Chairman’s Message This is indeed a poignant moment for us all at Colombo Dockyard as we celebrate 20 fruitful years of our collaborative partnership with Onomichi Dockyard of Japan.

We felt it was only fitting that we gather our thoughts and recollect the path that led us to where we are today. It is a celebration of the glorious history which has made us who we are today. We have evolved through time, holding firm to certain indelible values, while embracing bold new frontiers.

Over the years we have grown in strength and stature, gaining wisdom and experience with each step.

The container carrier Safmarine Ngami called in for her first special survey and drydocking repairs to Colombo on the 18th of January. Colombo Dockyard was selected on the excellent repairs carried out on MV. Maersk Ronneby also owned by the same owners during February 2012.

I wish to draw your focus to a specific moment in our distinguished past. The year was 1993, a defining moment for Colombo Dockyard. We were confident that the proposed strategic alliance with Onomichi Dockyard would be the harbinger of good fortune in the years ahead and we were right. The tactical move on the part of the Japanese too, proved to be mutually beneficial as evidenced by Colombo Dockyard’s performance in the ensuing years. Almost immediately Colombo Dockyard was able to reap the benefits of change, helped also by the strong historical ties between the two countries.

The Colombo Dockyard was the best option for the owners/ managers given the strategic location placing the vessel on the trading route, the vessel discharged her containers in the Port of Colombo and shifted directly into drydocks for her lay-up repairs.

The similarities in the cultural dynamics and social value systems of the two countries eased our transition to a hybrid of Sri Lankan/Japanese corporate philosophy. Over the years we have also gained immeasurably from Onomichi’s experience and superior technical know-how.

we continue to embrace each milestone with humility, as we march forward in our journey towards even greater things.

After nearly forty years in existence we are ready to celebrate the 20th year of our enduring partnership with Onomichi Dockyard Company Limited of Japan. As I recall the many milestones to our credit, I would consider the partnership with Onomichi as the pivotal point in our long and illustrious journey so far. We are indebted to Onomichi Dockyard for their decision to invest in us 20 years ago, despite the fragile business environment in the country at the time. Onomichi’s decision came at an opportune moment when Colombo Dockyard was seeking stability and structure. We are thankful for their inspired leadership and their continued faith and confidence in our abilities. In the ensuing years many of our operational practices were revamped. Under the expertise of our Japanese partner we sought to weed out incompetence and trim inefficiencies, thereby gaining a solid foothold on international competitiveness. In the years since the collaboration we have also been greatly influenced by the Japanese value culture.

The egalitarian, people oriented approach of the Japanese management model has been an inspiration to us at Colombo Dockyard. Their equitable philosophy that promotes an inclusive approach motivated us to refine our own thinking. And so we have borrowed from these values and demanded a more proactive contribution from all our employees. I strongly believe that this has intensified our team spirit and nurtured our loyalty towards the company.

Throughout the ages, marine services has remained the livewire of global economic growth. As the only marine service provider in the country, Colombo Dockyard provides a unique platform to display Sri Lanka on the world stage.

From the fledgling operation that commenced in 1974, we have grown to be a dynamic organisation, an indestructible force in the forefront of Sri Lanka’s economic development and a source of national pride. However, we have always remained true to our conventional values. Following a simple, diligent work ethic, we have accepted our accomplishments with subtle grace and tried always to steer clear of any excessive publicity. But at this very significant juncture in our history, I believe it is time that we celebrate with some pomp and pageantry. Let us now sit back and relive our memories and rejoice in where it has led us to today.

