The Messenger GRIPPED By Lakan Mariano There are a lot of things in life we don’t understand. I was once visiting a young woman at the hospital. She said bitterly, “They said that this disease hits one out over 750,000 people. Why do I have to be that one?” The psalmist Asaph struggled with his woes while seeing the prosperity of those who have no thought whatsoever about God. “… my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles” (Psalm 73:2-4). Yes, life at times does not make sense, or worse, is not fair. Whenever believers in Jesus Christ struggle with those thoughts, we need to run to that which we know. That was what Asaph did. “When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny” (Psalm 73:16-17). Seeing the long view gives us God’s perspective. The rough times seem so rough and long, but they are not, compared to the glories Jesus has in store for you. You may feel all alone in your struggles, but listen to what Asaph discovered: “… as for me, continually I am with You; You have gripped my right hand” (Psalm 73:23). Jesus is not casually holding on to you. He is gripping your hand, holding on to you tight. “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you” (Isaiah 41:10, MSG). Don’t let the things you do not understand trouble you. Rest in what you know. ~Lakan
