The Messenger DOES GOD HEAR MY PRAYERS? By Lakan Mariano
Sometimes, your prayers seem so puny, the words almost hollow. Sometimes, you are overcome with the sense that you are simply saying words to no one. But if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, that is not true. He had read those scrolls before. The scrolls, which contained the words of Israel’s prophets and the writings, had become his home, his solace and source of life since he was taken by force from his home almost seventy years before. The scrolls, and prayer. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed. That day as he reread the scrolls of the Prophet Jeremiah, he knew that God’s promise would soon be fulfilled. He wasn’t at a prayer meeting, he wasn’t at a special gathering with dignitaries and religious leaders. Daniel was alone in God’s Word and in prayer. “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For YOUR SAKE, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears YOUR Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For YOUR SAKE, my God, do not delay, because YOUR city and YOUR people BEAR YOUR NAME.” (Daniel 9:17-19, emphasis mine). While Daniel was still praying, the angel Gabriel appeared to him and said, “You had no sooner started your prayer when the answer was given” (Daniel 9:23, MSG). There was another time when Daniel was praying when God’s answer was not as swift. When the angel finally reached Daniel, he told him why. “From the moment you decided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard, and I set out to come to you. But I was waylaid by the angel-prince of the kingdom of Persia and was delayed for a good three weeks” (Daniel 10:12-13, MSG). In This Issue From the Pastor Your prayers, at times, may seem puny and hollow, but your AWANA Clubs prayers can cause quite a stir and a commotion in heaven. So, Events & pray. God hears you.