In understanding ourselves, we realise that we are indeed distinct and different. It is only fitting that we embrace this individuality and let the world know what we are capable of. Our forte has always been ship building and ship repair services. We are proud to have nurtured this specialty from its infancy in Sri Lanka. Over the years we passionately learned the nuances of our trade and now stand tall as master craftsmen and master builders of countless sea faring vessels. We believe the nature and complexity of our work alone speaks volumes of our skills and expertise in the field. Yet

Regretfully, I find that the modern world makes it increasingly difficult to disregard the plethora of western capitalist influences. It has transcended boundaries and invaded all commercial and social aspects across the globe. Sri Lanka too is at risk of being swept away with the tide of western thinking regardless of its suitability to our circumstances. My vision for the future would be to nurture a more appropriate corporate ethos for Colombo Dockyard. I firmly believe that our uniquely Sri Lankan qualities should form the basis of a philosophy that integrates Japanese values and western capitalistic ideals best suited for our requirements. A corporate value culture of this nature would certainly redefine the cultural fabric of the company and propel Colombo Dockyard to the pinnacle of global marine services in the future.

While gaining a deeper understanding of the business perspective, in the future we will continue to further develop bi-lateral ties between Sri Lanka & Japan and work towards nurturing sustainable long term relationships.

If anything, the Japanese management concept has reinforced not only our engineering skills, but also provided a deeper understanding into human resources management. We feel proud that dockyard has used these resources wisely to improve overall efficiency by fine tuning our processes. Furthermore, we have been inspired to showcase our ship repair and ship building capabilities on an expanding international landscape. Our prudent approach has deservedly earned us the reputation as a consistent, high quality maritime solutions provider.

In conclusion, I take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have stood by us over the years. Message from the President of Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd., Japan and Director of Colombo Dockyard PLC

The Japanese influence is evident in all aspects of Colombo Dockyard, helping the company to grow from a relatively unknown ship building and repair facility, to a frontrunner in the regional marine services industry.

Colombo Dockyard is now geared to serve the emerging needs of the oil and gas exploration sector, not only in Sri Lanka but across the region.

My long association with Colombo Dockyard always invokes happy memories. As I recall my first encounter with the company, it was in the early 1990’s, functioning in the capacity as the Consular General for Sri Lanka in Japan, at the time. It was a turbulent time for Colombo Dockyard as the company sought financial stability and structural balance vis-à-vis a suitable strategic partnership. My role as facilitator in bringing together Colombo Dockyard and Onomichi Dockyard of Japan remains a key highlight in my career. I always knew that this partnership would be a precursor of even bigger things to come.

I believe the global marine transport industry is yet to realise its full potential. In the present context, the frantic rush to expand capacity has caused a significant imbalance in the demand and supply forces. The global market remains saturated with the supply influx, as demand continues to lag far behind. If the current global growth momentum continues, I perceive that the gap could be breached in another two to three years. It would be prudent for Colombo Dockyard to use the interim period resourcefully, to weed out operational inefficiencies with a view to sharpening their competitive edge in the global market.

Over the years I have watched the progress of the union with much fondness and pride. The post collaboration era has been an eventful journey for Colombo Dockyard. Time has brought many changes. The Japanese influence is evident in all aspects of Colombo Dockyard, helping the company to grow from a relatively unknown ship building and repair facility to a frontrunner in the regional marine services industry.

Thus far, Colombo Dockyard has invested wisely to establish a solid technological framework,which would undoubtedly provide added leverage when capturing prospective markets in the future. The company’s recent success in the offshore engineering arena is a further testament to this far-sighted investment strategy. Colombo Dockyard is now geared to serve the emerging needs of the oil and gas exploration sector, not only in Sri Lanka but across the region. In tandem with this goal, the company aims to be a world class provider of offshore support services. The road ahead is assuredly promising for Colombo Dockyard and the company has embarked on a sound tactical plan to develop a fundamental business model that could be regulated in line with changing customer perceptions and varying global trends.

Now in retrospect, 20 years after the collaboration, I am delighted to see the progress of Colombo Dockyard. Having overcome insurmountable obstacles the company has repositioned itself on a dynamic, forward thinking business platform thus creating its own global identity.

I am confident that this collaboration will grow further from strength to strength and Colombo Dockyard will be able to reach greater heights in the global shipbuilding and ship repairing arena in the years to come.

I believe the future lies in committing to the environment.

