President’s Message
Honoring Our Heroes Having a Servant’s Heart
I
n preparing for this message, I Googled “leadership quotes” as well as “inspirational military quotes.” Forty-five minutes and hundreds of quotes later, I am not ashamed to say I am near tears, once again humbled, and frankly in awe of those that serve to protect the ideals of America. Those who step forward, willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice, they are the true heroes. “It doesn’t take a hero to order men to go into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.” — General H. Norman Schwarzkopf In observing and serving the programs of Colorado PGA REACH and what it does for our heroes, we cannot underestimate the impact we can have on these men and women. Ask any PGA Professional who has been directly involved in our programs including Paul Surniak, Ryan Flamm, Kirk Mease, Paul Hebnick, Adam Finch, Cy Twete, Will Veith and Leighton Smith, and you will instantly feel the profound affect these programs have had on our heroes, as well as the professionals themselves – an unexpected result of the PGA Professional’s willingness to serve. I have heard it described a number of times as having a “servant’s heart” which is, not so simply, to place others needs before one’s own with the right motivation. I am nothing short of inspired and so very appreciative or our heroes – both military and PGA Professional alike. “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” – Maya Angelou With our PGA HOPE programs back for 2021, such as Patriot Golf Day, we once again have the opportunity to step forward and make a difference in our own small way - serve. You might be under the impression that it takes a grand gesture to do so. It does not. It just takes the willingness to make the first step and that step can be as simple as a phone call to the CPGA Section Office asking, “I want to get involved. I want to give back. What can I do?” Our team would be more than happy to provide ideas and options for you. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams Unlike our Military - serving, leading and making a difference in our golf communities does not have to be a grandiose gesture. It starts with you but it doesn’t start until you do. Sincerely,

Executive Director’s Message
The Impact We Have “Golf Saved My Life!”
P
GA Championship week always has great memories for me. As we all know, until recently the Championship used to be played in August, the month I was born. In 1985 we were living in Clovis, New Mexico, as my father had been stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. He took me to the PGA Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club for my birthday and I fell in love with Colorado! I remember driving by the United States Air Force Academy and saying to myself, “I’m going to manage that golf course someday.” In 1998 those words became a reality and I got to meet “Coach,” Gene Miranda. When I think of incredible people in our industry, I think of “Coach,” a man who served our nation faithfully as an Air Force Officer, retiring in the rank of Lt. Colonel. He continued to serve our nation even after he retired when he became the Air Force Falcons Golf Coach which helped shape the future leaders of our United States Air Force. I have always known the game of golf can make an impact in people’s lives. The difference it makes by bringing people together and by teaching values, there is just something special in our game. Today I continue to believe in the power of golf, but in a completely new way. Since we started working with the soldiers at Fort Carson with Colorado PGA Professional Paul Surniak, it amazed me the number of soldiers that have shared with us, “Golf saved my life!” When the PGA of America, through PGA REACH, launched PGA HOPE it was very easy for us to jump on board because we knew firsthand the impact golf is making in the lives of our Veterans. We have now grown to eight PGA HOPE Programs across the Section. We have added PGA HOPE Ambassador Retired Army Sergeant First Class Joseph Robinson, and we are looking to continue to do whatever we can to support our Troops. Whether it is spending a few hours a year visiting our Veterans Valentine’s Week at the Denver VA, playing a round of golf with them during our “IVY” Pro Am at Fort Carson, partnering with Military Warriors Support Foundation to award a mortgage-free home, or hosting a PGA HOPE Program, there are plenty of opportunities to give back to those who have done so much for all of us!
Eddie Ainsworth, PGA CEO/Executive Director Colorado PGA eainsworth@pgahq.com C | (719) 761-6125
I never could have imagined that my trip to Cherry Hills in 1985 to watch the PGA Championship would be the beginning of a future beyond my wildest dreams. To have the honor to call men like PGA Master Professional Gene Miranda my friend, and to serve the 850 PGA Members and Associates of the Colorado PGA as they continue to be the driving force in golf throughout Colorado, Eastern Wyoming, and parts of South Dakota has been incredible! In closing, all I can think of is stay tuned, as we have only just begun to make a positive difference in the lives of others through the game of golf!!! All the Best.

