Sunshine Project illuminates best practices in open government

We tackled what we view as the first “layer.” We applied points to each of four categories, then assessed each government accordingly: government websites (30 points, plus 2 bonus points), meetings (30 points, plus 4 bonus points), budgets & financial (30 points) and the records request process (10 points).

In essence, it’s how expensive fees are for obtaining records, or how well minutes are recorded and kept, or how populated websites are with information, or how emails are exchanged among government officials, or how they conduct business in private, and everything in between.