Developing sophisticated offshore support solutions using environmentally friendly and energy efficient processes would not only help minimise the company’s carbon footprint, but also firmly position Colombo Dockyard among the global elite of the international marine services industry.

MV. Safmarine Ngami accommodated in Colombo Dockyard’s 125,000 dwt drydock No. 04 during her repair call.

Colombo’s flexibility was evident, when the vessel was accommodated in drydock on the same day of completion of cargo, one day ahead of the committed date. The repairs were completed on schedule, meeting owner’s requirements. During this drydocking call the work package covered repairs in all sectors;

The owner’s interests were looked after by Mr. Anand Chaudhari – Fleet Superintendent, Mr. Suresh Verma – Superintendent and Mr. Clyde Peres – Fleet Group Manager, Technical Operations. The project team was headed by Ship Manager Mr. Samitha Silva – who was well supported by all production departments to re-deliver the vessel on schedule.

• Main job was blasting & painting of hull, as Owners were highly concerned on the vessel’s speed & fuel consumption, which highly depends on the vessel’s hull condition.

• As per job specification full blasting (SA 2.5) on flat bottom & vertical bottom areas were carried out.

• The hull treatment team played a key role during this project and the initial paint coat was totally removed to apply the new scheme of paints. The hull treatment team comprising of Mr. Rajawasan & Mr. Nishantha were instrumental in completing the coating work within the time frame, even though there were weather interruptions during the vessel’s stay. The advanced coating type HEMPEL’S ANTI-FOULING DYNAMIC 79560, was used for the first time in Sri Lanka.

• Main Engine was of MAN B&W 7L70ME-C, a camshaftless engine, with full electronically controlled fuel injection, cylinder lubrication and exhaust v/v operation, illustrates the high sophistication of the vessel.

• Bow thruster, stern tube seal and ME turbocharger repairs were attended by OEMs, but well supported by yard team headed by Mr. D.S. Arangala. Regular DD jobs such as overboard valves, sea valves, boiler mountings, etc., were also completed as per spec.

• Deck side, Electrical & Steel repairs were carried out by yard personnel, well guided by the respective Ship Repair Engineers Mr. Asanka, Mr. Munaweera and Mr. Thivanka.

The owners were happy with the excellent facilities at their disposal coupled with the quality workmanship and the professional approach to meet the owners requirements were highly appreciated. The container carrier was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements and sailed out direct from the drydocks to the loading berth in the port of Colombo. The repairs were carried out meeting the Class American Bureau of Shipping society requirements. Prudential Shipping Lines (PTE) Ltd. handled the local husbanding work smoothly.

The emergence of Colombo as hub for container traffic, places Colombo Dockyard as a serious candidate for many leading container carriers touching Colombo, for her repair requirements. The maritime industry in Sri Lanka has seen rejuvenated activity with the recent developments and further increase in activity should be visible with the starting of the operation of Colombo South port by mid 2013. Given these positive developments the main shipping lines are looking at Colombo/ Sri Lanka as a serious destination for their drydocking repairs and marine requirements.

known as GL Noble Denton/ Brevik Engineering) and the detailed design engineering is performed by Neilsoft Ltd of India. This cooperation enabled the convergence of specialists in their respective fields to achieve the best design solutions and Colombo Dockyard performed the arduous task of product realisation.

The vessel is dual classed meeting class rules of Lloyds Register of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping and statutory rules applicable for a vessel of this type.

The Vessel shall be powered by two Japanese made YANMAR Main Engines each developing a propulsive power of 1920 kW, driving two Swedish made BERG Controllable Pitch Propellers with 3m diameter. This combination provides a high level of maneuverability, optimum efficiency and economic operation for the Vessel.

The accommodation spaces in this Vessel shall consist of private space, office space, sanitary space, catering space and other spaces. The passengers will have different categories of accommodation. There will be 10 first class, 40 second class and 350 normal class passenger transportation facilities. All passenger compartments shall be fully air conditioned using an air conditioning system consisting of central air handling unit and refrigerating plant, designed on the basis of an environment friendly refrigerant chilled water system.

