The Messenger UNMASKING THE LIES By Lakan Mariano
Deception is the devil’s most effective weapon against people. It was his method at the Garden: “Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning” (2 Corinthians 11:3). It will be his method at the end of time: “When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth” (Revelation 20:7-8). And deception is his most effective weapon against us today. It is interesting to note what Jesus did when the devil tempted Him in the wilderness. Every time the devil hurled a deception at Jesus, He responded with the truth from God’s Word. “It is written” (Luke 4:4, 8, 10). The use of God’s Word in resisting the seduction of the devil is not like using magic. You do not speak God’s Word like sorcery, thinking that by simply saying something from the Bible will drive the devil away. The power of God’s Word is in unmasking the devil’s lies by speaking the truth. That was what Jesus did. That is what believers in Jesus Christ need to do. One of the lies the devil feeds Christians is that a little bit of devotion to Christ is sufficient: tipping God, occasional Bible reading, convenient church attendance, prayer as an emergency kit. But it is written: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). Here is another one: knowing Christ is accumulating information about Him without falling in love with Him. But it is written: “But you walked away from your first love—why? What’s going on with you, anyway? In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information
Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen? A Lucifer fall! Turn back! Recover your dear early love” (Revelation 2:4-5, MSG). The truth will unmask the devil every single time. Unmasking his lies will keep you from falling prey to his schemes and live joyously as a Christian. ~ Lakan
