Cody joined the Colleyville team in July 2012 and has played a vital role in creating a warm and welcoming environment to the Senior Center and it’s members due to his kind and patient demeanor. He is a proud UNT alum, go Mean Green! In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing at various golf courses. Cody oversees the daily operations of the Senior Center.

Torie joined the Colleyville team in April 2024. Her background is in active adult recreation. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her son, lifting weights, and hiking in the mountains. She even competes in kettlebell sport with hopes to compete with Team USA at the world championship! Torie's responsibilities will include coordinating volunteers, senior programs, and sponsor stewardship for the Senior Center.

Senior Center Membership

Memberships are available to those ages 50 and over. Memberships are required for anyone participating in any senior class, program, or activity, or for anyone using the fitness facility.

Resident membership: No annual fee

Non-resident membership: $10 per year

Chair-Drumming Choreo, Strength and Stretch

Each class starts and ends in a chair; but in between, you won't stay there. Tap quiet foam sticks with Ms. Joley, your muscles tone as you learn patterns and get groovy. There is a discount available when registering for multiple classes in the same month. You must register through the Senior Center either in-person or over the phone to receive the discount.

Yoga Flow

Each month begins by exploring the alignment of poses, breath work, and meditation. Class begins with warm-up posesthatallowyoutostretch deeper and ends with cool-down poses to release muscles, allowing a deep relaxation. Each class adds poses, creating a fun flow, synchronizing with each breath. The last class of each month will feature a Yin Yoga session. No experience necessary, class is designed to provide options for all levels. No class Jul. 4.

Senior Fit

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, balance, and range of movement and activities for daily living. Bring your hand-held weights and a mat. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. Don't forget your water bottle! No class May 27.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga practiced in a chair. The class begins seated and moves to standing with or without using a chair for balance.

Participants may choose to stay seated the entire time. Chair Yoga helps increase strength, flexibility, balance, and mind-body awareness. Research shows benefits may include lower levels of stress, anxiety, depression, blood pressure, cholesterol, and pain.

SENIOR CENTER FITNESS CLASSES 31

for seniors to maintain and improve balance while also helping to increase strength, flexibility, and stamina. As a low impact exercise, Tai Chi promotes mental and physical health. Starting with a warm up of standing stretches, the class will work on a standard form of slow movements that flow together seamlessly. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. No class May 27.

Senior Resistance Training

Light weight training is an important part of a healthy life style for people of all ages, but it is especially beneficial for people 50 and over. As we age, we lose muscle mass and bone density, which can lead to a decline in balance, mobility, and coordination. Sara is a personal trainer with over 20 years of experience focusing on core strength and injury prevention. Understanding your needs will help to customize her instruction and ensure you benefit from every class. Please bring your own dumbbells and an exercise mat. Beginner Line Dancing

Beginner class is for students with previous dance experience. Students should be capable of learning basic steps: grapevine, chasse, jazz box, etc. Routines up to 48 counts may include rhythms like Waltz or Cha Cha and tempos are slow to moderate.

Water Color

Learn to watercolor! Join Mrs. Atchley for an engaging and inspiring class. You will be learning basic watercolor skills as well as fun techniques and tricks. During this class, each student will create a lovely set of hand painted note cards. No drawing or painting skills required. Mrs. Atchley brings 25 years of teaching experience and is a credentialed art teacher. A $15 supply fee is due to the instructor the day of the class.

Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is a Chinese game of skill, strategy, and calculation using tiles with symbols and pictures. It is played similar to the card game Rummy in that you “draw” and “discard” tiles in an attempt to match them to win the game. Join this friendly game on Friday mornings.

Contract Bridge Lessons

All experience levels, beginner to intermediate, are welcome. Class is taught by ACBL certified instructors. Instructors will provide information for purchasing a recommended class text book at the first class meeting. Registration required. No class May 27.

Sit and Stitch

Do you do needlepoint, cross stitch, ribbon embroidery, hand embroidery, beading, knitting, crochet, or anything with a needle in hand? If so, come sit and stitch each Tue. morning with fellow needleworkers, beginner to advanced needleworkers are welcome. This is not an instructional class but rather an opportunity to wield needles in the presence of others, but there is plenty of collective advice and knowledge to be shared for anyone who may need a helping hand.

Metroport Meals on Wheels

Enjoy coffee, treats, and games in the morning. Lunch is served at noon. Bingo begins after lunch. Those 90 and over eat for free. Confused by Medicare?

Whether you are aging into Medicare this year or are already enrolled, come to this complimentary workshop which will cover part A, B, C, and D of this government health benefit that can be quite confusing. Come and learn more about the basics and intricacies of Medicare at this session which will be hosted by Matt Curry, a licensed insurance agent. Topics to be covered include the differences between basic government Medicare, Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, Part D drug plans, and former employer supplemental coverage available to some participants. This is an educational event so no need to bring your checkbook. This event is for you to relax and ask questions to be better informed about your choices. If you need individual help Matt does represent a number of insurance companies’ plans and will schedule follow up appointments. Seating is limited so reservations are required. AARP Smart Driver Course

Improve driving skills and be more aware of other drivers to ensure greater safety on the road. This course may be used to qualify for insurance discounts based on your insurance carrier’s business decisions; however, it cannot be used for dismissal of a ticket. Registration and a current drivers license are required. Pay fees at the time of class with cash or a check. All instructional materials and certificates of completion are provided at the end of class.

21st Annual Texas Steak Cookoff

The Original Texas Steak Cookoff event takes place in the Historic Downtown Business District of Hico, Texas. This family-friendly event offers a chance to look on as backyard chefs from all over the southwest compete to see who cooks the best steak in Texas. Eat a steak and enjoy artisan vendors, local shopping, and live music on the main stage. Ticket price includes a steak dinner and appetizer tastings during the day. A wine tasting ticket will be available to purchase onsite the day of the event for an additional $30.

TX Whiskey Ranch Tour and Tasting

Come experience the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi located on the historic former grounds of the Glen Garden Country Club.