Colombo Dockyard launched the 400 Passenger cum 250 Ton Cargo Vessel being built for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration, Government of India on the 22nd August 2013 at the auspicious time of 0950 hours by Ms. V. Lalitha Devi DMSCI. This is the first of a series of two vessels being built.

The launching ceremony was attended to by Shri J. Ashok Kumar Secretary PSA – UTLA, Shri P. Migdad Director PSAUTLA, Capt. Venunath PMS LDCL, Shri B.P. Rai Vice President SB-SCI, Shri. B. Chakravarty General Manager TS&SB- SCI, Shri P. Kumaran – Deputy High Commissioner and Shri Manish Counselor - Economic and Commercial of the Indian High Commission.

A well designed and well laid out wheelhouse will provide excellent visibility of the horizon, where the Master and the bridge crew will have an unobtrusive view right around the vessel for ease of navigability. Navigation and communication electronic equipment shall be predominately supplied by European and Japanese makers to increase reliability and to ensure uninterrupted spare part and service support during the life span of the vessel. The vessel so designed, shall be a perfect blend of high-tech and elegance, and could be considered as one of the most environmentally friendly vessels to be built by Colombo Dockyard, which indeed will be a positive feature considering the un-spoilt terrain of the Lakshadweep Administration in which these vessels are intended to be operated.

Mr. A. Nakauchi Chairman, Mr. Mangala Yapa MD/CEO, Mr.D.V. Abeysinghe GM (P&E), Mr. S.D. Gilbert Special Projects Manager and the senior management and the project management team of the Colombo Dockyard graced this momentous occasion.

The vessel will now move in to the next stage of the construction process, where it will be outfitted with machinery, piping, electrical, automation, navigation, communication and accommodation items.

Once the vessel is completed, it will be deployed to cater to the increased traffic en-route from the Main Land (Cochin) to UTL Islands, as well as in the inter island routes. The addition of this vessel will ease the movement of passengers especially during peak season.

As the vessel’s hull design has been based on slender outlines, the vessel features very low fuel consumption and shall have outstanding maneuvering and sea keeping capabilities with low noise and vibration levels which will also increase the comfort of the passengers and crew of the vessel. The Vessel is to be manned by a crew of 69 who will also be provided with comfortable and elegant living quarters matching the world standards available on a vessel of this class.

The vessel is designed by world renowned ship design company, Global Maritime Brevik AS of Norway (formerly 8

Colombo Dockyard was the best repair option for China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd, China owned trailer suction Dredger Jun Hai 2 (GRT 10,751) was due for her drydocking and survey repairs. This dredger Jun Hai 2 was deployed in the Colombo South port development project in Colombo.

Colombo Dockyard has been attracting major dredger operators globally such as Dredging International, Belgium, Van Ood Ship Management, Netherlands, Dredging Corporation of India, Dharti Dredging and Infrastructure Ltd. India for their repair requirements.

Given the proven past track record of Colombo Dockyard on handling similar or more complicated projects successfully, helped the owners to place confidence in Colombo for the repair requirements of the sophisticated trailing suction dredger repairs, as this was the first experience with the Colombo Dockyard for this client.

Port & Stbd Kort Nozzle SS liner Renewal before and after.

The critical work scope was executed by the steel department on the Kort Nozzle liner renewal, the condition of the existing lining was in bad state. The bottom door repairs were carried out meticulously meeting the owner’s requirements. The owners were very happy with the workmanship, speed of repair and the professional approach taken by the yard to tackle the entire project successfully.

The owners have planned the lay-up repairs during monsoon period, where the dredging activity is slow and they can release the vessel for a major lay-up. During this call the owners were preparing the vessel for her first drydocking survey repair requirements.

The repairs were carried out meeting the requirements of China Classification Society. The vessel went on back to her operational duties soon after completion of repair work.

