The Messenger THANKSGIVING IS MORE THAN SAYING THANKS By Lakan Mariano Two blind men were sitting by the gate of Jericho as Jesus and his disciples were leaving the city. When the blind men heard it was Jesus, they shouted to him, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus called for them and asked what they wanted. They replied, “We want our sight.” “Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and FOLLOWED HIM.” (Matthew 20:29-34). Another time, Jesus and his disciples saw a man blind from birth. Jesus spit on the ground, made some mud from his saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes, and told the man to go to the Pool of Siloam and wash. The man did and he went home seeing. The religious leaders chastised the man and after interrogating him they threw him out. “Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and HE WORSHIPED HIM.” (John 9). Once, Jesus and his disciples sailed across the Sea of Galilee in the region of the Gerasenes. They were met by a man possessed by evil spirits who went about naked, lived in tomb, and who was so strong he broke the chains that bound him. After Jesus delivered the man from the evils spirits, the man begged Jesus to allow him to go with them. Jesus told him, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” “So the man went away and TOLD ALL OVER TOWN HOW MUCH JESUS HAD DONE FOR HIM.” (Luke 8:26-39). When these men experienced God’s blessing and realized who Jesus was they did not say, “Thank you,” then went about their way. They followed Jesus, worshiped him, and proclaimed to people what Jesus had done for them. Thanksgiving is much more than saying, “Thanks.” ~ Lakan
