The Messenger THE TWO PASSIONS OF SHARING CHRIST By Lakan Mariano My friend Roy Langton seemed to know every good eating place in San Angelo, and he not only told me about them, he took me to those places. When you have tasted something good you want to share it with others.
When you have tasted the joy and delight of Jesus you cannot help but share Him with others. That is one passion of evangelism. You are so excited about what you have discovered in Christ that you talk about Him all the time to anyone anywhere. Jesus simply oozes out of you. The other passion of evangelism is knowing the horrible consequence of rejecting Christ, of spending eternity away from God in hell. If we love someone we would warn him about eternal separation from God and eternal punishment. “This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:4950). As horrible as hell is it is even worse for those who not only reject Christ as their God but worship the antiChrist and Satan: “They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever” (Revelation 14:10-11). In the utter darkness and torment of hell they will see the beauty and the majesty and the goodness and the love and the grace and kindness of the One they rejected. Evangelism is not a program we have at church. It should be the heartbeat of every believer. “… for us, there’s no question—we can’t keep quiet about what we’ve seen and heard” (Acts 4:20, MSG).