Taking this business relationship further the owners are looking at Colombo Dockyard as one of their preferred repair centres for the fleet operating in the region. The project was coordinated by the Mr. Jayanath Fernando –Ship Manager, ably supported by all the production department teams. Mr. Gandika Waligamage- Steel dept., Mr. Ruchira Ranaweera, Engine Dept., Mr. Reyal Sulaiman-Deck Dept., Mr. Anurudhdha Weerasinghe- Hull treatment, Mr. Ravindhu Rajapaksha – Electrical Dept and Mr. Ruvan Gajanayake –Invoicing.

The work extensive scope package consisted of: Port & Stbd Kort Nozzle SS liner Renewal, Dredger bottom door repairs including packing renewal, Renewal of Port & Stbd Trailing pipes and hopper discharge pipes, Hydraulically operated Butterfly valves modification in Center Keel-son, Inside hopper doublering by Hardox plates.

Overhauling Hydraulic operated Sluice valves in dredge system, Repairs of Port & Stbd Suction slide, suction bend , Fork arm and Gimble ring, Renewal of Port & Stbd Dredge suction sleeve and mouth ring, Installation of new plate heat Exchanger, Modification of Jet nozzles in side hopper, Port & Stbd Rudder removal and renewal of Controllable Pitch Propeller Blades, Full blasting of hull and change of coating scheme.

Marinevest Shipping, Sweden Owned Tanker Mariann Re-Delivered On Schedule Thome Ship Management, Singapore managed Mt. Mariann (Dwt 77,043) owned by Marinevest Shipping, Sweden was placed in Colombo for drydocking and lay up repairs during end February 2013.

Colombo was the preferred choice for the owners/ managers given the strategic location placing the vessel closer to her next loading port in India. The good track record of Colombo especially for speedy turnaround and quality workmanship, coupled with MT. Kirsten repairs that were carried out successfully during January 2011, played a role when managers selected the yard for laying up this massive product tanker.

The tanker was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements, prior to drydocking she was accommodated at the yard’s alongside pier.

The work package to be carried out during this call consisted of: Routine drydocking repairs, hull blasting and painting (5000 sqm), Introducing additional strengthening and modifying Deck longitudinal frames to avoid generating cracks (9~10 tons of high tensile steel plates used for this modification). Introducing new Frequency converters for Engine room fans and sea water pumps in order to improve fuel consumption; fabrication and installation; of sludge tank of 2.5 cum with all pipes, fittings and attachments and installation, strengthening of main mast by introducing new wire stays, Introducing additional stiffeners to radar mast and improve the strength and rigidity, modification of various pipe lines and overhauling of plate and tube type coolers, valves and electrical motors.

The repairs were carried out meeting the DNV classification society requirements and owners / Ship management representatives’ requirements. The owners were very happy with the total out-come of the project, with on time delivery and the quality of workmanship making a strong impression.

The attending superintendent was Mr. R. Muralidhar, while Mr. Darshan Gaur, Fleet Group Manager overlooked the project. Mr. Fredrik Stubner, Director Ship Management – Marinevest were present during the initial phase of the repair. The local agents GAC Shipping Ltd. handled the husbanding work during this call.

Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) delivered the last vessel of a series of three Platform/ROV Support Vessels (ROVSV)for Greatship Global Offshore Services Pte Limited of Singapore, at the auspicious time of 11.25 am on 10th January 2013.

Siem Offshore, Norway Experiences Colombo Dockyard For The First Time with Osv. Siem Hanne

Colombo Dockyard was the best option for Siem Offshore, when the OSV. Siem Hanne was due for her first special survey drydocking. The vessel was operating in the Indian coastal waters, thereby making Colombo one of the best locations for her repairs.

The SK Line 71 was accommodated in Drydock No. 04 (125,000 DWT) drydock while SK Line 72 was taken into Drydock No. 03 (9,000 DWT).

