The Messenger UNHURRIED By Lakan Mariano Not getting to go to Baguio last Saturday to visit with churchplanters and visit their church-planting sites was disappointing but not troubling because I know that the Lord was perfectly in charge of what was going on. I was, however, praying for wisdom on how best to use our time to minister to people. Sunday, Greg Loudermilk and I got to spend some sweet time with my family. Monday, we were privileged to visit a friend and coworker who was in the hospital. It was a precious time of reminiscing and laughing and crying and scripture reading and prayer. Later that afternoon we had an early supper with another friend who has been doing church-planting for the last seventeen years in an unreached people group. Again, it was a sweet, unhurried time of fellowship. Yesterday, as I was having my morning time with the Lord, I asked Him again for wisdom on how best to use our time to minister to people. It was then the Lord reminded me of my unhurried time in the Word that morning, when I read leisurely for a long time, pausing to cross- reference passages, and thinking through some of the texts. I had also stepped out into the back porch and watched the sunrise as I spent time in prayer. After breakfast, I spent more time in the Word reading and studying. Again, I was unhurried. Last night, Greg and our hosts at the World Team Mission house-Tonton and Nona Caballero, and their son Ken--had a leisurely supper at a nearby restaurant. It was a delicious time of sharing food and life stories. I was praying for wisdom on how to minister to people when the Lord showed me I am the one who needs ministering to, by Him. I could imagine the Lord Jesus telling me, "Come with Me... to a quiet place and get some rest" (Mark 6:31). It has been a while since I have had this kind of unhurried, restful time. I am so thankful that my Lord knows my needs better than I do. Are you always busy? Always in a hurry? Jesus invites you, "Come with Me... to a quiet place and get some rest." — at St. Ignatius White Plains. In This Issue From the Pastor
