The Messenger GOD HEARS YOUR PRAYERS By Lakan Mariano Jesus Christ is not some pagan god who has to be coaxed out of his habitation to hear the prayers of his people. “They used every religious trick and strategy they knew to make something happen on the altar, but nothing happened—not so much as a whisper, not a flicker of response” (1 Kings 18:29, MSG). These were the priests of Baal at Mount Carmel trying to get a rise out of their god. Some believers treat Christ in the same way, coming up with man-made formulas on how to get Christ to respond to them. Except you don't have to coax Christ as if He is hiding. He is as near as our prayers. “God’s there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it” (Psalm 145:18, MSG). Even when believers don't feel His presence He is there because His Word said so. “Even when I must walk through the dark valley of death, I fear no danger, for You, LORD, are with me” (Psalm 23:4). And Jesus is not just there when believers pray. He is there all the time. “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). Many think they have to use many words or the right words or just the right intonation to conjure up the presence of God. Some offer a sure-fire formula for getting your prayers answered. But believers in Jesus Christ only have to trust His Word, that He hears us even before the words are in our tongues (Psalm 139:4). So, relax, and enjoy talking to the Lord. He is a Person who delights in His children coming to Him.
