Beaver Creek Resort
THE STORY BEHIND THE WELCOME GATES
GATE ATTENDANTS The friendly gate attendants provide a wealth of information to residents, visitors, locals and anyone entering the resort. They offer directions, maps and make recommendations to guests. On busier days, they let guests know when parking is full to alleviate the inconvenience of driving the two miles uphill only to find there’s no place to park. For guests just arriving, the attendants assist with property check-in, which is especially helpful for those arriving after hours. The Reception Center at the base, an extension of the resort’s service, also provides guest check-in after hours. Both services are staffed 24/7.
FAMILY BENEFITS One of the resort’s most significant attributes for residents and guests is providing a safe, intimate and enjoyable environment for children and families. This is made possible with the Welcome Gates. The gates and their staff play a key role in ensuring that everyone who lives here or visits can partake in activities, world-class events, dining, shopping and relaxing in a setting that will spoil you for anywhere else.
3 | SUMMER 2014
Beaver Creek Resort and Beaver Creek Village provide an experience like no other. As you pass through the Welcome Gates you leave the everyday world behind you. This purpose-built resort features limited underground parking with a pedestrianfriendly village plus several services and amenities in close proximity to the heart of the village. Strict development guidelines ensure the buildings with their green rooftops –a design commonly seen in Europe – blend into the natural surroundings. Complimentary transportation lends an environmentally-friendly approach to minimizing the number of cars in the resort. This preserves air quality and also ensures minimal traffic congestion. The visionaries of Beaver Creek recognized and wanted to honor the area’s natural environment and protect animal habitat and trails. They wanted to ensure that despite development, the area would maintain its pristine setting.

COOKIE TIME
4 | B E AV E R C R E E K E X P E R I E N C E
There’s really no shorter path to a warm heart than a fresh chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven. However you spend your day, be sure to end up near the ice rink in Beaver Creek Village at 3 p.m. when chefs emerge with silver platters piled high with warm cookies. They are free and available every day June 14 – Aug. 29.
MOVIES UNDER THE STARS Tuesday is the night to dress warmly and bring the entire family to the back lawn behind the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort & Spa. Watch the sun set against a red and lavender sky and the stars emerge as kid favorites like Frozen, The Lego Movie and Despicable Me 2 play on the big screen.
There are more than 62 miles of hiking trails at Beaver Creek Resort, several also open to horses and mountain bikes. For beginner to immediate hikers of all ages, here are the hands down favorites for hiking: BEAVER LAKE TRAIL – If you like trails with water features, this is your spot. Follow the flowing water of Beaver Creek into the Holy Cross Wilderness for 3 miles until you reach the glassy and serene Beaver Lake. Plan on four hours roundtrip. ASPEN GLADE TO ALLIE’S WAY – Find the Aspen Glade trail on the far east end of the village and wind through lime green glades to a stretch of dirt road overlooking the village and valley panorama before finding Allie’s Way, which takes you through clusters of pines and wildflowers, gently climbing up to the turnaround below Talons restaurant. The out and back is about 5 miles. LOST BUCK TO VILLAGE TO VILLAGE – Set aside the day to climb through the woods on the spacious Lost Buck trail under Strawberry Park Express Lift, taking in sweeping views of the Gore Range, then continue on the wide and rolling Village to Village trail over and along streams through rich foliage to Bachelor Gulch. About 4.7 miles each way.

Adventure Programs Adventure is inescapable at Beaver Creek. Whether it’s hiking, fishing, golfing, off-road tours or taking in the mountain from horseback or a bird’s eye view from the chairlift, the summer outdoor experience guarantees to be vibrant at the very least and life-altering at the very best.

Beaver Creek Mountain is itself home to nearly 30 trails, 15 miles of which are dedicated solely to hiking.
FLY FISHING With Gold Medal water flowing throughout the valley, trout are plentiful and casting a line truly the most peaceful of pastimes. Gore Creek Fly Fisherman in Beaver Creek Village offers free casting clinics daily at 10:30 a.m. throughout the summer.
HIGH MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE TOURS 4X4
6 | B E AV E R C R E E K E X P E R I E N C E
Nothing says mountain safari like a trip up and down the high-elevation roads in a canopied Jeep. Guides provide insider-y tidbits on area geology, wildlife and wildflowers, offering both group tours and private tours with picnic lunch.
GOLF Right at your fingertips, Beaver Creek Golf Club is famous for its jaw-dropping scenery and narrow, challenging fairways. Red Sky Golf Club, located 20 minutes west of Beaver Creek, is home of two award-winning courses designed by Tom Fazio and Greg Norman, offering great views of Vail’s Back Bowls from the greens.
HORSEBACK RIDING There’s an unmistakable feel of the Old West that comes with meandering through the pines and across streams on horseback. From Beaver Creek Stables, take a twohour trail ride, a three-hour picnic lunch ride or a romantic sunset ride to dinner at Beano’s Cabin.
SUMMER CHAIRLIFT RIDES Swoop straight up the mountain seeing the treetops and surrounding peaks as a falcon would. Starting July 1, Strawberry Park Express Lift offers scenic rides and transportation to Mamie’s Mountain Grill for lunch on the mountain, tickets available at the Adventure Center in Beaver Creek Village.

