Reading is vital for children to succeed in school and in life, but many of them struggle with reading. They often feel selfconscious and hate to read aloud in class. What better listener than a friendly, nonjudgmental dog from the Heart of Texas Therapy Dog program? These programs are growing in libraries across the country and researchers report a rise in reading levels among participating children. Independent readers (grades 1-5) can bring a favorite book from home or choose one from the library, and read it to a furry friend while here at the library! “Rocket” Readers is conducted on a first-come, firstserved basis.
