Vol. 7 Iss. 23

The Messenger GETTING OUT OF THE DUMPS "I have had enough, LORD. Take my life." That was the prophet Elijah when he was running for his life from Jezebel. The great victory at Mt. Carmel now seemed forgotten. So was the fulfillment of his prophecy that it will rain. So was outrunning the king's chariot to Jezreel, a distance of about seventeen miles from Mt. Carmel. Depression tempts us to turn inward, losing all hope. The prophet was so exhausted that he fell asleep (1 Kings 19:5). It is interesting what God did to revive Elijah. He sent an angel to give him food and water, not just once, but twice (1 Kings 19:5-7). Sleep and food. Rest and nourishment. Even great heroes of the faith need the most basic things.

When Elijah arrived at the mountain of God and God spoke to him, the point is not the "small, still voice" (1 Kings 19:12). That has been used to launch all kinds of misguided adventures. The point is that God spoke to him. And what God said was clear (1 Kings 19:15-18). We all get down. We get depressed. Sometimes, the cure is as simple as rest and nourishment, and all the time, hearing God speak His wonderful promises through His Word, the Bible. -Lakan

The Messenger Father’s Day Lunch (For everyone) The Reformation is more than a fascinating period of history– it significantly impacted the formation of Western civilization. The questions reformers raised remain critical for the church today. Like the reformers, we must still discern what or who is our ultimate authority. Starting Monday, June 5th, we will be studying the history of the church. We would like for you to join us at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for this engaging class.

Come help us celebrate the men in our church with a manly steak and potatoes lunch. June 18th in the fellowship hall immediately following the morning service.