Colombo’s strategic geographic position also plays a part, as the vessel delivery was taken from China and two OSVs were placed one after another in Colombo for the conversion and soon after the sea trials the two vessels proceeded to Brazil, where they will be on-hired to the Petrobras charter.

Colombo Dockyard was the ideal option for NAUTILUS MARINE ACQUISITION CORP. GREECE / VEGA OFFSHORE, NORWAY, the owners of Offshore Support vessels SK Line 71 and 72, who were looking out to carry out charter requested modifications to the brand new deliveries from China.

The two 1678 GRT OSV’s vessels built in FUJIAN FUNING SHIPBUILDING HEAVY INDUSTRY FU´AN, CHINA, were placed in Colombo soon after taking delivery. The main project scope was to Install a new stern thruster on the fabricated skeg and carry out all electrical and mechanical installations on these two OSVs.This modification was coupled with other repair requirements such as blasting and painting of 12 Nos. of tanks to S.A 2.0 standard, conversion of the existing piping systems related to the above tanks, removal of the anchor handling winch, removal of the wire reel, shifting the existing tugger winches by 1 meter, removal of the shark jaw and towing pins, removal of Stern Roller and Converting the space of the stern roller to a fresh water tank.

Once the decision was taken to place the vessel in Colombo, prefabrication of the skeg commenced prior to arrival of the first vessel in Colombo. Planning and coordination of the project was handled by Mr. Priyanka Cooray – Ship Manager with full support from production departments.

Given the successful completion of the projects on SK Line and previously on OSV. Kailashand OSV. Shegar, Colombo Dockyard has managed to create a niche as a specialist shipyard with the necessary capability to cater to repair requirements / conversions for vessels moving into the Petrobras charter in the Brazilian waters.

The project management was assigned to Thome Offshore Management Pte Ltd. Singapore. Mr. Toni Ang – Senior Technical Superintendent was based in Colombo to supervise the total project. Mr. Georgios Aivaliotis - Senior Technical Manager represented the owners from Nautilus Marine Acquisition Corp. Greece.

The project was carried out meeting the classification society requirements of American Bureau of Shipping. The Local agents for the vessel during this call were M/s. McLARENS SHIPPING LIMITED.

CONTAINER CARRIER IMARA OWNED BY SEACHANGE MARITIME (S) PTE LTD. IN FOR DRYDOCKING AND LAY UP REPAIRS

Colombo’s professionalism and scheduling experience was evident, when the vessel was accommodated in drydock on arrival. The repairs were completed on schedule meeting owner’s requirements.

During this drydocking call the work package covered repairs in all sectors; Bow thrusters seal renewal and polishing of blades, propeller and rudder garnet blasting and painting, main engine overhaul – 2 units, tail shaft withdrawal and survey, rudder/ steering gear room seal renewal, main engine turbo charger overhaul.

Extensive steel renewal (approx. of 19 tons) and hatch cover repairs. This was in addition to routine drydocking related repairs.

The owner’s interests were looked after by Mr. Petar Karaman– Technical Manager. The project team was headed by Ship Manager Mr. Priyanka Cooray – who was well supported by all production departments to re-deliver the vessel on schedule.

MV. Imara accommodated in Colombo Dockyard’s 125,000 dwt drydock No. 04 during her repair call.

SeaChange Maritime (S) Pte Ltd., Singapore placed confidence in Colombo Dockyard for repairs to MV. Imara (DWT: 34,325, LOA: 211.00 M, Beam: 29.80 M) called in for her first special survey repairs during August 2013.

The owners were satisfied with the facilities at their disposal coupled with the quality workmanship, professional approach to meet the owners requirements were highly appreciated. The container carrier was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements and sailed out direct from the drydocks to the loading berth in the port of Colombo.

The repairs were carried out meeting the LRS Class society requirements. Mc LARENS SHIPPING LIMITED. handled the local husbanding work smoothly.

VAN OORD OWNED “HAM 318” IN FOR REPAIRS AT COLOMBO

Dredger Ham 318 accommodated in Colombo Dockyard’s 125,000 dwt drydock No. 04 during her repair call.

