The Messenger PRAYING SCRIPTURES God certainly wants us to come to Him in prayer for our needs. Jesus taught us to pray: “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). God also tells us: “Call for help when you’re in trouble—I’ll help you, and you’ll honor me” (Psalm 50:15). There are times we struggle about what really to pray for. We are not sure whether what we are asking God for is according to God's will or not. One way we can know for sure that we are praying the will of God is to pray His Word, to pray using scriptures. Kim taught me early in our marriage how to do this. One of the scriptures Kim and I have prayed for our kids and their spouses over the years is Ephesians 3:1619: “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” This is how Kim and I have used these scriptures to pray for our family: “I pray, Father, that out of your glorious riches You may strengthen with power through Your Spirit Micah's inner being, so that Christ may be at home in his heart through faith. And I pray that you will give Micah, who is rooted and established in love, together with other believers in the church, the power to fully understand how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for him, and that Micah will know this great love of the Lord Jesus Christ that surpasses knowledge—that Micah will be filled to the full measure of all the fullness of God.”
