The Messenger WHEN YOU ARE TOO BUSY By Lakan Mariano It is always a mad rush when I am about to travel. It feels like all the things I have to do cannot possibly fit in the days and hours I have left. Over the years, the Lord has been teaching me through His Word and the example of godly men that the busier I get the more I need to stop and pray. Not just pray while I am busy doing things, and I certainly do that. But I literally have to stop, take a deep breath, spend some time either reading or listening to the Bible, and pray. Jesus did that. Once, Jesus healed a man of leprosy. Jesus told him not to broadcast his healing but quietly present himself to the priest with his offering. “But the man couldn’t keep it to himself, and the word got out. Soon a large crowd of people had gathered to listen and be healed of their ailments” (Luke 5:15, MSG). Big crowd, ministry opportunities, busy, busy, busy. But look at the very next verse Luke records for us: “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). If Jesus needed that undistracted time of prayer with the Father, how much more do you and I need it? To calm ourselves down, to give us perspective about our schedule, to give the energy we need for the tasks at hand. You and I can accomplish so much more if we will take the time to spend with the Lord. You cannot squeeze God out of your busy schedule and be productive. ~Lakan
