The Messenger REMEMBER By Lakan Mariano We easily forget. “But they soon forgot what the LORD had done and did not wait for His plan to unfold” (Psalm 106:13). Surely the excitement of the Lord Jesus feeding the 5,000 men plus all the women and the children were still fresh in their hearts and minds. From only five loaves of bread and two fish, each of the twelve disciples carried a basket of leftovers after everyone was satisfied (Matthew 14:13-21). And, just so the disciples did not forget, the Lord Jesus did the same thing by feeding 4,000 men plus all the women and children (Matthew 15:29-39). Surely, the religious knew what Jesus did, and yet they asked Him for a sign. As Jesus and His disciples went across the lake, He warned the disciples to be on their guard against the yeast or the sin of unbelief of the Pharisees, the religious leaders. The disciples were so much like many believers today, they totally missed Jesus’ point. They thought He talked about the yeast of the Pharisees because they forgot to bring bread with them. This is after watching Jesus feed the 5,000 and then the 4,000. This is after they carried basketful of leftovers. Jesus tells us, “I tell you, do not worry about your life” (Matthew 6:25).
We worry when we forget all the good things that God has done. We worry when we forget that the same God who opened heaven to feed His people and made water gush out of a rock in the desert is the same God believers in Jesus Christ call their Father in heaven. And He will never forget you as His child. He says to you, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands” (Isaiah 49:15-16). Remember and take heart that God will never forget you.
