The Messenger AWED By Lakan Mariano
I was so amazed I was speechless. We had gotten off the narrow and winding Million Dollar Highway in Colorado and hiked to a lookout point. The Majestic view of trees and valleys and mountains was so spectacular it rendered me speechless. After soaking it in for a long time I started to take pictures. The pictures never do justice to the real thing. Like the gospel. The gospel is so amazingly beautiful, so immense in its love and generosity and justice and righteousness and grace and mercy that your mind and your heart cannot fully take it all in. God the Son, the eternal, infinite, creator, sovereign God, invading time and space, clothing himself fully in our humanity, suffering and dying for our sins, to redeem us. The gospel, explained in lives lived out and in teaching from Genesis to Revelation. As Jesus taught his two dejected disciples on the road to Emmaus. “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). The immensity of the beauty that I saw off the Million Dollar Highway did not keep me from taking pictures with my puny cell phone. The immensity of the beauty of the gospel should not render a believer in Jesus Christ speechless. With inadequate vocabulary to describe the gospel’s beauty, we speak nonetheless. The stumbling and bumbling witness of one who has seen the beauty of Christ is more powerful any human logic. “Forced to leave home base, the followers of Jesus all became missionaries. Wherever they were scattered, they preached the Message about Jesus” (Acts 8:4, MSG).
