Roar into the library for the official kick-off of “Stomp, Chomp, READ!” the 2018 Summer Reading Program! The party signals the official opening of the READ-a-saurus Prize Room, where kids 12 and under can register to earn prizes for the books they read and listen to this summer. For those who have already registered, this is the first day to claim a prize. The evening will feature over-sized photo ops, dino-riffic children’s crafts, activities for aspiring paleontologists, and refreshments. No registration required. For details, call 817.503.1154.

Starting on Tuesday, May 29, participants can begin tracking the number of books they read or the number of minutes they read. Register May 29 through July 20 to receive your reading log. All materials must be checked out from the Colleyville Public Library. Books must be kept at least one night. Keep all reading receipts and attach them to the reading logs provided.

Read or listen to a book, e-book, audiobook, or attend teen or adult programs.

What are the prizes for children, teens, and adults?

For children, the first prize is a summer reading T-shirt and goodie bag, plus an entry form for the grand prize drawing. Subsequent reading rewards are a prize from the READ-a-saurus Prize Room, plus an additional entry form for the grand prize drawing. For teens and adults, complete a prize entry form for each book read or program attended. Weekly drawings will be held in the teen and adult categories. Participants who have entered five forms will receive a t-shirt and be eligible for the grand prize drawing. June 1st is the first day to claim a prize. All prizes must be claimed no later than Saturday, July 21st.

Decorate with red, white, and blue and march on over to celebrate Independence Day with the city’s newest event, Colleyville 4th of July Parade. The parade route will commence on Pleasant Run road, makes its way down Main street and through the village, before culminating in the parking lot south of City Hall, where refreshments will be served. REGISTRATION OPENS FOR CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING Enjoy stories, crafts, and fun activities at the Library during story time. Registration is open to all Library card holders. Programs are available for newborns through grade 5 and last for seven weeks. Chess Club is open to ages 8-15 years. Space is limited, so register early. Preference will be given to Colleyville residents; non-residents will be notified if a spot is available. A staff member will call or email all story time registrants to confirm whether there is a spot available in the class. The Colleyville Public Library makes an effort to include as many children as possible in story time activities that our safety guidelines and staffing constraints allow.

BOUNCE TIME

“ROCKET” READERS

This unstructured library time features a play area and music for our youngest library patrons and their caregivers. Caregiver attendance is required.

Reading is vital for children to succeed in school and in life, but many of them struggle with reading. What better listener than a friendly, non-judgmental dog from the Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs program? These programs are growing in libraries across the country and researchers report a rise in reading levels among participating children. Independent readers (grades 1-5) can bring a favorite book from home or choose one from the Library, and read it to a furry friend while here at the Library! “Rocket” Readers is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.
