The Messenger WHEN YOU GET VERY BUSY By Lakan Mariano Time with God is often the first casualty of our busyness. Time with God is precisely what believers need when we get busy. In Luke’s gospel account, in chapter 5, we find Jesus teaching a large crowd that had gathered around Him by the Sea of Galilee. Then He took Peter fishing to show Peter who He was. Then they went to a town where Jesus healed a man with leprosy. News quickly spread about the Miracle Healer and soon Jesus was again surrounded by crowds who wanted to hear His teaching and needed healing. Jesus was in big demand, people clamoring for His attention. He could have easily filled His appointment calendar. But He didn’t. We can certainly learn from what He did. “But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray” (Luke 5:16). Don't miss the first word of the verse. It is the word "but." It contrasts what Jesus did-slipped away to be alone and pray--to the demands on His time. It was an intentional act. If Jesus needed time to pray, how much more do you and I need to do the same? The busier we get, the more we need time with God—for His strength, His perspective, His wisdom, His agenda, His heartbeat. ~Lakan In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information

Sundays: Bible Study - 9:30am Upstairs Youth Room Wednesdays: Outbreak - 6:00pm Upstairs Youth Room In Isaiah 30, the people of Israel put more trust and stock in what Egypt could do for them than God. God's response is scathing but hopeful for a wandering, noncommittal person like me: 1. Anything you find hope in besides the Holy One of Israel will result in your humiliation ("Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation" Isaiah 30:3). 2. 2. The solution for a rebellious people (all of us): "In repentance and rest you will be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength" (Isaiah 30:15). Ironically, the solution to our wandering is repentance, literally "returning" constantly to the Lord. We are also to "rest" in who He is and not who we are. Our "strength" is actually when we are at peace/"quietness/calm" because of our "trust" on God's work on our behalf. Such a beautiful picture of our salvation in Christ. It is not by our own works, but by faith alone and grace alone! Our faith is not characterized by our ability to live for Christ but by God's ability to "bind our wandering heart" to Him. ~Trevor