It’s Championship Season! Watch District 9 Members Compete!
T
he 2021 golf season is well underway in the Colorado Section and all of District 9. I hope this finds you all healthy and with full tee sheets. The golf season means that tournament season is well underway on a local level as well as a national level. The PGA of America tournament season began the last week of April at the PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. Play was conducted over four days on the Ryder and Wannamaker courses. The courses were in excellent condition and the level of play was even better. Congratulations to the nine Colorado Section Members who qualified to play in this event! Also congratulations to the two PGA Professionals in District 9 who qualified to play in the 2021 PGA Championship, Ben Polland from the Rocky Mountain Section and Joe Summerhays from the Utah Section! The 2021 PGA Works Collegiate Championship was held May 3-5, at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Formerly called the National Minority College Championship, run by the PGA of America, this team competition is open to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other MinorityServing institutions. The Men’s Division 1 team champion was Prairie View A&M, and the Women’s champion was the team from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. It was a great championship at a fantastic venue! As I type this, I am getting ready to leave for the 103rd PGA Championship to be held next week at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. This Pete Dye course is famous for the 1991 Ryder Cup, as well as the 2012 PGA Championship won by Rory Mcllroy. The PGA Championship always features the strongest field in golf, as well as the team of 20 PGA of America Professionals who qualified at last months PPC. I am looking forward to attending my first PGA Championship and have been practicing how to pronounce all the player’s names! The week following the PGA Championship will be the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ken Tanigawa who won the 2019 Championship will be the defending champion since the 2020 KitchenAid Sr. PGA Championship was canceled due to Covid-19. I would also like to send the best of luck to Colorado Member Micah Rudosky, PGA Head Professional at Conquistador Golf Course, who will be playing! In June, the PGA of America will be staging the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. Sei Young Kim will look to defend the championship that she won last year at Aronomik Golf Club. As you can see it is a busy time of year for the Championships Department of the PGA of America headed by our Chief Championship Officer, Kerry Haigh. Let me remind you that all PGA of America Members are welcome to attend our Championships with a guest. While the PGA of America is busy conducting these events this summer, I know those of us in District 9 are busy running our Member-Guests, Men’s and Ladies Leagues, Corporate Outings and more. This is what we do as golf professionals and we do it well. I wish you all a great tournament season whether it be conducting, playing, or spectating! Please feel free to reach out to me any time! West Chapter Elects Johnson and Kamby to Serve on the Board of Directors Matz and Pratt Fill Vacancies
T
he Colorado PGA West Chapter held their virtual Spring Meeting on Thursday, April 15, and held elections for the Board of Directors. Trey Johnson, PGA Assistant Professional at Vail Golf Club and Joe Kamby, PGA Assistant Professional at Country Club of the Rockies were elected to serve a three-year term in which they will be sworn in during the West Chapter Fall Meeting on September 27, 2021, at Sonnenalp Golf Club. Also explained at the meeting was the filling of two vacant seats on the Board of Directors by Mark Matz, PGA Director of Golf at Beaver Greek Golf Club and James Pratt, PGA Head Professional at Aspen Golf Club. The two are filling vacancies left by current Secretary Steve VanDyke, PGA and John Lynch, PGA who moved to Hawaii. “The West Chapter Board of Directors has had some transition over the last year or so with some members leaving the Chapter and the COVID pandemic,” said President of the West Chapter, Jeff Boyer, PGA General Manager at Eagle Ranch Golf Club. “I am excited to have some outstanding PGA Golf Professionals who have stepped up to fill the positions that were open. Joe Kamby has served on the Board in the past and his many years of experience in the West Chapter are a great asset. Trey Johnson, Jim Pratt and Mark Matz will bring great energy as younger and newer members of the West Chapter. I am looking forward to working with them.”
Trey Johnson, PGA Vail Golf Club
When asked about the election, Johnson commented, “I am excited for the opportunity to represent the members of the West Chapter. Election to the Board of Directors has been a goal of mine for a better part of the last three seasons, and I am honored to have been elected this Spring. I am looking forward to this new experience of representing the West Chapter and providing a young perspective with a long-term mindset to help the West Chapter to be the best that it can be.” Kamby explained his decision to run for the position, “I ran for the West Chapter Board because I believe we all need to serve when we are able to do so. The time commitment is minimal in the grand scheme of things. I also think that we, as Member Professionals, should serve as shining examples to up and coming associates. One way is to get involved in governance, on the Chapter, Section, or National level. I also have an agenda, to ensure that more Members are acting in mentor roles to the new professionals. I plan on bringing this agenda to the forefront during the Fall Meeting, after the business levels at our courses subsides a bit. The support of my fellow West Chapter Professionals in the election is very much appreciated. I take the position seriously and will do whatever is in my power to further the standing of Chapter Professionals.”
Joe Kamby, PGA Country Club of the Rockies