The Ham 318, Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger called at Colombo Dockyard for drydocking repairs.

Colombo Dockyard has been servicing Van Oord fleet of vessels over the past decade; this was the biggest dredger to call Colombo Dockyard in its 39 year recorded history.

The Van Oord, Netherland owned massive dredger (67,471 DWT) was accommodated in drydock No. 04 (125,000 DWT) during her repair call to Colombo. The Ham 318 had completed her deployment in Brazilian waters, was shifted to the Indian Ocean for her next employment planned in Mumbai.

The owners placed the dredger in Colombo during 3rd week of March to prepare the Ham 318 for her next deployment in Mumbai waters. During this drydocking call the owners utilised the convenience of Colombo’s super fast logistics for connecting her requirement of spare parts etc. and ship yards experience in handling complicated dredgers.

The Van Oord Team was happy with the delivery of the full project and ability of Colombo to accommodate the dredgers shifted arrival date smoothly, maintaining the redelivery promptness.

The Van Oord team during this call comprised of Mr. Andre Kreemer – Plant Manager, Mr. R. Martini- Senior Technical Superintendent, Mr. Adrian Ion Bratu- Technical superintendent and Mr. Saurabh Saravia -Technical superintendent. The Ham 318 project was headed by Mr. Priyanka Cooray – Ship Manager, all production departments contributed as one team to complete the project on schedule and prepare her to take on her next operational commitments successfully. The repairs were carried out meeting the stringent requirements of the owners as well as the Bureau Veritas classification society.

The key work package during this call consisted of replacement of Drag heads along with modification of visors, Introduce wedge pieces to drag heads, Welding Doublers in way of loading lines to hopper and suction lines, renewal of mouth rings of suction liner. Load testing of cargo gears, Load testing of gangways. Five year service of free fall lifeboats were carried out, misc. hydraulic lines renewal and renewal of dredge suction liners. Propeller shaft seal vulcanizing was carried out, overhauling of Sea Valves. Blasting and painting of poop deck, forecastle deck and part of the hull carried out. Bottom door seal renewals/repairs, Hopper cracks gouging and welding were attended to during this call.

The Colombo Dockyard has been the trusted repair centre Arkas Shipping and Transport SA. Who have been patronising Colombo for their repair requirements.

The drydocks were busy with prior committed projects; hence the yard technical teams proposed an alternative solution in discussion with owners to trim the vessel and carry out the seal renewal at alongside repair berth to avoid extended down time awaiting drydock space. attended to smoothly, the project was completed within 2 days.

His Excellency Taro Aso made history today (2nd May 2013) by being the first sitting deputy Prime Minister of Japan to visit Colombo Dockyard PLC, country’s premier Shipbuilding and Ship repairing entity operating in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Limited of Japan. He was accompanied by Senior Vice Minister of Finance Hon. Yuko Obuchi, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka H.E. Nobuhito Hobo, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Japan H.E. Admiral (Rtd.) Wasantha Karannagoda, and a host of Japanese government officials, business delegates & media personnel.

One such success story form the recent past, is the collaboration Onomichi Dockyard Company Ltd of Japan entered in to with Colombo Dockyard in 1993, which incidentally celebrated the 20th anniversary to its successful collaboration, recently.

H.E. Taro Aso’s visit also has another major significance to all Sri Lankans as he is the Grand Son of former Prime Minister Yoshida Shigeru of Japan who signed the ‘Peace Treaty of San Francisco’ between Japan and the allied powers in 1951, which served to officially end the World War II, where our then Finance Minister J.R. Jayawardene spoke in support of a free Japan. With this speech, Sri Lanka consolidated an eternal friendship with Japan which continues to grow stronger and stronger.

This collaboration found the most suitable strategic partner who could complement Colombo Dockyards’ business and infuse equity capital as well as provide fresh managerial and technical expertise to launch the Shipyard to the next level.
