ZIP IN FOR A LIBRARY CARD!

Adventure awaits! September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. All month long we’ll be encouraging our patrons to “Zip into the Library for a card today!” We encourage our community to stop in and visit the Help Desk to register for your very own Library card and begin your adventure.

There are many ways to participate and win prizes for all ages.

• Check out a book, CD, audiobook or DVD.

By showing your library card, renewing, or signing up for a card, you will earn an entry into the Grand Prize drawing for a $50 gift card or an all-new Fire HD10 from Amazon. Our young patrons may participate for a chance to win an all-new Fire HD10 Kids Pro Tablet. In support of our local businesses, check out any five library items (i.e., books, DVDs, magazines, STEAM kit, etc.) and earn a drawing entry for a chance to win a $25 gift card from one of our local businesses.

Grab your complimentary eclipse glasses at the Library and join the viewing party for this year’s Annular Solar Eclipse. The maximum eclipse will be at 11:52 a.m. Enjoy crafts and a snack!

CHECK & TREAT

Have your Halloween costume all ready to go? Great! Stop by the Colleyville Public Library (in costume, of course), check out any Library material and get a yummy treat from us! Stop by anytime between 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31st for the Library’s fourth- annual Check & Treat event. All children and adult Library card holders are eligible to participate. Additionally, if you check out items in costume, you will receive a special holiday item. Everyone must be present to receive a treat – either in person or in your vehicle at the drive-up window.

Buddy & Holly Library Landing

It’s official! Buddy and Holly, the Library elves, are returning to Colleyville Public Library! They will travel from the North Pole to visit Library staff and spread Christmas cheer. Buddy and Holly’s favorite thing to do is…read of course! Their favorite book is Click Clack, Ho, Ho, Ho. Buddy and Holly may be spotted in December until Christmas Break, doing the things that they love to do around this time of year!

Holiday Storywalk®

Follow the wintery story pages around the plaza to find what happens during this year’s Holiday Storywalk®. Each story board has a different activity to encourage comprehension skills and enhance the fun! Optional activity sheets are available at the first sign by the fountain. Participants may turn in their completed activity sheet to the Library Help Desk for a prize.

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING

Enjoy stories, crafts, and fun activities during the Library’s story times. Registration opens Tuesday, September 5th at 10:00 a.m. Registration is open to all Library card holders. Programs are available for newborns through grade 5 and last for twelve weeks. Space is limited, so register early. Preference will be given to Colleyville residents; non-residents will be notified if space is available.

To register, go to ColleyvilleLibrary.com. Under PROGRAMS & EVENTS, click on the CALENDAR link. Find the class that you want to register for then click on the REGISTER button. Caregivers must fill out one registration form per child.

**PLEASE NOTE**: Submission of a story time registration form DOES NOT guarantee the child a spot in the class. Registration requests will be processed as quickly as possible in the order they are received. A staff member will call or email all story time registrants to confirm whether there is a spot available in the class.

“ROCKET” READERS

Reading is vital for children to succeed in school and in life, but many of them struggle with reading. What better listener than a friendly, non-judgmental dog from the Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs program? These programs are growing in Libraries across the country and researchers report a rise in reading levels among participating children. Independent readers (grades 1-5) can bring a favorite book from home or choose one from the Library, and read it to a furry friend while here at the Library!
