The Messenger CHRIST OUR LIGHT By Lakan Mariano The darkness of sin and its curse paints everything in our world a drab gray, like a long endless winter night. It dampens hope, it saps your strength, and sets one on a long path of despair and gloom. We are all prisoners in this dark and stark landscape. “They will look up to heaven and down at the earth, but wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and dark despair. They will be thrust into the darkness” (Isaiah 8:21-22). But just when mankind seemed to have been swallowed up alive by the darkness, light breaks forth, bringing life and hope and joy.

“But there will be no gloom for those who were in distress… The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (Isaiah 9:1, 2). The light that the Prophet Isaiah prophesied about was no mere luminescence but the light of the Lord Jesus Christ. “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness…” (John 1:4-5). Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). It is fitting that so much of our Christmas traditions involves lights. For the incarnation of the Second Person of the Triune God signals for us the seriousness of God in fulfilling His promise of redeeming mankind, of dispelling the darkness of sin and its curse by what Jesus would eventually do at the cross. And when a person responds to Christ by faith Christ’s very life is the light that shines forth in and through the believer. I pray that you we will see Christ for who he is, the Light of the world, the Light that dispels the darkness of our sins and the darkness of hopelessness. I pray that we will see Christ as the Light that leads us daily as believers until we are finally home. In This Issue “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of From the Pastor God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its AWANA Clubs light” (Revelation 21:23-24). Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information

May the light of Jesus bring you life, and hope, and joy. May His light bring out the God-colors in the world around you. May the light of Christ fill your hearts with a joy that is inexpressible and full of glory. ~Lakan