KID’S ZONE
Kids’ Day Camp Sure to create magical memories to last a lifetime, Beaver Creek has three camps available for children ages 5 to 13. Creativity, outdoor education and adventure are the driving forces behind a gamut of activities from face-painting to horseback riding, whitewater rafting to rock climbing. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from early June through Labor Day at the Beaver Creek Children’s Ski School. 24-hour advance reservations are recommended at 970-754-5464.
DISCOVERY CAMP There is so much to discover for children ages 5 to 7. One day could bring a trip to the local animal shelter, paddle boating on the lake in Avon and pony rides. Or panning for gold in the creek, exploring the resort’s teepee village, taking a trip to the rodeo or jumping on the bungee trampoline. Some days the camp is centered around a theme. It could be fish day, in which young children learn about various species of aquatic life in Beaver Creek pond and make fish puppets. There’s also dinosaur day – digging for fossils, hunting for dino eggs and story telling.
ADVENTURE CAMP For kids ages 8 to13, adventure is the No. 1 priority. This camp explores the mountain’s hiking and biking trails, takes trips to drive Go-Carts and ride on the alpine slide. If your child isn’t an outdoor enthusiast, he or she will be after a day of rock climbing, swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.

FIVE-STAR CAMP This camp is available to all children ages 5 to 13. Split into appropriate age groups, day-long activities abound. Horseback riding is paired with a picnic lunch and s’mores roasting, whitewater river rafting is followed by playing in Beaver Creek fountain, after a 4X4 excursion comes a round of disc golf and a trip to Glenwood brings a day of exploring the caverns and sunbathing at the hot springs.

Combination Lift
You might notice the large-scale project afoot at the Centennial Park base area. The first of its kind in the Vail Valley, what you see is the installation of a brand new, stateof-the-art combination lift for the 201415 winter season. Taking the place of the former Centennial Express Lift, this new lift will feature a combination of 10-person gondola cabins and six-passenger chairs, boosting uphill capacity by 35 percent and carrying up to 3,400 people per hour.
Serving the busiest area of the mountain, the combination lift will allow skiers and riders to have a choice of how they want to ride up the mountain. This will greatly benefit beginners, ski school and kids, as gondola cabins offer a much easier loading and unloading experience. The lift will debut in mid-November 2014.
12 | B E A V E R C R E E K E X P E R I E N C E
BASE AREA ACTIVITIES Although lift installation will be ongoing throughout the summer, there are numerous mountain activities to enjoy, including mini golf, bungee trampoline and an outdoor rock climbing wall in Centennial Park. There will be full access to hiking and biking trails, although construction phases might impact some sections of the trails. Check status at the Summer Adventure Center across from Starbucks before you go.
LIVE MUSIC Every Wednesday evening in July and the first two weeks of August, Centennial Park will also host the Music Experience Series, bringing a variety of artists to the stage at the east end of the park. Concerts are free and the whole family is welcome. Don’t miss the Fourth of July performance in the park starring country singer Pat Green.
SUMMER LIFT RIDES Want to reach the top of the mountain quickly? Strawberry Park Express Lift provides scenic chairlift rides and lunch tours to Mamie’s Mountain Grill throughout the summer.
MOUNTAIN BIKING Beaver Creek is home to more than a dozen multi-use trails. Due to the installation of the new combination lift, this summer, there will be no lift access for bikes. On-mountain trails can be reached by pedaling uphill … the ultimate workout! Don’t forget your water and snacks.
Rocks is my favorite place to eat, they have special menus for us kids! Mom likes us to see the Bohemian Gallery while at the Beaver Creek Lodge. I counted over 150 works of art there! We shopped at Generation BC, what great toys, and we bought this cool 2015 gear. The fun at Beaver Creek has me asking to go to and stay every year. Directory of lodging located on page 16
Any foodie can tell you that Beaver Creek is an extraordinary dining experience. Hooked, the sushi seafood market is a fresh fish must do. Our family enjoys delicious burgers at The Dusty Boot and I always visit the Metropolitan for tapas, wine and the breakfast bar. After dinner, walking the Village is refreshing as we browse the available real estate at Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate. A complete list of dining experiences in this guide can be found on page 16
