The Messenger GOD'S PROTECTIVE PRESENCE By Lakan Mariano God's protective presence is always near to the believer in Jesus Christ. David, who wrote Psalm 139, was not without problems. Amazed and incredulous about God's presence he asks, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (v. 7).
The answer to his question “where,” is nowhere. Not in the highest heights nor the lowest lows. “If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there” (v. 8). Not in any moment, any second of the of the most obscure hour, nor in the remotest of places. “If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me” (vv. 9-10). God's protective presence leading and guiding the believer in the wilderness of life (v. 9), and the confident assurance that the believer is in the loving grip of the Savior (v. 10). But just as the believer settles in the Lord's comfortable protection, he is accosted by calamity, by dark clouds that block the sun. It happens to all of us. Believers are not exempt from the troubles of life. “If I say, 'Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,'” (v. 11)
We appreciate the time we got to spend teaching God's word at Imani Radio in Kitale.
Troubles can overwhelm you, troubles can feel like they are crushing you (“overwhelm” is the same word translated “crush” in Genesis 3:15), extinguishing the light of hope, even there God's protective presence assures us, strengthens us, for

“Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You” (v. 12). The eyes of faith looks to the Lord and sees him and trusts him. More importantly, the eyes of faith lets the believer know that there is no darkness so dark that it will hide us from his protective watchcare. “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!” (v. 12, MESSAGE). Oh, yes!