Filling in a vacancy, Matz commented, “I have been on the sidelines for many years and finally decided to enter the game. I have always wanted to serve on a board in the PGA; however, I kept saying next year will be the year. I grew tired of passing the buck and wanted to give back to the Chapter and provide

West Chapter News my support in whatever capacity they needed my help. I am thrilled to be serving the West Chapter and look forward to many years of service.” Other topics discussed at the Spring Meeting included a tournament schedule update and a Career Services report by PGA Career Consultant Keith Soriano, PGA. The education portion of the meeting was provided by Anthony Vitale, PGA Coaching & Player Development PGA of America. Vitale gave an overview of PGA.Coach and the American Development Model (ADM). Introducing the Air Force Academy to the Youth of America Falcon Junior Golf Camps Successful Since 1980!
I
t may be hard to imagine a pilot program that started over 40 years ago would evolve into something as spectacular as the Falcon Camps at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Thousands of junior golfers have attended golf camp at the USAFA, whether commuting daily or boarding for days, and have been influenced by their counselors, who are cadets and their coaches, who are PGA Professionals. Gene Miranda, PGA Life Member, joined the Air Force in 1963 and served 14 of his 20 years at The Air Force Academy. While on active duty, Miranda was a tenured associate professor of physical education with the added responsibility of being a golf coach. During that time, he wrote and organized the entire cadet golf instruction program and in 1980 introduced the idea of and successfully launched the very first Falcon Camp. These five-day co-ed camps are designed to provide a fun experience with an emphasis on positive feedback, improvement, challenges, daily recognition rewards and a respect for the game of golf, its traditions, rules, and etiquette. Miranda used a PGA Junior Medalist Program as a starting point and redesigned it to align with Falcon Camp. Every camper is given a bag tag

and stickers are awarded daily for passing tests on putting, chipping, and pitching at three levels (bronze, silver, and gold). During the closing award ceremony, pins are presented to campers for passing all three tests and the overall champion of each group is presented with a Falcon trophy. Miranda even recalled a camper from Texas who persisted over years attaining his bag stickers for his bag tag. The camper went on to attend the USAFA and played Varsity Golf. Two months ago, Miranda learned his former player,

Colorado PGA News campers ended up playing at the USAFA for Miranda. It was a great recruiting tool for golf and other sports. These camps allowed coaches to see ability in campers and campers to see how they liked life in the Academy. The Air Force Academy honor code, “we will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does,” supports the integrity being instilled into young golfers at these camps. Miranda shared an example of a camper whose brand-new expensive shoes went missing on day one of camp. Each day Miranda would encourage the return of the sneakers with no results. The last night of camp, Miranda said, “I guarantee you for the rest of your life, when you get over a 3-foot putt, you’re going to remember you stole those sneakers and you are going to miss that putt.” The next morning, the sneakers showed up! Miranda, pictured back row left, focused solely on golf after year one of Falcon Camps.
now on active duty, recently won the national long drive contest for the military. To see the progress from a camper to a national award winner is inspiring! From the East Coast to Hawaii, young people from across the United States attend Falcon Camps. Commuters, as young as 10 years of age and boarders as young as 12, attend the camps designed for different skill levels. At the golf camps, stations are set up beginning at 8:00am until 4:00pm and consist of the driving range, putting green, pitching green, golf course and classroom. Every day at 4:45pm, the National Anthem plays at the Academy and campers, along with everyone else on site, stop, face the flag, and show their respect - which is part of being on a military installation. In addition to the golf and military experience, the scenery at the Academy is amazing! Nestled in the foothills below Pikes Peak, campers are exposed to the beauty famously named “Garden of the Gods” daily. Some kids came to camp having no idea of military life and walked away very interested in cadet life. They liked the regiment and beauty of the Academy, the free education, and the ability to complete their education in four years instead of the typical five it takes the traditional student athlete. All the camps helped in recruiting to the Academy, said Miranda. “It worked! Boys and girls who would never have thought about the military started thinking about it because of the exposure, the beauty of the place, and talking to the cadets. Cadets are impressive! You get the right ones as counselors and they are recruiters for you.” Exposing kids to the game has created life-long golfers who love the game. Some have gone on to become PGA Professionals, Mini-Tour players and even one played a few years on TOUR! In addition, about 10

