Senior Center Membership

Memberships are available to those ages 50 and over. Memberships are required for anyone participating in any senior class, program, or activity, or for anyone using the fitness facility.

Resident membership: No annual fee

Non-resident membership: $10 per year

Memberships will be suspended while renovations are in progress.

Jazzercise Lo-Impact

Use muscles, not momentum to get a total-body workout that brings all the dance fitness fun without the hop. A combination of cardio and strength training for a heart-healthy workout that keeps your body strong. Beyond Fit

For the active adult who wants that extra push! The drive to go Beyond Fit is met here with intensity and function. Challenge yourself to go farther, to work harder, to keep moving! Go beyond where you are! This class will do occasional floor work and use exercise equipment. Bring a water bottle. One pre-recorded class will be sent in Jul. via email. Balance Fit

Let’s explore what balance means to you, how to recover/maintain what you need, and to become more confident in your daily movements. Classes will include step by step breakdowns of basic balance functions and how to modify/challenge yourself to achieve your personal best! Testing done upon entry and bi-monthly to mark progress and gains. One pre-recorded class will be sent in Jul. via email. Brain Fit

Combining fitness, science, and fun, Brain Fit seeks to help fire those motor neurons and create ongoing neuroplasticity to keep your brain on the forward track. Classes will work on language, gross and fine motor skills, auditory cues, and visual training to create an overall positive sense of brain health.

Yoga Flow

Each month begins by exploring the alignment of poses, breath work, and meditation. Class begins with warm-up poses that allow you to stretch deeper and ends with cool-down poses to release muscles, allowing a deep relaxation. Each class adds poses, creating a fun flow, synchronizing with each breath. No experience necessary, class is designed to provide options for all levels.

Pilates - Strength & Core

Pilates - Strength & Core is designed for active adults to help strengthen and tone your body, increase flexibility and balance, as well as improve bone density, posture, and coordination. Pilates mat exercises will work everything from your abdominal/core muscles, to the tip of your toes to your shoulders – toning and strengthening where needed and increasing flexibility when appropriate. An upper body strength training segment will follow the mat exercises, utilizing light weights. Along with improving your overall fitness level, this class will leave you feeling refreshed, without stress or strain to your joints. Modifications included for all levels. Please bring a thick mat and a set of two or three-pound weights.

Drum Fit - Strength and Stretch

Tap buckets, chairs, and floors to fresh tunes, movements, and drum patterns. New routines are introduced every four weeks. Strengthen and stretch at the end while having dazzling fun responding to the music!

Line Dancing

Beginner class is for students with previous dance experience. Students should be capable of learning basic steps: grapevine, chasse, jazz box, etc. Routines up to 48 counts may include rhythms like Waltz or Cha Cha and tempos are slow to moderate. Improver students need previous dance experience and basic skills. Dances will introduce new step patterns: coaster step, rolling grapevines, swivets, etc. Routines up to 64 counts may include various tempos and rhythms and feature pauses, syncopation, timing variations, etc.

You Can Oil Paint a Masterpiece

Even if you’ve never held a paint brush or can’t draw a straight line you will be amazed at the beautiful oil painting you can create in one inspiring lesson. Beginners learn basics of color mixing, brushstrokes, and perspective while completing a landscape, seascape, or still life in this fun and easy class taught by award-winning instructor, Christen Garden. All supplies; canvas, paint, brushes, medium, easel, detailed lesson plan, and instruction are provided. Bring paper towels and wear old clothes. A $20 supply fee is due to the instructor the day of the class.

SENIOR CENTER DANCE & ART 33

Sit & Stitch

Do you do needlepoint, cross stitch, ribbon embroidery, hand embroidery, beading, knitting, crochet, or anything with a needle in hand? If so, come sit and stitch each Tue. morning with fellow needleworkers, beginner to advanced needleworkers are welcome. This is not an instructional class but rather an opportunity to wield needles in the presence of others, but there is plenty of collective advice and knowledge to be shared for anyone who may need a helping hand.

Contract Bridge Lessons

All experience levels, beginner to intermediate, are welcome. Class is taught by ACBL certified instructors. Instructors will provide information for purchasing a recommended class text book at the first class meeting. Registration required.

AARP Smart Driver Course

Improve driving skills and be more aware of other drivers to ensure greater safety on the road. This course may be used to qualify for insurance discounts based on your insurance carrier’s business decisions; however, it cannot be used for dismissal of a ticket. Registration and a current drivers license are required. Pay fees at the time of class with cash or a check. All instructional materials and certificates of completion are provided at the end of class.

Join the fun as Senior Center members visit various locations, both near and far. Venues will vary from sports and education to entertainment and special interest. Transportation is provided and will depart from the Senior Center. Payment is non-refundable and is due at the time of registration.

Parker County Peach Festival

There’s no better way to beat the summer heat than by partaking of some peachy treats! Visitors can get their fill of homemade peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach pie, peach juleps, peach tea, peach smoothies, ice cream topped with fresh peaches, or just plain ole’ juicy peaches, eaten with the fuzz! More than 200 quality arts, crafts, produce, and food vendors will line the historic streets of downtown Weatherford, with the charming Parker County Courthouse as the backdrop!
