The Messenger SIMPLE JOYS By Lakan Mariano The full moon seemed to stand just a few yards away lighting my way as I headed north on Hiway 87 heading to Pampa early morning last Friday. I had to grab my steering wheel as the wind pushed my Ford Escape eastward, dodging tumbleweeds sprinting on to the hiway from the fields to my left.

Driving alone on this road takes me back to familiar emotions when Kim and I and our children spent Thanksgiving or Christmas with the Bruces. Images flash like short video clips—our family gathered in a circle around the island in the kitchen, holding hands, Wallace leading us in prayer as we thanked God for his blessings; of Kim, still in her pajamas cooking and baking in Mimi Bruce's kitchen, visiting with everyone; kids playing in the swimming pool that has been converted to a play area; Doreen announcing to me that she has prepared giblet gravy, and everyone chuckling as I douse my whole plate with that delicious gooey substance. I smiled with delight as I replayed those memories in my head. What made me smile was so simple a lot of people miss it. Family. Friends. Love and acceptance. Forgiveness. Laughter. Food. Simple conversations. Prayer. More food. They told me when I got to Pampa that Wayne Bruce even left some dressing for the birds to enjoy (ala Francis of Assissi). In all the happy noise and the hustle and bustle, Wallace and Doreen Bruce have lovingly presided over their brood. Now, that is replicated in the lives of their children and their families. There is no perfect family. When I think about the Bruces and the times I have spent with them like these last two days, what I have learned over the years is how normal it is for them to talk about the Lord Jesus and instinctively run to him in prayer. I thought about God's promise to the man, the husband, the father, who fears and trusts the Lord, In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Events & Upcoming Dates Ministry Opportunity Youth Ministries College Ministries Contact Information

“Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD” (Psalm 128:1-4)