“The game of golf is a metaphor of life. The basics of the game are also the basics to living a clean, honest life,” concludes Miranda. After retiring from the Air Force in 1983, Miranda became a PGA Professional. He is in six halls of fame: Golf Coaches Association; Colorado Golf Hall of Fame; Colorado PGA Hall of Fame; Air Force Sports Hall of Fame; First Tee Pikes Peak Hall of Legends; and the Castlemont High School (Oakland, California) Sports Hall of Fame. In 2002, the Air Force Academy Falcon Invitational was re-named the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Miranda retired with the rank of
An interesting lieutenant colonel in 1983. fact, the first year of camp, 1980, camps were held on cadet athletic fields. The assistant coach at the time, who helped Miranda, was a young captain Mike Gould, who ended up being the 18th Superintendent of the USAFA and retired as a lieutenant general, a three-star officer. He went from teaching golf to running the entire Academy. Air Force Sports Camps have been running strong since 1980, with the only exception of 2020 during COVID. One of Miranda’s former players and then assistant coach, now the current head golf coach at the Academy, George Koury, has been running the camps for the last 19 years. This year, camps are commuter only. For more information, click here.

My childhood dream was to be a golf coach in the summer and a ski bum in the winter. (Partially achieved!) What was your first introduction to the game of golf? I was introduced to Junior Golf in Chicago playing with my dad and became an honor caddie at a local club (Sunset Ridge Country Club). Why did you choose to become a PGA Golf Professional? I chose to become a PGA Professional to help others, to be an apprentice of the game and give back to the next generation of golfers. What makes you most proud about being a PGA Professional? Mentoring my fellow professionals and helping my students achieve their goals by assisting them with their master plan makes me proud. What golf facilities have you been employed at and in what capacity? • Aspen Golf Club - First Assistant • Ruffled Feathers Golf Club - First Assistant • Ken Venturi Golf Academy - Instructor • GOLFTEC, 25 Years - Coach, Manager and Regional Manager
Robert (Ty) Walker, PGA Regional Manager at GOLFTEC DTC
What do you feel is the most meaningful contribution to the game of golf you have made? In addition to sharing my passion for the game with my fellow professionals, taking 20+ handicaps to single digits has been meaningful to me. What hobbies do you have outside of golf? My hobbies include skiing, exploring Mother Nature, mountain biking, tennis, being my kids’ biggest fan, and always going the extra degree! If you could have a dream foursome, who would it be and why? My dream foursome includes my mother, a student, and someone better than me.

Rudy Castaneda, PGA
Head Professional - Indian Tree Golf Club Where did you grow up? I grew up in Arvada, Colorado, five minutes from Indian Tree GC! What was your first introduction to the game of golf? My friend’s dad next-door played golf. One day, we were looking for something to do and my friend said we should go play golf. We got his dad’s clubs, hopped on our bikes, road to Indian Tree and played the par 3 course. I made what I didn’t know at the time was a par on the last hole and I was hooked. Why did you choose to become a PGA Golf Professional? I started working at Indian Tree because I wanted to be around golf. I worked my way up the golf shop. Vic Kline was the PGA Head Professional and gave me my start. What makes you most proud about being a PGA Professional? Being part of the Colorado PGA Section, a leader in promoting the game of golf, is an honor.
Rudy Castaneda, PGA Head Professional at Indian Tree Golf Club

What do you feel is the most meaningful contribution to the game of golf you have made? Winning the Youth Player Development Award in 2015 meant the golf world to me! Feeling like a was a leader in growing the game was unbelievable. What hobbies do you have outside of golf? Sports. I have been a Denver Broncos season ticket holder for 30 years and am a big Colorado Avalanche fan. I also enjoy working in the yard and seeing my yard green. If you could have a dream foursome, who would it be and why? My dream foursome would be Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Tom Watson. But realistically it’s my three guys who play in Pro-Ams with me and win me a few dollars.

