Hearth!
Hearth (Home) - Yale Building Project 2024
Yale School of Architecture
Critics: Laura Briggs & Adam Hopfner - Spring 2024
Group Members: Christina Lufkin, Adimchi Atisele, Mckenna Sabon, & Justin Levelle
The form of the home is a simple L shape that consists of three distinct spaces, with generous thresholds forming the boundary between the two private units and the shared space in the center. These thresholds are both passageways and functional storage solutions, including coat closets, bookshelves, and media consoles, with the bathroom tucked away inside of them. The optimized cores become the “hearths” of each unit: the hearth as a symbol of one’s home was the inspiration to articulate everything the residents need in one convenient location.

54 Howard Street New Haven, CT
On the exterior, these hearth spaces are expressed through skylights that puncture through the roof, creating a sculptural beauty that carries through to the smallest detail of the home.
As a home with two families, the space is configured to simplify the lives of the residents. Living rooms are placed near the boundary to the shared kitchen, while the bedrooms are placed at the far ends of each unit, providing necessary separation for each resident. Each dwelling’s private bathroom and laundry are located conveniently close to the bedrooms.
The home is oriented within the surrounding landscape to enhance the balance of private and shared space. The intimate private courtyard entry provides
a space for the residents to use, whether for relaxation after a long day at work, or for a safe, bounded place for children to play. Adjacent to the kitchen, the residents can enjoy a shared deck that acts as a gentle yet dynamic connection to the existing and future FCC homes.
We hope through careful consideration, the duality of the home as a place for connectivity and interaction as well as a space for peace around a hearth can come to fruition.

The Netherlands takes on the glass blowing artisan.
Yale School of Architcture
Critic: Brennan Buck - Fall 2023
A spiritual program derailed by the glass blowing artisan allowed a celebration of materiality, the execution of color, and viewership in a sort of building corpse, or BLDG; a building that is simultaneously not. Based on artwork inspired by the geometric style of Wassily Kandinsky, the BLDG starts to take form by breaking the pattern into parts of a single puzzle. Set in Rotterdam, Netherlands the site overtakes the Kunthstal in winter. A glass blowing studio and exhibition space that produces two grains of space, one for the artisan, and the other for the spectator.
Renderings done in Vray & Rhino. Drawings are rendered and use Illustrator.

Located on the corner lot of Salt Creek Road & Transformation Drive in Lincoln, Nebraska, KÖPRÜ is a facility that focuses on bridging the gap between the community of Nebraska and innovative dairy farming. KÖPRÜ’s mission is to educate the citizens of Nebraska on dairy farming and its processes through exploration and animal interaction.

Site Plan
The site plan is inspired by the different landscapes of the midwest. To create a unique user experience from the parking lot to the builidng itself, the site creates hubs and community spaces by stacking, intersecting, and wrapping circulation routes. The main sidewalk continues into the site by bisecting the public parking lot and splits into a main path of travel and a meandering path. This meandering path elevates the user experience by pulling you into the natural landscape of Nebraska and encourages play along the way.
