The Messenger SLOW DOWN! “Good morning!” I said cheerfully to the man at the register as I walked in the door. I had stopped late one Friday morning at a sandwich place to get some lunch for Seth and Aiden. The man never looked up nor acknowledged me. So I said it again, “Good morning,” this time with more enthusiasm. Still no response. So I stood in line and waited. Finally, the man finished with what he was doing, walked over to where I was, looked at me as if I was a bother to him, then asked wryly, “What can I get for you?” “First, you can give me some courtesy, by simply acknowledging me walking in your establishment and responding after I said ‘Good morning. Twice.’” “Sir, I was really busy,” he defended himself. God speaking through the Prophet Amos charged the nations with sins against humanity. But against His people, God charged His people with not acknowledging His Word: “Because of the three great sins of Judah —make that four—I’m not putting up with them any longer. They rejected God’s revelation, refused to keep my commands” (Amos 2:4, MSG). Busy! Busy! Busy! Like the man at the sandwich shop many Christians are too busy to respond to the Lord. Too busy to spend time daily in His Word, pray, attend Sunday worship, live in community with other believers. Too busy to realize that all our pursuits of pleasure and happiness find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ as revealed in His Word. God In This Issue said, From the Pastor “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at My Word” (Isaiah 66:2).
