ disappointment with God are over promises He never made. The “promise of healing” if you believe strongly enough for someone’s healing, or the “promise of prosperity” if one lives out the reality that he or she is a child of the King and therefore has all His riches, a convoluted and tortured understanding of the Bible. God is only bound to the promises that He Himself made in God’s Word. “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” (Joshua 21:45). Those are the promises you can bank on. ~Lakan
