The Messenger RECIPE FOR FEASTING ON GOD’S WORD By Lakan Mariano Kim had tons of recipes. She had recipes on index cards filed in a nice recipe box that our friend Ronnie Brown made for her. She had cookbooks from every imaginable chef. I used to weigh a svelte 160 pounds until I married Kim. I had been so blessed to savor so many delicious dishes during our married life. Kim was able to cook those wonderful meals because she had the recipes. Many believers in Jesus Christ do not enjoy the sumptuous banquet that the Lord has for us in His Word because they do not know the recipe for reading and observing the text of scriptures. For some, reading the Bible is like reading directions in a different language. When I served as the Sunday School and Discipleship resource person for the Concho Valley Baptist Association in the past, I scheduled for us to have a training for how to study the Bible. I remember a woman in one of those workshops telling me, “I have been teaching Sunday school for twenty years and no one has ever shown me how to do study the Bible.” Tonight, we start a class on “How to Study the Bible,” where we will learn how to observe the text, interpret it, and apply it. It will be held at the Concho Valley Baptist Association on Main Street, 6 pm to 9 pm. It will be a twelve-week course with another week for presentations. Books are $20 each. Come join us! ~Lakan In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information