I think it is a culmination of several things. Eric Jensen, PGA Life Member Retired
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Monument, Colorado, at Woodmoor Country Club. What was your first introduction to the game of golf? I used to follow my grandpa and the club professional, Schott Davis PGA, around the golf course. I had a 7 iron they would let me hit when time permitted. My grandpa eventually bought me a starter set of Chi Chi Rodriguez junior clubs. Schott really took me under his wing and shaped not only my golf game as a child but also my future as a PGA Golf Professional. Why did you choose to become a PGA Golf Professional? I chose to become a PGA Professional because of the people! Such amazing people in the world of golf. What makes you most proud about being a PGA Professional? Thinking back to the number of people I have helped along the way makes me proud. Whether mentoring staff or helping with a school program, being a PGA Member enabled me to get in front of so many people and try to make a difference. What golf facilities have you been employed at and in what capacity? • Woodmoor CC - Assistant Professional • Denver CC - Assistant Professional • Pine Creek GC - Assistant Professional • Legacy Ridge GC - Assistant Professional • Twin Peaks GC - Head Professional • Ute Creek GC - Head Professional • Coal Creek GC - Director of Golf / General Manager • Western Golf Properties - Regional Director of Operations

What do you feel is the most meaningful contribution to the game of golf you have made? I always enjoyed growing the game for seniors and for families. I hope that everyone I worked with over the years loves the game as much as I do. What hobbies do you have outside of golf? I enjoy aviation, skeet shooting and fly fishing. If you could have a dream foursome, who would it be and why? My dream foursome would include my late grandfather, Gus Jensen, for obvious reasons; Vincent Van Gogh, for his ability to turn his tormented life into incredible beauty - not many have a gift like that; and Wilbur and Orville Wright, for the true passion to follow their dreams. Jensen enjoys skeet shooting.

Colorado PGA HOPE Ambassador Meet Joseph Robinson
U
nited States Army Retired Sergeant First Class Joseph Robinson is the Colorado PGA HOPE Ambassador and is excited for his role as an Ambassador. Robinson, a resident of Centennial, Colorado, completed a four-day PGA HOPE Ambassador program during the inaugural PGA HOPE National Golf and Wellness Week in late 2019, just before COVID derailed the golf plans of 2020. Robinson has been a participant in the Colorado PGA HOPE Programs since they started at Wellshire Golf Course by Kirk Mease, PGA. He completed the developmental six-week clinic offered to Veterans where he not only learned golf but also made new friends. Mease then nominated him for the Ambassador program, to which he had to apply and attend training upon acceptance. PGA HOPE Ambassadors received golf instruction at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, October 25-28, 2019.
Joseph Robinson went from participating in PGA HOPE Programs to being an Ambassador for Colorado PGA HOPE.
The Ambassador role is to be a liaison between the Section and serve to connect Veterans with the golf courses that host Colorado PGA HOPE clinics for them. The purpose of programming is to promote golf and overall wellness such as physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. Veterans who go through these clinics can meet other Veterans and develop friendships over the course of several weeks.
The friendships Robinson made with other Veterans, through Colorado PGA HOPE Programming, became some of his teammates in the Golden Age Games offered through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He wants to reiterate to Veterans that the HOPE programming clinics are a safe place and an opportunity to improve their golf game without ridicule or judgment. Everyone is learning. “Come out and think of the positives - what you can get out of the game and what you can give someone else.” In regards to the Colorado PGA HOPE Clinics offered to Veterans, Robinson commented on what helped him and may in turn help others. “I was able to listen and able to leave my troubles behind for that moment. To learn to have fun and not think of my problems. I saw there were others with problems, and it made me think, I want to do everything I can to help them overcome their problem. The opportunity to play golf, to get out and feel the breeze on your face, to hear the birds sing, to enjoy yourself and leave your troubles behind. That’s what got me through.”

