The Messenger ACT LIKE ONE As a young believer in Jesus Christ, I was scared of Bible passages like 1 Peter 1:15, "But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do." I was scared because I struggled and still struggles with sin. Holiness was like the impossible dream. Until I understood what God is saying...
God is NOT saying do holy things so I can be holy. What He is saying is that because I have been made perfectly holy in Jesus Christ, I should act holy. My holiness is not me stacking up my good works one on top of the other until I finally reach God's standard of holiness. Instead, God came down, died on the cross for me, and when I got saved, He only removed all my sins but He also gave me all of His righteousness. "Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness" (1 Peter 1:14-15, MSG). That is the reason the Bible calls all believers in Jesus Christ, "saints." ("To the saints who are at Ephesus," "To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi.") If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are a saint, you are holy. So act like one! -Lakan
