The Messenger FREE TO REJOICE! You would not spot his face but Mel Gibson appeared in the movie he directed in 2004, The Passion of the Christ. The scene showed just his left arm portraying the arm of a Roman soldier about to drive the spike into the hand of Jesus.
In This Issue From the Pastor AWANA Clubs Save the Date Youth Updates
Children’s Ministries Extended Session Youth Ministries I can identify with that scene. Knowing that Jesus died for my sins, in a sense I College Ministries Contact Information
was there at the crucifixion of the Lord. My pride, my selfishness, my lusts, my lying—all the sins I have committed and will commit—nailed Jesus on the cross.
“Surely he took up OUR pain and bore OUR suffering... He was pierced for OUR transgressions, He was crushed for OUR in1quities; the punishment that brought US peace was on him, and by his wounds WE are healed. WE all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of US has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of US all” (Isaiah 53:4-6).
Because of the cross, “there is now no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). God poured out the wrath I deserved on his own Son. On the cross, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
If you can rejoice because of Jesus Christ, share that joy with friends and loved ones. INVITE MANY to our Easter service this Sunday; BRING ONE.
