The Messenger PRECIOUS GIFT By Lakan Mariano Growing up going to church regularly I heard the command: “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5). I wanted to, but I could not. Every time I lost my temper, every lustful thought, every lie I perpetrated, every prideful look or word, every vengeful attitude—they all highlighted my inability to love God with ALL my heart, with ALL my soul, with ALL my strength. But praise be to God! For what I could not, cannot do, God did for me in Christ. “The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live” (Deuteronomy 30:6). What I could not follow perfectly as a command (Deuteronomy 6:5), God gave to me as a gift (Deuteronomy 30:6).
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the GIFT of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9, emphasis mine). That was what Jesus did for me, for us, on the cross. "For our sake he made him (Christ) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21). ~Lakan In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Summer Events Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information Office Hours