PGA.Coach and The American Development Model Are you one of the more than 3,500 PGA Coaches to complete ADM Training?
H
opefully you are familiar with the PGA of America’s commitment to continued alignment with the American Development Model (ADM) for golf. This model was designed by sports scientists to help support a lifetime affinity to sports and to develop athletes to their greatest potential. To quote former Super Bowl Winning Coach Bill Cowher, “A good coach will show you how to play the game. A great coach will show you how to play for life.” PGA.Coach Training As it relates to the players that enter your programs across a wide variety of ages, it is important to understand the principles of the ADM and how they are applied at this level. Jack Nicklaus states, “Golf’s a game for a lifetime. Not everybody’s going to be a champion. It’s good to enjoy it, to keep physically fit, be in the outdoors and spend time with your friends. That’s what golf’s all about.” The ADM training available on PGA.Coach is a great place to get started. Upon completion of the training, you can access many new tools that can help you as a coach. PGA.Coach App Time is undoubtedly a PGA Coach’s most precious resource. Planning your activities and lessons ahead of time through the PGA.Coach app is a true time-saving life hack, but don’t take it from me. “PGA.Coach is a game changer! The app can help you become organized without the effort it would take to organize on your own. Whether you are a new Professional learning how to coach or a seasoned veteran who would like some new ideas, the PGA. Coach app can help you!” –– Grant Masson, PGA, Gateway Section Activity plans can be tailored to golfers of all ages and stages of development and a variety of programming. Need practice ideas for your PGA Jr. League team? Check! Looking for low-pressure practices for a group of adult beginners? Check! Structuring weeks of Drive, Chip & Putt clinics before your events? Check! There is even a very useful tool for putting a new student through an assessment designed to determine what developmental stage they are in. Keep checking back, as new features are being added all the time.

PGA.com Coach Profile Whether looking to generate new students or not, a Coach Profile is a great way to get your name out there as an expert in the game. Traffic to pga. com is steady all year long, but this week during the PGA Championship, a coach profile stands to generate thousands of impressions. During the PGA Championship, golf fans in your area who view the leaderboard on both PGA.com and PGAChampionship. com will see your name in the field. The PGA of America is committed to creating visibility and marketing value for you as PGA Coaches, and we hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity like Jason Witczak did last year: “Always wondered what it looked like to be on the leaderboard with these guys... pretty cool. Thanks for helping me get this done, and for helping me understand how valuable it could be.”
Thank you for your commitment to each player’s golf journey! If there is anything I can do to help you plan out your coaching journey with PGA.Coach, please let me know. Feel free to grab some time on my calendar and I would be happy to help you become an expert guide for a whole new generation of golfers. New and Returning Summer Interns to Colorado PGA Expanding our Interns to the Western Slope!
T
he Colorado PGA is very excited for the new opportunities that come with interns and their assistance to help run junior golf events, tournaments, and Section activities. This season we welcome Chloe Manchester who will be filling a new role in the Western Slope, Colby Geeker, an intern serving his first season, and Payton Canon and Kelsey Webster, two returning interns from last summer, . Managing the interns falls withing the purview of Samantha Crawford, Junior Golf Manager. “This year’s interns are excited to hit the ground running as a member of the Colorado PGA team,” says Crawford. “Each intern brings experience, dedication, motivation, and an in-depth knowledge of the game to the 2021 season. We are lucky to have them.” A recent graduate from Grand Canyon University, Manchester will serve her first internship with the Colorado PGA on the Western Slope. She brings with her a wide range of knowledge of golf as a player, caddie, caddie master, tournament and league coordinator, and experience in food and beverage. Manchester has an outgoing personality and a drive to work hard to promote the golf industry to the youth. She is excited to make connections with young golfers through events and make their experiences even better.
Chloe Manchester New Western Slope Intern
Geeker is currently a student in the University of Colorado Colorado Springs PGA Golf Management Program and brings golf knowledge, skills, and love for the game to his first internship. As a Retired US Army Veteran, Geeker’s training in leadership and commitment is something he looks forward to sharing with the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado team and JGAC players. He is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Colorado PGA and learn more about tournament operations, how to run successful tournaments, and to see the game of golf grow with so many young talented golfers. Returning for her second summer interning with the Colorado PGA, Canon is a student at Oregon Institute of Technology seeking a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Colby Geeker First-Year Intern Management-Administration. She grew up playing in JGAC tournaments and shares that experience with all young golfers. Canon is in her third year playing for OIT and has the knowledge of rules, etiquette, and skills of the game. She looks forward to sharing the inner workings of an internship with fellow interns and seeing all the junior golfers - especially the young female golfers! Webster looks forward to her third-year interning with the Colorado PGA. Currently, she plays golf for Payton Canon Second-Year Intern the University of Colorado, but will be transferring to continue her golf career at Oregon State University this fall. Webster is a great organizer and communicator and has learned to effectively interact with both parents and players, which is crucial in her role. Understanding the importance of timeliness and ensuring there isn’t one detail untouched, she wants to reassure parents that their kids are in good hands. Webster is extremely excited for this season, specifically looking forward to having more responsibilities in running tournaments. She hopes to form some meaningful relationships with the players and the parents this summer! Kelsey Webster Third-Year Intern
